In social teams will often be lopsided in one way or the other. I never go in alone so it's almost always in my favor. I think MM does a good job creating close games for ranked matches though alts can ruin that sometimes. Hope Reach has a lot of cumulative rewards to give players incentives to stick to one account.

Aside from maybe a stripe of a color of our choosing, I very much doubt weapons will be customizeable. This is Halo, not CoD. Don't get your hopes up, folks.

Weapons are not suggested in the Edge article, just armor. There was a very specific comment of the impact on fairness is people were to start with different powers / weapons.

Also (NPD thread related), Bungie does not think of Reach as Halo 4.


I wonder how the scaling of battles will work out though. The sandbox will apparantly be larger this time (don't go expecting Crysis size thought), with battles in the background, that scale as the player approaches.

I get the strange feeling I've heard this before though. Maybe for Resistance or Halo 3?
 
Side note, I would be very surprised if Cpt. Keyes doesn't make an appearance in the main game. I'd say it's around 100% he'll be in the epilogue as the PoA arrives at Halo, but I wonder if he'll be in the main storyline.

The "Assists" statistic needs some transparency. I just spent a whole game getting the other team down to 1 shot and I wound up with 4 assists.

As much as I've been DYING for the return of the original pistol.

I'm cautious.

Because (and I'm taking my Halo CE rose coloured glasses off right now), the Halo 3 pistol, and the Halo 1 pistol FEEL pretty much identical.

There's two BIG differences though:

1) The Halo 1 pistol has a scope

2) The Halo 1 pistol is powerful as fuck and the ULTIMATE balancer. I don't give a fuck what any of you say. By being so unbalanced, it MADE it balanced. The pistol was basically the permanent second weapon. It could get you out of ANY situation. Being sniped? Pistol could take them out. Shotgun showdown with no shotgun? Pistol could handle it.

If the Reach pistol isn't scoped, and it isn't powerful as all get out, then it ain't the Halo 1 pistol.

Pretty sure that Sage's beard wants us to explore other areas of the sandbox outside of the pistol, or the Deemer for that matter. I felt that for the moss at part, almost every weapon had a place in the sandbox. I'd like to see those roles brought out more, so that you can always know what is the ideal weapon for a situation. For that, though, the effective range of the AR needs to be increased to give short range weapons a shot.

Honestly, as unbalanced as it was, the CE pistol is so much fun. I'm glad that it sounds like it will live a second life in the DMR. Just sad it had to come at the expense of the BR. Not that sad though.

Watching the stream of CE made me realise how much more fun it was than the other campaigns. What stands out is the pistol, the AR hitting what I aim at and doing decent damage and the Elites. Now, apart from the AR which we are yet to get real details on, Reach will be the first time these things are all reunited.

the odst pistol was pretty much porfect (for campaign/firefight at least)
not as powerful as the ce pistol, but 4x zoom, perfect for quick headshots
and yes, the pistol WAS overpowered in ce
it wouldve been game breaking enough if it would've been a rifle, but a pistol that powerful additionally seemed extremely silly, too

But it'd be rock paper scissors that occurs fast, so you gotta plan ahead or get a guy to back you up. I'm not saying all medium weapons turn to shit in short, or all longs become useless except at 200 metres out, but I envision a game where given the amount and type on enemy, as well as your equipment and environment, really reward using certain weapons over others, or certain tactics with certain weapons (Example: throw a grenade to weaken dudes at medium-short range, finish with a headshot). Halo has always done this well, but it can still be done better.

Gonna have to stop you right there. Weak pistol w/ slow rate of fire =/= Strong pistol w/ higher rate of fire and 2x scope. They're only similar to each other because of the 3D model and the fact they both fire bullets like human guns tend to do.

Permanent second weapon??? How much CE did you play? It was the permanent first weapon because you could three shot people. Amazing, hang em high just being able to lob grenades into spawns and then one shot people. Perfect. :D

Edit: I also miss the grenades of CE, frags sound so powerful.
 
Halo CE explosion chains were off the heezy.

Hey remember someone made a comment that there will be no more pink neeldes? well in one of the pics theres an enemy shooting a needler and you can see a pink needle. Does that mean they have changed in since the pics were taken?

Eh, I don't remember the AR in CE playing any differently than it does in 3. Takes just as long to take down a shielded opponent and the only difference is it shoots twice as many bullets in the same amount of time. The sound it makes it much better which may fool people into thinking it was more powerful. I don't remember ever holding onto the AR in either campaign or MP and going back to CE not too long ago only reminded me why.

PP + pistol was/is the only way to go.

I did list the differences right below man. I mentioned the scope and the power.

It's the rate of fire that felt similar to me. The Halo 3 one is a little slower, but not that much.

Yeah, in Multi, the pistol was all I used. The Hang Em High fights were fucking amazing with the pistol. Sniping from across the map, taking out the guy stupid enough to go for the shotgun under the shelter :lol

Even in single player pistol was more than a second for me. Had friends we used to play all the way on Legendary only using a pistol. Good times. :D

The Halo 1 AR has a shorter range when the trigger is held down than the Halo 3 version, but is pretty similar up close to the Halo 3's, I think. The Halo 1 version was just so much fun to use because the feedback loop was so much more satisfying; it felt crazy powerful, even when it wasn't. I used it in so many inappropriate situations just for the fun of firing it off into a pack of guys and watching them dance.

I might have to do a Halo 1 play through soon. I tried early last year and couldn't get through it; the game just didn't age well with me at all. I saw too many holes in the encounter and mission design, and fizzled out around 343 Guilty Spark.

IMO a play-through of CE can stop at 343. Everything else is just alright.

No idea how you can't love every moment leading up to that level though. Still plays like a champ.
