Some little tidbits of July's MM update:

This is all subject to change and does not reflect all changes, you know the drill.

  • All gametypes in Premium Battle will use big team variants
  • Removing Hot Potato from Premium Battle
  • Slayer DMRs game variants will use the default vehicle set
  • Updated Grifball maps and gametypes
  • Team Objective gametypes will feature DMR/AR starts (except Classic and Pro)
  • Integrating 3 Flag, 2 Flag Slayer and Speedflag into Team Objective

Does this mean Flagstravaganza is being removed?
Correct, it was not intended to be a permanent addition to matchmaking, but to highlight our recent additions to CTF gametypes. Flagstravaganza will end on July 5th.

Didn't the entire studio get iPhones quite a while back? If so, it'd make sense that they would want to develop for iOS. I just don't get the exclusivity.

You know, this interesting. Bungie made Marathon 1 exclusively for Mac and then they were bought out by MS. Its interesting to see them going back to Mac all of a sudden. Fuck I loved marathon

I'm very excited about the aerospace reveal. I wonder when we can expect it.

Going back to Mac? I don't think I would venture that far into those woods quite yet. Apple store was clearly the best way to distribute it.

The addition of global DMR starts to Team Objective is disappointing and will lead to even less population than the playlist already had. TO got shat up by essentially becoming Throwback in the last Halo 3 playlist update of note, and just like then I'm not going to play in TO post-update.

It would have been fine if there were just optional DMR variants, but the people that want 100% DMR start Objective are already playing MLG.

Marathon 2: Durandal for iOS, and Windows Phone 7 confirmed.

I didn't mean going back to mac as their sole system. Its just that the Bungie app and the Marathon port are exclusive to IOS...

No, I can't stand playing in the MLG playlist, and I can't stand being sprayed by people holding down the trigger while I'm trying to outmaneuver them. That update is perfect for me and will make me actually want to play it since, I loved speedflag and 3flag.

3 Flag at least seems interesting on the surface (though I haven't played it). I can't really get behind either of the others, especially speedflag, unless Benny Hill plays behind every match. I looked to Objective to get the core experience, but I guess that's over, because people will almost certainly just start voting for the new stuff now.

Also, terrible terrible Hot Potato not removed from Objective too. Maybe next month. Or the month after that. Forget the Sonic Cycle, it's the Halo Playlist Cycle for me.

it's really fun. it's essentially Quidditch in Halo: each kill is a point, but cap the flag and you get 50 points.
 
Super sad I couldn't get in on the swag bags.  My bungie pen is my most prized collection.  Frankly I wish they made more pens and made them available on te marketplace... *cough* HINT

Anyone with a silver account want to play Halo this weekend? My awesome roommate (who lets me mooch his Halo/Fallout DLC when he's out) gave me a small stack of 48 hour trials.

People who want Objective DMR starts already play MLG? Ehhhh I don't know if I buy that. MLG has a healthy dose of slayer, no radar and the map selection is wildly different. I know that if I play non MLG playlists with GAF, I won't mind playing Objective as much any more.

Edit: Theyre just so different. MLG isn't just about DMR starts and objective gametypes.

Yeah, well, I guess it doesn't ultimately matter because I'll actually stop playing playlists I don't like instead of certain people that complain about a list and then keep going into it.

I said I'd give Social Throwback a chance in H3 and stopped playing it. You won't find a single game from Social Objective in Halo 3 from me after that post. I don't feel I need to give it a chance again, because BR Start Objective is already available in BTB and MLG. I already know how it plays.

Stockpile's problem was that it was featured almost exclusively on asymmetric maps, giving one team a wildly advantageous position (low capture points on both Powerhouse and Sword Base). If that was fixed, I'd probably be fine with it.

Yeah, we were almost always Red team on Stockpile Sword Base, lol.

Don't add any new maps, but add fringe gametypes. Add them not only after a month earlier where you removed such said modes like Headhunter and Stockpile. This news plus the fact they still won't have Multi-Bomb. Who ran Halo 2 again?

Why are easily managed gametypes/map combos like One Bomb in Reflection never get included in. Don't need that anyway, speedflag! No wonder the playlist never gets taken seriously.

They weren't even necessarily needed except on large maps. Tempest used them for CTF and they had it on Boardwalk 3 Plots, too. Hemorrhage got axed because of players getting hit from mid and long range. No changes to that, so they removed it. Now they're committedly adding all DMR starts a month later. Still the same maps, so it makes no difference to me.

Looks like the Bungie swag bags say "TRU7H.CARNAGE.SWAG" on the front. Nice touch.
 
Premium battle will be not more for me. Big team objective gametypes. Instant arm the bomb for days.

Imagine if you got a bomb game on Anchor 9, instant arm. That would be fun...

Premium Slayer is a joke as well. All the large maps are in there, for a 5v5 slayer playlist, and of course they are voted for everytime. Who doesn't want to play 5v5 slayer on Highlands, you'll only see a player every four minutes!

The Premium playlists were a good idea, but the exection was poor.

Great to see DMR's in Objective though, evade still needs to get out.

Premium Battle had instant arm already before. It's the sole reason I cringe at wanting to play it. BTB adding it was a kick in the balls.

Might as well tell Jeremiah to give the flag carrier 200% damage and 150% speed. He'll get his much wanted flag scores.

I like FyreWulff's resource objective game type. Along those lines, I wish Bungie had incorporated Forge with hard game type rules. I'd construct the following:

  • Each team has one randomly selected player spawn as a Monitor.
  • The Monitor has a small (adjustable via game options) initial budget with which to spawn weapons and vehicles.
  • Additional funds are added to the Monitor's budget as objectives are met. These could be kills ($5 per kill), CTF caps ($25 per cap) or increment the budget in phases as with Invasion slayer ($100 in budget when 25 kills are reached).
  • Killing a Monitor yields the killing team a budget bonus (configurable). The Monitor respawns as another player on the team.
  • Options to restrict what weapons and vehicles could be spawned would be essential.

No idea what it would be called, but it was one of the big ticket items I was hoping to see in Reach's Forge mode.

It would also be the easiest game type in history to grief. "Our Monitor is giving all our guns to the other team!"

Edit: and Dax would troll everyone by spawning Assault Rifles everywhere.

My friends and I used to do something similar to this back in Halo 3. Good times, indeed. (Though we didn't think to reward players for objectives. Hah!)

I was excited for MAG on the PS3 because one person from each team was the general who would order the troops around. I'd love to see that mechanic mixed in with the on-the-fly vehicle orders of Mercenaries/The Outfit.

Also, I'm so mad I missed the grab bags. :^(

It had instant arm for the Big Team maps. If you happened to get a bomb game on a 4v4 map (say Anchor 9), it was the 4v4 rules. In july they will all be big team bomb rules though. At least that's how I interpreted it.

Stockpile needs small symmetric maps to be fun and which are not plentiful in the maps on the disc. It just doesn't work well on Powerhouse or Swordbase which seemed to be the common maps for it.

I was unaware. Played Highlands and Hemorrhage in Premium Battle, chose Assault, and the horrifying glimpse of instant arm reared its ugly head. smh

Yeah what ever happened to Halo 2, where all the objective gametypes were set up well straight out of the box?

rocket race is fucking awesome though!
