Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Ironsights make no sense in a game where you can run and jump around freely.
Someone's going to bring up Borderlands

The low grav and extreme heights that you jumped was because of The halo rings low gravity right. They kept this in the multiplayer because it was fun for Halo1-3.

They could always change it.

It'd be funny if iron sights was in Reach just to see all the Bungie fanboys change their 'opinion' of iron sight. Sheep.

Personally I'd love to see iron sight in Reach.
Yeah, totally, bro. Imagine how awesome the iron sights on the needler would be.

Iron sights work great for military/realistic shooters. Not necessarily so with games like Halo, UT, TF2, and Quake.

No. Master Chief can jump that high because of the armor. Also, jumping is such a high part of the game that they took off fall damage. I wouldn't mind Iron sights though if there was an All ODST mode.

Which is why you still jumped extreme heights on Earth, and inside ships and everything, right?

Come on. Just because it's their "last" Halo game, doesn't mean they're going to completely change all the gameplay elements, just to cater to the Call of Duty/"realistic" shooter fans. It's a Bungie-made Halo game. It's going to looks, sound, feel, and play like Halo games always have.

All I want is Halo 3 MP with 2xAA. Everything else is just Bungie's benevolence. Now, if the image quality is the same or worse as Halo 3... :(

I think as far as multiplayer goes, yeah, they're going to stick with what they know and what Halo fans have grown accustomed to over the years. But as for Campaign, however, I think with the introduction of a Squad system (whether or not it's controllable), it will shake things up a bit.

I meant "play like", as in high jumping, familiar controls and weapons, etc.

And I agree with what you said about the squad system.

I'm still debating whether I will see it as soon as it's posted online somewhere in bad quality, or if I will wait for the direct feed HD version. Any idea on how long it will take for it to be posted in HD on Xbox Live or Bnet??

edit: Speaking of Bnet, it just came to my mind, that when Buck says "link up with the bee-net" in ODST, it's maybe a nod to Bungie.net.

"Bee-net" is slang for "battle-net," which is a general term for a wartime communications network. We heard it in Halo 1 a few times, i.e. on the second level as you pass into the first tunnel: "I've hacked into the Covenant battle-net. They're actually broadcasting tactical data on unencrypted channels! We should show them who they're dealing with."

Pretty sure he's just checking his K/D ratio.

Iron sights would drastically change the way halo is played. It would be virtually impossible to jump around and shoot at the same time. It would also slow gameplay down way to much. I know we all want something new for the gameplay but iron sights are not the answer.

I would welcome a class selection mechanic but if it does not happen then I would still be happy.

The more I think about it, the more I don't want a class based Halo game, Halo has it's own unique style that should be refined, not drastically changed.

This. I wanna download this on my 360 in HD and listen with my headphones.

Maybe not enough people know. We might need to re-release the Halo 3/ODST nag message.

You can only say so much when you know absolutely nothing about the game.

Yep, 700+ posts about a snippet of non-gameplay not yet shown is a great low hype indicator. Bungie should be taking note.

Lets introduce a side-stepping feature in Street Fighter V!
There should be a first person mode in Uncharted 3!
A Demon Souls sequel should be a full blown MMO!
Gran Turismo 5 should have Wipeout-style hover vehicles!
The Next Zelda should have a futuristic setting!

What the fuck is up with everyone trying to make games into something they're not? Ironsights...in Halo? Are you fucking serious? And what does having an ironsight do that a zoom mode doesn't? It becomes more slower, more accurate, and lessens your field of view. There you go.

I think the problem with Halo related threads is not the amount of posts but the amount of unique posters. And I think it's safe to say that this thread is just full of the Halo 3 thread posters which were the same posters in the ODST thread. A handful of guys that just post a fuck load about everything from Halo to their favourite food. I swear, the Halo threads here are like a forum in itself.

Point being that 700+ posts in this thread mean shit. There really isn't much hype outside of the usual Halo thread suspects.

Aww, you say that as if it's a bad thing.

A 10k post thread about Demon Souls or some other game GAF gets excited for doesn't necessarily mean most people give a shit about it. GAF as a whole is pretty down on Halo, there's the core that loves the series and a few that pop in from time to time but most GAFers don't like Halo or don't feel bothered to post about it.

Despite whatever numbers a GAF thread gets, it'd be pretty silly to say the Reach trailer isn't one of, if not, the most anticipated part of the VGAs.

You have some weird expectations.

This is just a hype thread for speculating (brings in the regulars) and for the eventual reveal (hasn't happened yet).

When actual gameplay details surface, multiplayer reveal and the beta you'll see a lot more varied posters. Right now, this is just a teaser of the 2nd proper Halo game this generation. Additionally, Bungie and Microsoft have been quiet on the marketing front as yet. No cryptic clues, no viral marketing, nothing. People have already seen Halo this gen, we're now waiting to see to see how they step up the game.

Come the beta and official thread time, I dare you to come back and start bitching about the lack of hype, after the hype engines have been in full gear, not now when we're just waiting for the green light.

Dax tried to calm the hype down in the Uncharted 2 thread a few days before launch. I wouldn't recommended following in his brave footsteps.

I realize some of you posters feel compelled to back the other out of some Halo fan loyality thing, but I don't see how your point relates to mine. I gave a rebuttle to Dani's insinuation that a 700+ post thread is an indicator of hype for Reach. I argue that on a forum like GAF, it's meaningless.

Of course a lot of people are anticipating the trailer. Many want to see it fail so that they can gloat with KZ 2 and Uncharted 2 gifs. Some already made up their minds about preordering Reach before they even saw the leaked screen shots.

Hype generally refers only to positive antitipcation, of which I am seeing very little.

First of all, I'm not trying to calm the hype down at all. I just thought your post about 700+ threads wasn't a good means to measure the hype at all. You really would be lying to yourself if you said that this thread isn't mostly filled with the same posters that fill up the other Halo threads; 15 to 20 odd guys.

Secondly, Nostradamus, I'm not dealing in predictions nor am I betting you anything about what happens after the trailer. Will there be more to talk about when gameplay details are revealed? Of course. Your original point however, as you have clearly forgotten, was about the current hype level.

:lol :lol :lol

Were you around for the Halo 2 launch? 80% of this board thought it was going to bomb and there was supposedly no hype.. yeah.. we know how that turned out. As far as unique users go.. we have seen less of Reach then any other halo game this close to launch. So give it time. I say after January if there isnt some serious hype for the beta and then eventual release then id worry.

Just because GAF is hyped for something doesnt mean shit in retail hype/numbers.. and just because GAF is not hyped for something means shit too.

Meh, there's nothing much to talk about at the moment. I read the threads every now and then but why post if it's not going to contribute to the discussion? Every one is expecting a class based Halo game ever since the first teaser trailer.

Once more official information is available, you'll see more people jumping in. Right now, I'd rather spend all my free time playing Dragon Age.

I'm so glad it's like that. We're HaloGAF, we gotta stick together lol. I hate new Halo threads. The first few pages are always shit on by GAF and then it dwindles down to HaloGAF with some real discussion and not some douchers talking about Uncharted 2's graphics.

And by real discussion, I mean BR vs AR
BR
, bitching about Halo 3, Shishka hating
<3
and general hating on the game we love so god damn much :D

Yeah, except for the fact that you're trying to defeat Dani's point when he in fact was responding to someone that was SPECIFICALLY talking about this thread.

And as a response to this, its okay to note that it is a 700+ thread and that even though GAF has more Halo haters than fans, the overall anticipation for Reach is really building up.

Like Ram said, it's hard to be super excited for the game when we don't know anything about it.

I'm excited as hell to finally find out what the game looks like come Saturday, but I'm more nervous than excited since I want Reach to look SO good. I want it to be on bar with Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, Gears of War 2, you name it, but at the same time I know I'm going to be utterly disappointed.

But at the same time I have that small shred of hope that I'll be right, but I know I actually won't.

We need moar hype.

So you know you will be dissapointed and yet still have a small shred of hope?

Like I said .. Wont matter what the game ends up being or doing or even if it doesnt look that great.. after Saturday.. everyone will be jizzing their pants.. [including you]

I'm not going to be disappointed with the visuals of Reach when we finally find out. All I'm saying is that I know the false assumptions that are going through my head such as "Reach will be the best looking game evar omfg" are going to be shut down pretty badly.

Whatever Reach ends up looking like, I'm sure it's going to be fantastic. :)

Lord knows it wasn't Halo 3's visuals that made me play over 10,000 MP sessions.
