Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Good catch! I completely forgot about that! The AR in the leaked screenshot has 32 bullets, when the AR more recently featured can only carry a maximum of 28 bullets.

This hints heavily at customization.

If Bungie can make changes, so can we....

...right?

Ammo counts across various pre-alpha builds, where they have admitted to be heavily tweaking the sandbox at the moment, is even reliable? :lol Sure.

It may be a point in favour of weapon customisation (which I doubt, severely) but hardly hints heavily towards it.

I am fervently against the idea of weapon customisation, one of Halo's underlying elements is being able to tactically assess the opponents assets and plan your next move accordingly. Only have an AR but are being pinged by Sniper rounds, try and find cover and gain ground on your opponent. If Custom weapons were brought into the fray then this would be lost, you may think you have the advantage in a situation, only to be destroyed by some armour piercing rounds, or a grenade launcher attachment. To me, that arbitrary style of weapon balancing isn't a feature that Halo should borrow, and is one of the reasons I feel equipment really didn't work well with the Halo sandbox in multiplayer, because you never had a visual indication of your opponents equipment and thus usually felt cheated when they would pop a regenerator and kill you. This also has me skeptical about the armour abilities if they make the transition over to multiplayer.

And as much as I enjoyed OONSK fiasco, it's starting to feel a tad over-baked now.

Welcome to HaloGAF, where people freak out over normal pre-alpha tweaking, wildly speculate that a glitch is actually a new feature, and spend the rest of the time engaged in willful pareidolia and endlessly cycling AR/BR wars.

Or in other words, speculate. And there is no way that reticule was a glitch. It was posted on BNet after it was posted elsewhere, if it wasn't representative of the game then it wouldn't have been made publicly available. It's not as if Bungie would not know their one gameplay screenshot contained a major visual glitch, come on.

I'm concerned about the omission of AR/BR warfare from your description.

We make fun of the people on facebook spouting crap about screenshots, and then run with our own untruths. Different ammo counts in different builds indicates tweaking, not ammo count changing. Sage saying "almost intantly" doesn't indicate hitscan. And yet, we comment as though these could be fact.

We be hypocrites.

Honestly it didn't feel any different than an opponent pulling out a shotgun or rocket launcher mid-fire fight and finishing you off.

I thought it was posted somewhere saying that Hitscan is comfirmed for all unsc weapons... or was that just speculation?

EDIT: The power drain was awesome. The last time i played halo i launched through a man cannon, tossed a power drain, dropped a banshee and boarded it while it was falling, when it fell it was out of the power drains reach and i flew off with it.

Look, somebody posted the comparison pics in a separate thread. Can't wait to see the game trolled to hell immediately.

Bungie posts shots that aren't representative of the final game all the time; Halo 2 and 3 both had lots of screenshots released that were full of placeholder textures and visual glitches. They've emphasized that these shots are from a 2 month old build and have several elements missing.

I have no problem believing that the reticle is a glitch, because I think the alternative is much more ridiculous. What is the use of a reticule that tracks enemies? I literally cannot see a point to it besides making it harder to aim when the reticle goes off chasing butterflies.

Sage says the weapons hit more or less instantly, whereas before the BR took a frame to reach medium distances. This causes weapons to feel more precise and powerful. I don't care whether that's hitscan or not, it's irrelevant, but that is something revealed so we are commenting on it.

I'd have to agree with that. And it would be just like Microsoft to make Bungie put camera functionality in their biggest game of 2010. Would there be a better way to sell it to people?

It's actually much more tame than I thought it would be. Considering how much general Gaf hates Halo, the thread is actually very civil.

Agreed, and admittedly I similarly feel cheated when that happens, however the frequency of such an event is much smaller compared to the amount of times I have put myself in a vulnerable situation to take out an opponent, only to have him retreat inside an impenetrable wall of bubble, with me getting killed in the process.

Honestly thats VERY different in Halo 3 at least because you can see your opponents secondary on theyre back, plus the time involved in switching and firing is waay too much if im br'ing you already.

But yeah my favorite trick in Halo 1 was to lure a banshee towards me then suprise it by pulling out a Rocket Launcher :lol

But yeah I feel the same as Arnie in regards to seeing what your opponent has and reacting based on that - being killed because the enemy has a few more bullets than I do in a way I cant even tell thats the case would suck, thats why im also sort of against armour abilitys aswell.

Dude you win. Murray for the motherfucking win.

You guys are bitching about the equipment because you can't see it when it's carried? o_O

Not being able to see the contents of my enemy's pockets isn't something I blame my death on. :lol :lol

Dude, I lose. I'm pretty sure that by the time Reach comes out, I won't be able to enjoy the game, because I'm going to miss all the silly ideas this thread is spawning. ;)

I actually meant something else. The AR in that screen still has the protective case to keep the electronics from getting damaged while the slightly newer AR doesn't have it. Of course that could have been an early test model before the art team settled for a final look but it could also mean that cosmetic weapon customization is in the game.

I'm down with armour so long as there are varieties. I get sick of always being the same, so looking different is important.

And Sage talked about bullets moving almost instantly in Edge, which isn't the same as Hitscan. Don't confuse them plz.

The old armor had the best shape period. I don't get why people hate on it for being "chunky". Must be anime fans.
It felt somewhat more grounded and realistic than the Mark VI armor of Halo 2. In my opinion, the appearance of the armor properly suited the gameplay of Combat Evolved. I remember the design of Master Chief being equated to a cross between an armored tank and a legionnaire, and honestly, it makes sense.

There is absolutely no way I can picture a Halo: CE Spartan dual-wielding or boarding vehicles. :lol

Opinions and all that. I'm not an anime guy. I just like the Halo 3 look better - sleeker, more streamlined and more stylish.

Not that it matters in the Reach discussion: we'll all be customizing our dude. :D

:lol My bad Ghaleon, I wasn't trying to single you out. Multiple people have said "chunky" to describe the characters.

I guess me being a big beefy dude has always made me biased to the tank-like Chief.

^^the above pic. See, that would be ok if Chief were a machine, but somehow a large powerful man is supossed to fit under all that metal and I just don't see it happening. I'm very happy that Bungle changed it :)

Some kid took a screenshot of his recent games list and is trying to get internet famous saying he's a part of the internal Alpha and wants me to post the story on my website. I told him my bullshit meter is only so high, and he needed in-game or at the very least menu's to make the news.

He replied:

i cant post any menu screen...
but this is real.

Play along with him and get him to do ridiculous stuff to earn your belief

I remember reading a story about how a person took the piss with a scammer by making him post a picture of himself standing on his head or something :lol

Have him add the colon between "Halo" and "Reach" and capitalize the "i" in internal. Bush League.

I actually :lol SO true.

So is the recent menu leak fake or is just that pic fake?
This is different from the other story - this is some other kid seeing the story and messaging me on GRU trying to get the same story in the news. And to your point, I have a feeling the other menu leak was fake (see urk's reaction to that post).

No, just me. And why does everyone have to refer to it as bitching? I was simply talking about how I thought Equipment was a weak and uncharacteristic part of the Halo sandbox in multiplayer. Doesn't mean it ruined the game, I still play Halo 3 multiplayer to this day. People don't have to be so defensive.

Urk, any ETA on the podcast, I was planning on going for a late night run and was hoping for some Sage Merril in my ear cavities.
Eww

Sage and mass effect will compete for my attentions if it comes tonight. It is these difficult decisions that define us as men.

So he saw the other person's mistake of calling it a Beta when Reach hasn't reached that point yet, and makes one with Alpha instead. Stupid.
