Halo: Reach |OT4| This Thread is Not Your Grave, But You Are Welcome In It

Amazed with the BTB changes, but the issue is still probably going to be that players don't know how to vote. It will be interesting to see what the 5 community maps are. I'm still going to be disappointed that I won't get to play DLC maps in the playlist though.

More tidbit of info on BTB update:
I notice he still has Elite Slayer and BTB Snipers.

Jeremiah, do your dirty work and make sure Assault and CTF show up every single voting phase.

Played a few BTB games last night and saw CTF show up once in four stages, and it was 1-CTF at Hemorrhage.

After three hours in the lab, no luck on getting a useable HD copy of my video.

My sentiments exactly. (NSFW language)

Is the file 1280x720? It should definitely give you HD option after uploading if so. Pretty much my only guess you capped it in 720p but after editing it didn't get rendered in the same...?

Ughhh they plan on adding the crap community BTB maps to the real BTB playlist? What the hells the point of the Community BTB playlist then?

Good you got it...Yea editing in program doesn't actually effect/change any video until rendering so you should be able to freely change project settings in modern editing programs. As long as the source is the necessary quality.

There's a snipers playlist so someone explain to me why the hell Sniper shows up in Defiant/Noble and this playlist? Seriously. Why?

BTB Elite Slayer has to be the worst. It sucks even more than it does on multi team.

Agreed Snipes in other playlists was from the medieval times when there was yet to be a dedicated playlist. Which was a dumb move in the first place since Snipes is a Halo staple. Should completely be removed from every other playlist.

My teacher failed to mention that when I start my project, the overall settings shouldn't be on default. Default for Final Cut Pro is 480p.

Deleting my preferences won't work. My project is hardwired to 480p. I tried converting it to 780p, but only half of the video gets rendered, and my captions and framerate are all jumpy.

I guess I'll grab a clean copy of the 480p version and call it a day.

EDIT: WHAT THE F***ING F***? I just went to grab a 480p version, and it came out in 720p. Mind = blown. Moral of the story: Don't spend four hours trying. Spend two minutes not giving a damn.

I had one of the most vivid and most weirdest dreams I've ever had and yes, it's Halo related.

So the dream is that I'm casually walking near a gas station when a man slowly creeps up behind me and lightly hits my back with his elbow, I turn to my right to see that that man was Frank and me turning to the right to look at him allowed a black SUV to pull up to my left which had David Ellis and other 343 folks in said SUV and they grab me and quickly pull me into the SUV and tell me we're heading to a mall to show me "something unreal".

When we end up in the parking lot and are walking in the mall to a specific spot, all these 343 folks are escorting me there as if I were the President and David Ellis says to me, "I have a feeling we'll be seeing you in June at E3 because of what we're about to show you".

They find a table they need to get things started but that table is taken up by a bunch of charity members selling CDs so they tell me to sit down with them and pull one CD away from them close to me. This causes the charity members to freak out thinking I'm a shoplifter so they pack their stuff and head to another part of the mall. This was their plan in order to have that table.

Now we have the table and every 343 member (around 15 of them, I'd say) are given instructions by David Ellis to build something. They all start building what looks like a TV inside a shelf for the TV to rest on while I sit there watching them.

When the TV is done being built, David Ellis sets it on the ground, starts playing a video and then tells me, "I'll be expecting a call from you soon" as he, Frank and everyone else decide to leave.

A video starts playing and it's a teaser trailer for 343's first Halo project. The Spartans look like a mix between your typical Spartan II and TF2 characters. The end of this trailer is what freaked me out the most.

The end consisted of an evil Master Chief hijacking a UNSC Tank and constantly bashing it in the back. The Chief turns around and says "I want revenge" and flies away on the streets he's on because he has drone wings while his neck and abdomen are completely gone/empty, the only thing holding his whole body together is his green spine.

The last piece of text in this trailer also says "Backwards compatible with Original Xbox Live". I freak out after having seen the next Halo before anyone else in the public and call David Ellis and start asking him so questions and he says "Can't answer any, it's too close to press-time (E3), we'll see you there, though"

Dream ends.

Does anyone here at GAF like Sword Base? I don't get it, it gets voted for every time it comes up and I just don't get it. I think it is without question one of the worst maps in any Halo game, but obviously there are some people out there that like it, it gets played all the time.

Every time I go into team slayer, I play Sword Base atleast 1/5 times. I don't get it either. I think it's one of the worst maps in Reach, slightly better then Pinnacle but only a bit.

The gameplay is always the same, get the shotgun and sword and camp at yellow lift. If the teams are a little bit balanced, the positions will switch 2 or 3 times in one match. It's just assoulting this smal part of the map.
When I look at my heathmap(http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/Heatmaps.aspx?player=Robbert014) , I can see exactly where the yellow lift area is, the other side of the map has nearly no colour at all.

I simply can't grasp the concept that people enjoy playing on Sword basea and I hope it gets the same treatment in Arena as pinnacle got.

Yep, here is the global heatmap. Virtually all of the combat takes place at yellow lift, that high bridge, and the room on the other side of that bridge.

Its a great jetpack map. Most of the time the enemy team holes up in one area (and my team opposes them in highly explosive stalemates) which makes flanking pretty worthwhile.

Jetpacks are fun.

When I finish it! :lol

I spent most of yesterday and today working on the new version of Crossroads. Geometry is about 95% done. I want to get it ready for customs tomorrow, so that's my focus for the weekend. Once that is done, I'm writing another article for FUD, but that will just take a couple of days. Then, I'll finish up the review. Honest.

I like the way it looks, feels and I like the gameplay In objective modes. I think its a nice change of flow from the other maps. I just like multi-leveled maps I guess.

Yes, its a little campy, but there's multiple ways to flush people out on most of the map.

Just like Construct's heat map will solidify mostly around purple lifts and the gold lift.

But the difference with Construct is that the red is all around the map, not just one side. This is ofcourse due the map being mostly symetrical.

I don't think there is a map in Halo 3 which you can really compare with Sword Base.
I think Construct is pretty similair to Reflection and Countdown.

You can't compare exact heat maps because Construct has been around for 40+ months, meanwhile Swordbase has only been around 7 months. Of course it paths it that way.

You can play it 50 times (Construct), and it'll always result in players camping the lifts and most of the combat taking place on that exact level.

LOL.... from the Gaming Thread "Generally accepted things in gaming that baffle you"

My baffling thing that I wrote was...

"Why the fuck people vote for Sword Base in Halo Reach baffles me. That level totally sucks, and people are nuts for picking that over the other choices.

I mean when you have say Zealot or Powerhouse or Reflection or Countdown or well yeah any map not named Sword Base comes up I don't see how you could ever vote for that shit level."

I hate it for the same reason as stated above. Because of the Reach design, and the general design of those type of lifts in Reach it ends up being camp fest in the room at the top of the yellow lift. I couldn't tell you a match this week in which it wasn't like this on that map.

Plus the fact that it's ALWAYS picked when I play Team Slayer. Ugh... I wish that map had never been born... LOL

Do you just like it for objective gametypes? I can agree that it plays some objective games decently, but slayer is an abomination.

Looking forward to hearing about the May update in the weekly update.

Also in general one of the reasons I've really disliked the maps from both 360 Halo games is the lift system. Some of the floaty lifts are okay, but the lifts that just shoot you quick to a certain spot creates camp city IMO.

Halo 1 and 2 maps didn't really have this going on so I liked a larger share of the maps.

It's funny, because I think Ellis mentioned on twitter that 343 had an offsite work day...

So it's just Domino dropping a big hint.
Please no!

I like the multiple ways you can get around the map. You have a few lifts and a walkway connecting both buildings. It's easy to jump from one place to another and walk on ledges to get around. It just feels like combat flows really well on that map. It doesn't feel very tight. I don't even use jetpack on there or anywhere else. I use invis 99% of the time unless I'm stuck playing something where invis is not available so it's not like I fly to get around. It's just so easy to get around it. I also like the look of it. I like how there are a lot of transparent windows so you can see where people are in the other areas.

I'm not sure what's the point of posting the heatmap. I bet you could look at most of the maps in any Halo game and see the same thing. There are certain spots were people will either camp or where people will most likely run into each other because either the objectives send them there, they spawn nearby there, or stuff like the lifts on the map put them there.

It's the ONLY type of lift like that on the map though, and there is only one way into the room besides the lift. Plus that way is from the front and the side. Plus I don't see how combat flows really well on that map. The whole point of the heat signatures is that the combat doesn't flow. Everyone just either camps in that room or are in the hallway right outside.

Granted I've admitted before I don't like maps with the lifts that auto shoot you places super fast as oppose to the floaty lifts you can maneuver on. Still Sword Base is even worse because at least other maps have multiple ways into the room with the lift. Someone mentioned Construct before above, and the two rooms on either side or the big area in the back have more than one way in besides the lift. Sword base has one small door way which makes it sword + shotty camp heaven.
