Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

M-Class dooooooooood.

Also, I see trees and geological formations in those screens that don't look Terran.
Ok, true. My main irk is that for something that Bungie is defining as the 7th main character, it doesn't, as of yet, seperate itself clearly from Earth or even the original Halo (with the comparison pics of the epilogue). I suppose the crazy atmospheric skyboxes among other things will help define it but I just don't want it to be uncomfortably familiar.

God I love my girlfriend. We were playing multi-team last resort and she was getting really frustrated that people kept killing her from a distance. I told her that she had to either hid and wait for them to come close or find a BR then she could start fighting again.

"How do I get a BR?"

"You have to memorize where they spawn, run over and pick them up."

"Why don't we just start with one?"

On a completely unrelated note, urk, when we will see the return of the Bungie Waaahmbulance? I suddenly miss it. :(

Maybe you should tell her about the rocket, then she'll wonder why you don't start with that also.

She knows about the rockets. She's not an idiot. She understands the difference between a power weapon and a flexible weapon.

So what do you call someone who doesn't understand the difference between a short range and a mid-range weapon?

I would call them a idiot, but its not about that really is it?

I would say spawning with the more versatile weapon just makes for a better game, range be damned!

Yeah I understand the importance of range and so on, but shoving a AR in our hands isnt the way to deal with it :(

As for gore I always laugh at the meathead mentality of some other games, keep that immature shit outta Halo.

She understands the AR doesn't work at long range. Thus, the desire to find a BR...

Out of interest, how many people actually enjoy using the AR, if in some odd world the AR was long range would you use it then?

I personally just dont get much enjoyment out of the thing, like the rockets/ sword or shotgun, even if it was insanely powerful I would still avoid it.

Look no further than the poster above you. Some people just weren't born right, I suppose. It's not their fault really so it'd be wrong to mock them, just gotta live and let live.

There are people out there that who'd claim to enjoy the AR. Who'd stand on a mountain top and cry out how they'd love nothing more than to hold that bland excuse for a weapon in their arms and spray the shit out of everything but their opponents in full-auto glory.

Some nice looking moments full of detail that went by too quick to appreciate in the Vidoc:

That last one is interesting as it looks like grenade explosions actually interact with the environment. Those sparks are coming from the chunk of concrete caught in the explosion.

Question is - will it be during game or just in replays. Hm, did Halo 3/ODST had motion blur? can not remember.

Definately. It was far more noticeable on ODST for some reason though. Probably because they pulled out the FOV more when driving vehicles.

I must watch some gameplay movies then because I did not notice it during the game. But I hope it gets turned down a bit in Reach, it is a bit too much for my taste.

The blur seems spot-on in motion. Makes the game look smoother than 30fps, and clears up pretty quick when you're not spinning around. Also, it's mainly around the edge of the screen and not where you're pointed.

Blur looks better the higher the resolution, so it would be safe to assume the lower rendering resolution of Halo 3/ODST would make the blur appear more apparent than in Reach.

I don't know.. I always felt Halo should make use of its M-rating. I think it's due to the Flood, but it amazes me a game like Uncharted where you shoot hundreds of realistic looking people gets a Teen rating while Halo, where you're killing semi-cartoony aliens, gets an M rating.

well, one thing for sure, the writing is more mature.

If the Elites are bigger in MP, I wonder we'll have the option to be Brutes? Can't see it myself but you never know. Not that I'd use one anyway, Security or bust!

I'm guessing no Security in Reach now I've said that :*(

Think I will go dig out my halo 1 disc and play it on the 360, I thought that I lost it long ago but found the disc in an old box in a paper envelope, probably from a lan party experiance 6 or so years back now.

Looks like Bungie is going to stick with a total of 632 (reserve + current clip) bullets for the AR, and the highest I've for the number of bullets you can carry is 42 (reserve + current clip).

I don't think you'll have to worry about finding a cool helmet. I'm thinking we've just been shown the absolute basics for customizing out characters. I can't wait to see what we're allowed to do.

I hope oh so desperately that they don't go overboard with the barriers again...

Halo 3 and ODST were both a bit much. Let the players explore! It is campaign, letting people venture off won't hurt anyone.

Has there been any talk of fall damage coming back? That would be quite interesting.

Several Bungie employees have already said that clip numbers in current screenshots may or may not reflect dev console adjustments - they add extras to make sure they don't run out if they're doing something.

Nothing we've seen so far tells us with any sort of confidence at all how many rounds will be in the shipping Reach AR.

Ah. That makes sense.

I will approach cautiously this one, last time they stated this about Halo 3, they didn't deliver. Besides that looks like a concept art so wtf?

Actually they did. There are screenshots from glitchers who made it all the way to the Forerunner starship at Voi. It's real geometry. The distances accurately scaled.

Im sure the chances are pretty slim. But I would do pretty much anything to see the Halo 2 maps make it to Reach.

In my mind, probably the best map set I've ever played.

Seriously though, anything

Sierra 117 was the worst offender. And The Covenant was highly deceptive. I remember the media creaming over Tsavo Highway simply because of the lack of backdrops. But really, it didn't add anything to the gameplay.

My favorite bit that has been overlooked in the vidoc is the Skirmisher that was playing alongside the Elite. The animation on that was amazing, especially the way it smoothly raised the rifle up to fire and the bobbing of the feathers.

There's something I don't quite understand. If it's real geometry, then why not allow the players to go there without having to glitch?

This. Otherwise I could care less if it's real geometry or just a backdrop that looks real. We should be able to explore if chosen. Halo 1 and Halo 2 were fine (despite some invisible barriers, you could easily find ways to get around them). Sure Halo 3 you can glitch out but even if you do the outside glitches the camera and it repeates the texture all over you screen if you look somewhere you aren't supposed to.

[edit] To clarify, I'm talking about Campaign of course, not multiplayer.
