Headhunter was a scrapped game variant for Halo 3. It existed during the Halo 3 Alpha, but was decided to be scrapped before the Halo 3 Beta was released.

The objective of this game was to pick up skulls scattered across the map and carry them to certain points on the map to score points. When the player killed another player, that player lost all the skulls he carried.
Seems like they've just figured out a way to make it work. :D

I'm guessing that it will be a FFA game where whoever has the most headshot kills will be the one everyone is trying to kill and steal the skulls that person has collected. They will be singled out kind of how like the juggernaut is in that game mode maybe.

I was a little nervous about assassinations being "uninterruptible" like in Gears of War, where chainsaw kills had you turn invincible temporarily. The "oh shit help your teammate" indicator in the simultaneous assassination clip seems to suggest that Bungie is smarter than that.

Either way, Invasion won't just be slayer.

From watching the video, it would seem that there are two variants: Invasion and Invasion Slayer.

I'm so loving the verticality on display here. Between the jetpacks and the level design it just gives me this vibe of playing Prisoner back in H:CE. <3 rockets on that map so much.

Looks good, had me thinking a lot about the first multiplayer trailer for H3. When I first saw that trailer/vidoc I was really exciting and soaked in anticipation. It's almost like the Halo cheeseburger somehow now tastes better, well played Bungie you fine chefs. Looking forward to seeing all the hidden gems found by you gaf.

You are just going to bitch about the beta too. If Halo Reach came with a hot girl that gave you blow jobs on command you would find a way to bitch about that too.

Not sure if you knew this or not, but Bungie did say that you could kill someone during the assassination animation.

Its really there to insult the enemy. Articulating visually your superiority over them. Thats how i see it and welcome it.
 
In the trailer it appears that the X button does a lot, much like in Halo/Halo2. Everything from picking up weapons, to boarding a ghost. Maybe with dual wielding out, they don't need the bumpers to do all the weapon work, and are reserved for armor ability's.

Yeah, that's why I guessed that, but it could be that he was just holding one skull.

A lot of the assassination animations have that, where the players sort of inexplicably drop what they're doing in order to "engage" their killers before contact has been made (shower scene, for example).

Yup, one of my favorite elements as well.

Random observation before I (finally) head to work: love the animation at 1:19, where the Spartan's upper body spins back after taking the headshot. Animation across the board just looks awesome.

Not much of a visual showcase, which leaves me sad. But the new stuff looks fun. That bubble shield thing was all sorts of badass.

Also, in regards to how the Headhunter gametype may work, I bet everyone is worth one skull at the beginning of the match until they start accumulating more from players they kill, and then they would obviously drop more skulls once they have collected some. But those players that have no skulls would still most likely be worth one skull to anyone who kills them at that point. Otherwise the game couldn't progress at the beginning of a match. :lol

Exactly what I was thinking. I wonder how you score the skulls, though. Maybe some sort of moving Hill-like dispenser.

It's there above your primary weapon. Look at 16 seconds in.

Why would anyone stand over someone's corpse and repeatedly click crouch?

People love to humiliate eachother online. A lengthy assassination animation is more humiliating than a quick tap in the back.

The map at 1:08 (while the Spartans vs. Elites text is on-screen), the one I've been calling Rock Garden, is straight out of the first ViDoc (we see iterations of it as tech/lighting are added, then we see it as the AR shoots against the fence and makes sparks).

I am guess roll is the default action for the equipment button when no equipment is loaded.
I wonder what the equivalent for spartans is. It can't be sprint since that's a loadout.

That may make sense. I find it hard to believe that being able to roll would be a result of a certain loadout...

So, I'd imagine that Arena is just UT-style gameplay, or to be more specific, mainly for MLG?

That's how I see it anyway..

Also, I need to know what Invasion is! Hopefully urk explains it in detail the BWU.
 
Holy shit. In most of those clips, it looks like the ground geometry is such that grenade bouncing may actually be an intelligent strategy again! Two thumbs up to that.

Yes it still works like the assassinations we know from the previous Halo games. Think of these animated assassinations like optional teabagging. Just a way to taunt your opponent.

I think someone said that the sprint loadout icon is the one with the lightning bolt design on it.

1:08 (again) - all 3 Spartans have AR's and the 2 Elites have plasma rifles. No freeze evident and if those are the Spartan vs. Elite spawn weapons, it seems to suggest that they want those two weapons on a fairly equal playing field. Meh to that. Hopefully they have something to differentiate them gameplay-wise.
