Halo: Reach |OT6| There Are Those Who Said This Day Would Never Come

After tonight, I think I'm officially shelving this game until the beta hoppers at the earliest. :p
I have been wallowing in Deus Ex and not been tempted to toss Reach in at all. I do plan to do the Campaign run tomorrow, but that aside, my next MP will be in the Beta hopper.

I found Deus Ex absolutely amazing until about 2/3rds through the game. Then it became a bit of a chore with not much more to offer. As the game reached it's climax I was expecting to get blown away - but I ended up sprinting* through the game just to finish it before it lost my attention entirely and went into the backlog.

*literally sprinting - I spent my praxis points on sprint abilities just to get through the game quickly.

Now I'm hooked on Reach all over again. Also, looking forward to the TU for bloom fixes - but I still love the game bloom and all.

I'm sort of the opposite with it. I hated the first couple hours, and really started liking it only after I upgraded several abilities and sunk into the first hub area. Now I'm loving it more than before; I keep trying new approaches, and they keep working. The last few areas have had some incredible highlights.

Video Game journalists are pretty awful at Video Games. That one Kyle
j
dude was decent (first day on the job, makes sense), but they were all pretty clueless. I like the one guy trying to figure out why he couldn't throw a grenade, in spite of the fact that he didn't spawn with grenades.

At least they had the sense to switch to a Hang em High FFA. I was scared they were going to do the 3 morons vs 1 okay player Blood Gulch match the whole time.

Why I stopped playing this game....it's all coming back to me -_-

I swore I'd never play this game again (been playing Halo 3 in the meantime) because armor lock pissed me off so much but I saw that there was a new Map Pack (plus additional achievements) so I hopped back into it. I was playing a bunch of games today and none of them had armor lock as an option at the loadout screen. I honestly thought that it was removed from the game entirely. It was just a stroke of temporary luck and I saw the option in the next few games. Then I proceeded to my latest match:

When I saw the majority of the vote go for sword base, I nearly turned off the Xbox. From my experience, nothing good ever comes from that map; I fucking KNEW what I was in for. Seeing the eagerness and all those votes for that map was foreshadowing my grief.

And of course, just for me, the scenario was set up perfectly: 2 of my teammates quit and the opposing team was parading around in that armor lock shit, teabagging every last one of their kills.

*skips over the familiar armor lock anecdotes*

It literally came down to the wire. It was somewhere around 10 seconds left and after wiping out most of their team, I was killed......and then spawned right in front of the other team @_@ It was a weird angle that gave them complete advantage so of course I was killed, but thank God we were up by 2. As I respawned with 5 seconds left, I shouted out each remaining second in a pathetic effort to speed up the countdown.

We won by 1 kill. Never have I been so aggravated after a win -_-

I understand the equalizing element that armor lock provides to new players (or am I off base?) but holy shit...for me, it RUINS the game. If you corner a person using armor lock and their teammates aren't around to save them, they are fucked. But if they are around, YOU are fucked.

/rant

Also, is it me or is melee doing SIGNIFICANTLY less damage these days?

Why are you doing this? Why? According to your experience you played TeamSlayer? Why? Why do you play this shitty playlist? Squad Slayer and Team Objective don't have amour lock anymore. And the new TU will change armour lock.

I don't get the issue. You don't like Armor Lock, so why join a playlist that is heavily devolved into it? A high array of community maps and Armor Lock is distinctly Team Slayer. In fact, they should have just swiped out all regular maps and just made them community variants, and named it Community Slayer with just Sprint, Jetpack, and Hologram. But alas.

If you're in that team based slayer mood, join Team Arena. Join Squad Slayer. They are your slayer modes without AL which is the major lead of your frustrations.

Also, I couldn't watch much of that GI Halo replay. Not simply because they're terrible, but the commentary was also unbearable.

I fixed that, didn't know the GAF inbox limit was so small. 50 across both inbox and sentbox? Really?

I think that changes after you become a full member.

Even nicer considering all the crap he gets here. He's an awesome dude and one I admire. Same goes for all you code/beta key/F&F invite givers out there. It's heart warming indeed.

Yeah while I may never agree with Fyrewulff on opinions about Halo, hes still a good guy. I love the fact I can jump on and play the game with him and have a laugh despite obviously wanting different things out of the game.

I have stopped caring about if I win or lose now. I honestly dont know why you would put yourself through the stress of winning when a match is more bullshit than skill.

I still want to win my games and I always try do so too. But that's why I mainly play arena, squad slayer or Premium battle. I feek like those playlists are the only ones I can get some good matches in.

I skipped over the campaign part and looked at the MP. Interesting to watch and compare to later Halo games.

Poop or be pooped on sir.

It wasn't really anything to do with wins or losses. I think we won all of them except a game of TO where our teammate quit out and a couple of Arena matches. The TO game was against 3 (!!!) Inheritors and a Forerunner, 2 Flag Slayer, they just killed us instead of going for the flag once our teammate quit out, lol. Where were Stephen and N00bs to save me? I will say one thing about that game, at like 10:00 into the match there were already more than 2 snipers in play, hilarious to me that something like that still isn't fixed.

More to do with the game itself, just mediocre in its current state, just been playing it because I don't have any other options, and now I have other options hitting quite soon & frequently. :p

Oh man that was hard to watch. I made it 10 mins in though. And yup. From what I read one time Brute Force devs actually got some advice and technical help from Bungie during development when it was running behind schedule.

EGM Interview said:
EGM: We noticed you thank some guys from Halo-developer Bungie in Brute Force's credits. How were they involved in the game?

Erin Roberts: They helped in a couple of ways. One was on our control methodology. We really liked the way the controls worked in Halo. A lot of people know these controls well, so why bother coming up with a new scheme for this game? They also helped with combat targeting. Halo has a really nice use of the reticule. Basically, when the reticule goes over an enemy, there's a sort of magnetism and friction. It slows down slightly and tries to stay with the enemy. It makes players feel like they're better at shooting and killing the bad guys

I'm still amazed 2 Flag Slayer got put into an Objective playlist.

I think I am ready to do the same. I've had a lot of fun the past few months because I played with friends and GAF but rarely played on my own. I played by myself the last few days and got so infuriated. I'll take a break until the game type drops then til the hoppers I think. We'll see if I hold to it. heh

Anyone else having problems with the Secondapps iPhone app? I just posted in its thread about my issues.

Yep, the guests have invaded the Squad Slayer playlist.

Fuck this shit.

Can we have a guest-less playlist? Thanks.
Don't worry, when the race playlist comes out, the guest will come in groves.
