That Joystiq writeup whets my appetite.

No more English speaking aliens. Awesome looking new animation and behaviours. more sandbox design, less scripting. Larger battles.

All stuff I want from a Halo game.

What? Why? Hopefully they're wrong because that's something I REALLY do not want because of what happened with Firefight and ODST. Pulling the maps from campaign for Firefight cheapened the campaign for me.
This. The area becomes very gamey, fake, and significantly less interesting when it's in both in MP and in SP.

OH GOD DO NOT WANT! BUNGIE WTF!! :'(

Same. The more I learn about Reach, the more it sounds like CE. That is a very good thing in my opinion. :D

People already jumping to conclusions. Even if they do pull the maps from campaign, I doubt bungie will half-ass it. ODST was done quick and dirty while Reach had time.

All the previews states that the game looks phenomenal and leaps above Halo 3 so please stop beating yourself up about the pic.

I never use it in-game but it came in handy for walkthroughs, "head west to the end of the corridor, there will be 2 jackals guarding the door", and for navigating while exploring outside of the level.

the AR compass would be redundant. in this pic look above the "Warning" in the health bar. there is a compass built into your HUD like in ODST.

Love you Kibbles, always breaking up nonsense discussions with hot news/info/media.
Really excited for the Vidoc now.

Anybody notice the bullet counter on the AR? Maybe the AR has been modified so that you fire two shots when pumping?

^^^also, maybe because he is customizable and will look different depending on how each player Pimps him out. Maybe.

lolwat?

I'm imagining a frantic Marine trying to pump his AR :lol

[edit for post below this one] I actually had a thought back when the Tom Morrelo pics surfaced, that maybe Bungie was designing certain parts of campaign to basically play like a firefight. I have no evidence, just a thought when I saw the huge play area at night with the Phantom hovering low. Looked like the Spartans were defending something.

Well you also have to think about it this way, the firefight maps where ripped from single player in stand off situations, so im sure its the same thing here, just from a multi-player stand point...maybe you have to hunt down a cretin amount of Covenant in a closed area during the single player or something along those lines.

Because the game isn't about him, it's seeing & getting to know the other characters through his eyes (imo).

Yeah, that makes sense. And since apparently Reach is a character in and of itself, maybe Reach is actually the main character...

You haven't heard? All the human weapons get less accurate the more you hold down the trigger (the reticule expands).
Oh, you mean feathering the trigger! My bad man, that threw me off.

Well, the plasma rifle post CE was altered to fire a 2-shot, so it's not out of the question. I just want someone to play the demo and let us know if the damn thing has more range! I've always loved the AR, but damn it needs a kick in the dick and the balls.

Having been very critical of everything graphics related, I have to say I think the new media is very impressive. Can't wait to see it in motion.

This is probably Bungie's last game for the Halo franchise, at least for awhile. That means they should end it with a bang
not a whimper
. If the campaign is being gimped for the MP, then I'd rather have Bungie drop MP altogether and focus on the campaign. That's where the most important aspect of Halo lies, I feel.
WTF?

New Info I gathered
-Beta will have a few maps and a few match types (gametypes?) and one is brand new
-New equipment are called "Armor Abilities" (sprint lasts several seconds)
-Maps pulled from campaign (possibly Firefight/CoD style?)
-Some destructible architecture (Destroying 'lit' walls on Power House)
-Pushing approx 4 million more polygons than Halo 3
-Power House will be in the Reach Beta
-Animation systems completely re-written, all sound effects re-recorded

HYPE
How many polys was Halo 3 pushing?

Dang it. May 3rd I'll be on my honeymoon in the Caribbean. During the H3 beta I was in Hawaii. I call conspiracy.

When I go to paradise I am reminded that my hobby needs an internet connection.

Semi-destructable walls? Color me impressed. I know they probably won't be able to have mp with entire buildings coming down, but a battle field that evolves sounds very nice. Thnx Bunige!

I like how most of you are content with quoting a post that is later clarified in another post. Yet, for some reason, you guys choose to quote this. Whatever.

Hype for Reach has just dropped quite a bit.
:lol

I'm sure there will be a number of symmetrical maps of varying sizes ideal for MP play in the campaign.

The lack of confidence you guys have about the maps situation is astounding. This is a main entry, in the Halo franchise, Bungie wouldn't repeat the mistakes of ODST. Also, if they recycle assets in a smart way, they will have time to polish other pieces of the game.

Thinks the Evil Empire is just misunderstood.
Let me get out ahead on this and say that I don't think taking the MP environments from SP is a bad thing at all. If anything this will likely lead to more frenetic firefights in SP since the levels are designed with cover and multiple paths in mind.

Also seeing the new animations with the Elites in combat was fantastic. It's just so nice seeing an athletic adversary on the battlefield.

They also said the MP levels would be different from SP. These won't be pixel identical to what you see in the campaign. An example given was a night level in the campaign being set in the afternoon for MP.

Personally I'm hoping for the option for multiple day/night options for each level.

I know this is an old comment in regards to Halo, but seeing Reach in screenshots does not do the game justice. The added animation and particle effects really give it a unique look.

That cheapens the campaign, though.
Translations of "..." for you:

"NOT"

":p"

"/sarc"

You really think there will symmetrical arenas in campaign? I suppose I could be wrong - one advantage of using campaign environments is the AI (for Firefight) already knows how to navigate it. But I'll be shocked if they're just doing geometry rips for all MP maps. Doesn't fit with how Bungie makes their games, at all.

Im not gonna lie, I've been dying for a sea-based map in Halo for some time. Aircraft Carrier would be awesome but anything at sea would be badass. Longshore doesn't count, I'm talking ship(s) on open waters.

lybertyboy/D.Ellis said over twitter that Bungie won't be on the podcast "but going to try and record a quick chat with them tonight."

Not as hoped, but better than nothing.
