Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

The person that fires the rocket at the generator is a spartan even if it's an elite's hud. Look at his hand that is holding the rocket launcher.

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like it could be an elite's hand when I watch it in the video.

It's true Halo 3 beta didn't have any AA either and people said the final version would.

Turns out the final version of halo 3 was 640p with no AA.

I'm just hoping that halo reach will at least have 2xAA. I mean if remedy can do 4xAA with alan wake why can't bungie. Jaggies bother me a LOT, not so much in mp but singleplayer immersion gets ruined by jaggies.
I'm looking at the trailer right now, and honestly, I'm not seeing all this "lack of AA" you're talking about. Unless Bungie did something to the video, judging from all the first-person perspective shots we got, there is a lot more AA in Reach than in Halo 3 (or they increased the resolution).

Just curious, will Reach be running at 60 fps? It's difficult for me to go back to Halo 3 after playing MW2. H3 just feels so much slower and choppier.

I was about to say that. The hand is much smaller, and looks more like an armored elite.

That might be because the videos are probably from theater mode, which made everything look better in Halo 3.

Nope.

What is that weapon at 0.46? A new Fuel Rod Cannon? Seems to have a lock on mode (not sure of that one) but it looks like it fires plasma grenades of some kind.

So many things to be seen in a frame by frame analysis.

Theater mode has the same IQ as gameplay in Halo 3.

Resolution is higher in Reach, and there's more blur.

They need to update review scores for ODST to include the free DLC multiplayer mode. I'd say a 2 point curve sounds right considering the beta is only rivaled by Perferct Dark XBLA and Bad Company 2 for multiplayer goty.

Ehrm, why not like, uhm, the full Reach game?

I love the way that they name the areas you are in and placing that name just to the right of the motion tracker. That will seriously help with communicating! Please keep it in the final build.

Yeap from what I can tell it's either a redesigned Fuel Rod Cannon, or basically the Covenant answer to the Rocket Launcher. Either way, it appears to have vehicle lock on.

Ah, you're right. it's just very small and faint in this vid. (I'm sure it's better in-game.)

Thanks. Getting old... :lol
Some of the earlier screens had the secondary weapons (and grenades) as faded out a bit compared to what you had selected. I like the concept much better.

What? Only screenshots are supersampled. Videos taken using theater mode have the exact same settings as the game, so no post processing. Having said that, the resolution is slightly higher -as confirmed by the devoted pixel counters at Beyond3D-, 1152x720, so there are bound to be slightly less jaggies.

You know I would trade in a lot of visual flair for a decent framerate, 1280x720p and at least 2xAA. I wish bungie felt the same way..

I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement.

Just showed the Trailer to some friends. They were not impressed :lol

We finally see the mystery weapon in action. It's kind of hard to make out exactly what it is though. It looks like it just takes out a couple of guys at :35

Rocket speed if it isn't changed seems to be increased. When the guy blows up the generator it almost looks like a few frames are missing lol. Also the explosion the generator makes looks pretty fucking cool.

A lot of pistol kills in this trailer, looks like Bungie is trying to win back the Halo 1 crowd. At least those who don't like Halo 2 or Halo 3.

Also, I NEED this fucking song. It's from ODST?

Edit: don't know if it was mentioned, this thread is moving fast. New Service tags. 1 letter and 3 numbers. 1:04 Looks like I'm going to be T023

This preview vid is just awesome. Time to go watch yet again! :lol

I just finished reading First Strike and am now halfway through Ghosts of Onyx. The books have hyped me up so much for Reach. I feel that reading through these 2 books is giving me more insight into the backstory of Reach and the Spartan IIIs that we'll be playing. I don't know why I waited so long to finally start these 2 books.

I dunno if it is because Urk said in the other thread that he was going to see what he could do to try and put it up for us to download I think.

Anybody else notice the lack of a spartan laser in that trailer? :D

Except for that weapon, whatever it was, at 1:17.
That's definitely a new beam rifle, one where you need to hold the beam on the target to kill. Looks like a more effective sentinel beam.

From urk's write-up at b.net
In addition to the hot new footage, this trailer features a C Paul track originally orchestrated for the Halo 3: ODST Original Soundtrack. For the high energy remix, we brought in longtime friend of the studio, Ivan Ives, to help us make the musical magic happen. Here’s what he had to say about the process:

"I'm really honored that Marty let me work on the remix of the Uphill, Both Ways track with C Paul. It was a great piece to begin with so we just wanted to put a different spin on it, which turned out really cool. Added in a really heavy dark bass and some lighter piano to contrast it and give it a really epic feeling to match the Multiplayer awesomesauce."

Oh that'd be amazing. Please Urk!

I think it's a remix. Listening to ODST soundtrack now and am not hearing the exact song. Hopefully it'll be up soon. Actually, I'd love to have the Reach OST before the game ships. What's been the past practice of this, anyone know? Is it released same day, before, after?

Just now had a chance to watch it.

Wow, just wow. I'm sure Bungie is rolling in how happy the large majority of people who watched it are. I know all of my buddies are fascinated now, including myself.

I have my concerns, but I'm reserving them for now until I have more time to mull over this. Great job, however. GREAT job. The hard work definitely shows.

It changed enough that I didn't even recognize it. The piano part was stuck in my head for the hour drive to work. Hopefully they are able to release it. Like the rest of the trailer, it's so good.

Also, this is the best cut "traditional" trailer Bungie has done, much better than the Halo 3 and ODST E3 trailers.

I'm guessing the feature breakouts layered into the video are what we can start to expect to see in terms of b.net features - a deep dive into explaining how Invasion works, then what The Arena is, etc. For some reason the name of the latter almost makes me think there's some kind of persistence to it.

a mothafucken anti-vehicle sticky launcher... YES

Notice the Elite FrontFlip :49

lots of jeck pack action. It looks A LOT different from Halo 3's multiplayer but i dont see something that requires instructions or the killing machine urk hinted at.

I thought i would be more impressed. The shaders on the spartans didnt look as good as in 3, they look really matte with weak specularity and the textures didnt look much better then in 3. There were obvious placeholders on the mountains so chances are the graphics will look much better when the game is out.... But i did notice there were some moments where the graphics looked much better (0:30, 1:01, some close quarters, and the entire "green" map), i think it has to do with the dynamic lights, in the open spaces there isnt enought contrast on the characters shading.

I'm assuming Active Roster means drop-in/drop-out multiplayer? Finally a solution for 3-douches-per-box who drop out after they lose the first round.

To be fair this trailer is showing alpha footage, if you rewatch the H3 multiplayer trailer they used H2 textures! The Pit looked horrible :lol

Theyre definatly further along with Reach than they where at this time during development for H3, and im guessing things still need a visual upgrade.

So if the assassination animation is optional, how do respawn times work? If it takes 3 seconds for me to be stabbed, my respawn clock better start ticking down from 7 seconds. Otherwise it'll take about 2 hours for people to tire of the animation and then everyone will exploit it for longer respawns.

I'm sorry if it's been mentioned but scoped Magnum is back, WooHOOOOO!!! This game is what will bring me back to Halo as Halo 3 Multiplayer was meh and MW2 multiplayer is meh. Sweet

Good point. That could definitely be abused.
