Also, no duel wielding sounds just fine to me. It would seem like I'm missing out on something, but every time I go back and play CE, I don't miss it at all.

Finally, assassination animation > tea bagging.
We know there's going to be the Assault Rifle, Shotgun redesigned, Designed Marksman Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Pistol, Grenade-Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Needler, Plasma Pistol, Needler Rifle, and I'm sure a few others we haven't been told about, is kept hidden, or I'm completely missing. Some of the Halo 3 weapons like the SMG, Spiker, Mauler, and Beam Rifle [seem] to be gone. The Beam may just be replaced by the Needler Rifle. I'm wondering if they pushed the Plasma Rifle enough that they won't have the Carbine variant, either.

No FF mention as far as I'm aware. With the news of Elites in MP and the Human/Elites square off, they may not necessarily include the entire mode itself. In my mind, that isn't a bad thing. More of MP and hopeful custom game browser.
 
< can i have this elite avatar? its fucken rocks... Its the only one that i think is worthy enough of dethroning my sweet jacked arms with Carters armor.

EDIT: it would be absolutely perfect if the background was blacked out except for the floor he is walking on, it would be an endless loop without the background chopping. But im good with it :D.

A - Jump
B - Melee
X - Assassination
Y - Weapon Swap
LT - Grenade
RT - Shoot
LB - Armour ability
RB - Reload
Torch - D pad down
Night vision - D pad up
Grenade switch - D pad left and right

Done. But in the end, this is the reason we need FULLY customisable button mapping. Seriously urk, have you guys considered it?

I had that problem aswell, its best to just do the achievment again.

As for Reach being 60 fps, and a wider FOV, I think Halo is actually pretty jarring to play when I havent played for ages and I guess a smoother framerate and more natural FOV would help the game feel 'nicer' to new players.

After playing for a few hours the game feels natural enough but yeah I dont care about graphics and technical shit like lighting, I just want the game to have a nice feel to it.

You access the Beta through the ODST disc itself, so yup, a new/borrowed/pre-owned copy will work.

They explained it in a Bungie weekly update before Halo 3 was released, they went through great lengths to ensure that button combinations couldnt be taken advantage of A LA H2, and even got some cheater to come in and see what he could break the control schemes.

So yeah theyre reason for not allowing full customization was because theres no way of really testing for EVERY single combination, and to be fair limiting the control schemes to like a good 10 different control schemes while avoiding cheating is a good enough trade off for me.

I'm sorry, call me ignorant, but how does the mapping of buttons pave the way for cheating?

I'm not being a smart ass, I actually would like to know, because I like learning shit like this.

After playing halo 2 all today I have come to the conclusion that removing dual wielding is for the best and the AR start in halo 3 is better than smg spawn in 2.

Hey, this seems like a glimpse of the epilogue level, which is Halo CE's second level remade in the Reach engine. Bungie must have read that Halogaf post (don't remember by who) from a few months back.

When will you be allowed to talk more in depth about the engine? I remember that for Halo 3 the reason why you guys went with the chosen resolution had to do with the specific lighting system. Now, the lighting doesn't seem to have taken a hit, it has improved and yet the game looks a bit sharper, so the technology must be awesome, and I would love to read one some facts and eventually a future Bungie publication.

Well button combinations where a pretty big problem in Halo 2, im not smart enough to know 100 % why (I think mostly to do with animations) but with Halo 3 they were very careful to ensure button combinations wernt an issue. Even in the odd situation where a button combination could trigger a animation they coded it in such a way that the action associated with the animation didnt occur.

With custom mapping it would be impossible to code a 'fix' for every situation as far as I can tell and it would be even harder to stop the animations showing up for every button combination in the first place.

Dont get me wrong im basing this on my own experiance with programming and what I read like 3 years ago :lol so I may be completely wrong.

I saw it too, it's on a screen at some point in the video (4:31), but where do you get that it's "Halo" from Halo CE? I didn't think anything of it before. Interesting...

Kinda kidding based on a gaf post from a while back that got me drooling. That image in the vidoc has a bright green environment, rocky formations and pointy trees, reminded me of that.

I so want another extremely beautiful green, long and wide open level in the style of "Halo" and "The Covenant" in this new engine.

Don't take this the wrong way, because it may sound worse than I intend it to, but that makes no sense.

Whether melee is X or RB, or RT, or DPad Left, how does that affect ANYTHING? I still don't see how cheaters can exploit something like that.

Ah, that's what I was thought, though part of me was definitely hoping that you saw something that looked exactly like a part from Halo 1. h =P

You don't have to look much further than that xterm clip with you aiming wildly as you jump and bring your thumb back the sticks to know why BJ is better. There is nothing about default that's better than BJ.

But at your age, change becomes pretty tough and you probably would do worse with BJ.

You got me there :lol Im not gonna clutch at straws and try and explain but im sure I read the reason in the BWU and it made sense. (unfortinatly I just dont remember why)

I found it easier to use Nades in Defualt for some odd reason, but thanks to BJ my game improved loads.

This is my prediction for the story of Reach: Start out fighting insurgents, surprise surprise the base you're attack is actually covenant, you end up sneaking onto the ship in the reveal trailer which leaves and takes you to Alpha Halo and you explore some stuff there that we saw in CE and it ends with your team escaping and floating through space.

Who was number one on the team on every game but one? Oh yes. That TJ Trasher kid. So maybe, JUST maybe, me being shitty online has a direct correlation of how FAR I am from the rest of you dudes over Xbox Live. :)

But yeah, online play compared to local play is like day and night for me. Especially when I'm playing with all you west coasters.

Ugh, still mad we lost so bad to those kids that were like friends with Neighbor or whoever was there at the tournament that day...

This looks so incredible and promising..

I keep getting hyped for reach, and then I immediately think back to ODST and it sends a shiver down my spine...

Please do not disappoint me again Halo!
 
You guys notice the Forerunner structure to the left of the big battle at 4:40 in the vidoc? Never read the book, but did Reach have some Forerunner stuff the covenant was after or something?
 
Has anyone thought about how Halo: Reach's engine, more specifically its ability to render large amounts of characters on screen at once, might impact multiplayer? A lot of what Bungie has had to say about Reach is the increase in the scale of the conflicts in the game. Maybe that will transfer over to the multiplayer resulting in much larger player counts? I like to think that there will be some modes with 24+ players in them. It seems they have the rendering capabilities, hopefully they will work out the netcode required to make it happen. I really think the Halo multiplayer sandbox could benefit with increased player counts in some playlists/game variants.

SIDENOTE: In the ViDoc Sage says that assassinations are initiated by holding the B button when meleeing from behind. Which makes sense because if it in multiplayer, it won't become a cheap tactic because you would have gotten the insta-kill assassination anyway. It will just be a kind of flourish move like the executions in Gears of War.

God I hope not. It's like the plot for Halo 2: This huge battle is taking place, and instead you fly off somewhere else.

I'm trying to remember but I think it was in the podcast that somebody mentioned there were going to be animations for the sides as well? Wouldn't that change it up a bit?
