Not that's the LEAST bit important, but am I right in saying the little compass ISN'T missing from the AR?

It's still in. How else are you gonna tell where in the hell you're going?

heres the question about grass that actually counts: Halo 3 had grass, except that once you exceeded the 10 meters or so around you the LOD would kick in and the engine stops bothering loading it; does Reach do this cause if it does then there's really no point getting excited.

K, the point of contention about the multiplayer being lifted from campaign seems to be some people are assuming it means aesthetic, while others are assuming direct environments. It's pretty obvious that a map like Construct pulled its aesthetic directly from the back half and interiors of the campaign mission The Ark. You could say that that multiplayer map comes from that specific campaign environment, even though it's obivously not in the campaign proper.

But then there are maps like the Firefight maps, which are exact geometry ports from spaces in campaign.

So urk, plz tell the people that these maps are going to be like previous multiplayer maps and not like firefight maps.

Or disconfirm it and take shelter from the nerd rage.

We had screens, names, and impressions for three Halo 3 maps over five months before the Beta.

This time around, we finally got one name and a concept shot, and we're just over two months away from the Beta. Hopefully the floodgates will burst open soon

..
In all honesty I'm glad they waited, instead of trickle info here and there. I wish they wouldn't have said anything until April... What a surprise that would be .... It's not like they have to show anything, I'll be thare 12pm est Monday May 3rd 2010!:lol :lol Don't fuck it up Bungle :p
I'm still happy for the news and thankful don't get me wrong

Bungie makes some of the most creative multiplayer maps in the business. They're not stupid. You don't have to worry.
I'm not worried, I was just making hypothesis about something I consider very unlikely. As I said, considering the way they handled that in the past, seems ridiculous to think of Bungie using the Infinity Ward method with MP maps.

I trust Bungie 100%. Hell, they created the (imo) best videogame/saga of all time (my avatar is there for a reason :D) it would be silly for me not to trust them :) I'm sure Reach will be amazing, MP maps included.

Bye ;)

Fucking KNEW it.

I couldn't understand what made everyone think it was gone.

The gun in the shack(?) screen is CLEARLY not the AR.
No, it's definately the AR. Take another look.

Probably all initial maps. Similar to what's been done in the past, naturally

Some of the maps from launch in Halo 3 were from the Campaign, or based on a level from Campaign, not all. There were plenty of unique areas (see Highground, Last Resort, The Pit, and Sandtrap). I have no doubt they're going to play and flow well - it's Bungie. I would just prefer unique areas for most of the multiplayer maps, is all. I don't want it to be like Firefight where a section from a Campaign level is cut out and them morphed into a multiplayer map.

Edit: Also, goddamn does this game look so good. Wonder if this shot is how it actually looks right now? If that's how it'll look running on our TVs, then WOW. Looks super clean. :D

Looky here. Same gun, even has the yellow strip indicated that it is not even a real gun, but an airsoft gun that tickles their targets. Aimed at the armpit for maximum laughter. See how ticklish jackals are?

I don't know where its radar went, nor do I care, but I kind of find it interesting that Urk says it's still there.

2MT: you're confusing the pre-Thanksgiving build with the X10 build. Notice the HUD difference as well (yellow -> blue as we were told a few weeks back)

Curious to see how sprint in this game compares to other FPS... Faster than Halo's usual speed or actually really fast. Also, is the defulat speed faster or slower than previous Halo games?

Hopefully closer to Halo 2's speed.

I hope it is faster than normal sprinting in most games. Should be a burst of speed.

Do you think you'll be able to sprint with the flag? If there even is CTF...
That strikes me as the kind of caveat they'd apply to MP. It would reduce flag games to getting the guy with sprint near the base. Sprint!*

*Except when carrying the flag/bomb/whatever.

Don't know if noted but the right side of the screen towards where it looks like skirmeshers are approaching they appear to have the HUD outlines like in the ODST visor.

Artifacting, I assume, because of the smoke behind.

Maybe they are using campaing maps because they are adding a L4D type game mode where one team is the spartans and another team can drop in covenant squads and control elites.

I think you're all getting worked up over a misunderstanding, with regard to multiplayer/campaign maps.

Look at Citadel. It's a map that's nearly universally liked; flow is great, works for slayer, works for Flag, plays well both for competitive groups and for casual fun.

It's a clear rip of a space from the bases of the towers in The Covenant - but it's been modified to play well in multiplayer. You can see the Campaign map it started from, no problem - but it's its own space.

I remember a vidoc in which Max Hoberman talked about how important it was to Bungie to make the multiplayer spaces remind players of the campaign spaces they came from - this was during Halo 2's development. They've been doing it for years, and it hasn't really bugged anyone before now - why get all freaked out at this point?

Why are the two first person view screenshots the only ones showing some slight aliasing? Are they any different from the other typical photomode screenshots that smooth the heck out of every edge? If these 2 are representative of what actual gameplay IQ looks like, that would be fantastic.

It's because the Halo community is super paranoid. They can read one thing and assume the worst out of it. :p
