I think the asthetics of the jet pack leave a lot to be desired.
I like the idea that you can see it on the player, but that is a really lame looking design.

Well, you can be saved from an assassination. They said so in the beardcast. It would be silly for you to start respawning before you die.

Theyre definatly further along with Reach than they where at this time during development for H3, and im guessing things still need a visual upgrade.

Yeah thats what im assuming. You can see the graphics change a lot from map to map. the map with all the greenery looks amazing.

Now that I've drooled over the HD version, the graphics are really looking sharp. Two details that I liked:

When the generator blows up, it doesn't just disappear in an explosion: that thing is blown to smithereens, raining debris like mad.

The other is the new shield damage. It was talked about in one of the podcast, IIRC, how Bungie wanted the new effect to highlight but not obscure the player behind the shield flaring. Looks pretty awesome - and should look great in night time scenes. I mistook it for an overshield the first time through.

So absurdly hyped right now. I played Halo 3 MP non-stop for two years straight. The grip this game will have on my balls already hurts.

Is it certain that the animation is optional? I thought you could just regular melee, but if you do that from behind it's not a one hit. To one hit him, you have to do the animation but then you are vulnerable.

This new dodge ability I hope it stays. I love it already - as long as it is balanced.

There was more than one color Spartan, and Bungie has already said that you can bring your Spartan from campaign into multiplayer. I wonder, does this mean we can color the armor of our Spartan IN the campaign? Sweet if so.

Edit: Also, @1:25, Grav hammer is confirmed. Looks like the same exact model as Halo 3 (kind of disappointed)

The graphics look awesome, but can somebody confirm that the MP is running at a higuer resolution than Halo 3? I am looking at jaggies and the resolution certainly looks lesser than that of the campaign.

Yeah but it gives an extra pause. If I can add 3 seconds to the respawn of an enemy while my team grabs the flag I'll do it every time, even if it temporarily keeps me out of the picture.

I hope Shishka (lol) is working on the playlists right now. Everything in that video looks fun for a BTB game but not for 4v4. Matchmaking is going to have to be carefully managed with all these new options available

Ah I see what you mean. That's a good point. If the animation takes 3 or 4 seconds then you keep that guy disabled that much longer and prevent him from going into his respawn timer. But then again it's not a guaranteed kill if you are vulnerable. You risk getting yourself killed if your opponent has teammates around.

I think it's quite pointless to debate on this sort of stuff when at the bottom of the footage it says "Alpha Build". =/

Elite rolls could be a mechanism to counteract their massive size and their increased likelyhood to be headshotted. They could take one then roll to avoid the second. Maybe they aren't able to be registered as headshotted while rolling. Hopefully there is some sort of reload period otherwise people are going to be rolling all over the place.

Looks like a great evolution of the halo formula. Jet packs, Spartans vs Elites, even the assassinations are looking great. May 3rd can't come soon enough.

So is the BR basically confirmed to be gone? Won't bother me much since the DMR is obviously the superior weapon.

That would only work if no one on the other team is around. In which case you would be killed if anyone else was around, and then the flag carrier killed, while you could have just tapped him and then killed the other guy. It is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on the situation. Learning when to use it and when not to use it is just another tool for the tool belt.

Halo of War :lol - That roll effect does remind me a lot of the roll from Gears and I hope it doesnt play like it does in Gears.

Im more interested in the control scheme, I just dont see how roll could fit in anywhere :lol

I actually thought the design was pretty cool when I finally saw it in HD (really nice details), but the way its color clashes with the armor is really jarring. It looks as if someone was mixing random action figure parts.

No worries. I'm sure it will work more like Perfect Dark Zero ;P

And people calling this Halo: Tribes make me smile a jackass grin. I always wanted a jetpack, just never thought I would actually see it implemented. Jetpacks AND destroying generators? Day -1 for me.

I have never seen the resolution increase from Alpha build. That is one of the things you lock in early, or maybe even drop down as you want to fit more things into the game. Bungie promised a much sharper game though, so I would feel a bit betrayed. the only reason why I care is because Halo Reach is most likely the only game I will play for a year or two, much like Halo 3.

Anyhow, the bigger the better (for shooting them down), imo. I fucking HATE Drones in H2/H3/ODST... Now we've got player controlled Drones. :/

Nah man, hopefully not. How satisfying would it be to snipe an elite mid-roll? Sticking an elite just before a roll would probably lead to some pretty hilarious physics/animation too.

I thought someone did the analysis of the vidoc footage and found it was at a higher resolution than Halo 3? I don't pay tons of attention to that stuff but I thought it was confirmed based on that footage, at least.

As to image quality - which is what I'm more concerned about, and can change from alpha status - I can't really tell from the video. Looks okay I think? I'll wait for the Beta to really comment.

Brings up what would happen if the Elite rolled into a mancannon, or rolled over a ledge. The animation has the potential to be badass.

As far as the Jetpack goes, if its limited to just up/ down movement I dont see it being good offensivly, would lead to some epic DMR battles if you could strafe mid air though :lol

Mobility didn't look too high in the flying segments - as long as movement speed is at normal levels, it should be fine. Drones were both small and quick, Spartans look to be neither.
That's the thing, the SP in the vidoc looked better with regards to image quality, whereas this video looks worse. It is possible (though very unlikely) that they are using two different resolutions. I wish this video had not released so early, its just too cruel. However, Bungie only unveils little chunks at a time. If all these changes represent just a little chunk, then there might still be more radical and awesome changes.


Also, "image quality" in graphics whore jive is ussually the term coined for the output of the resolution + anti aliasing + antisotropic filtering. Those things hardly ever change since they get locked after the initial performance tests in the engine. However Bungie will still add tons of awesome textures, lights and effects to the game, so the visual appeal will be vastly improved between now and the final release.

I am quite certain that this is a little nugget of what they have for Reach. There are bigger announcements ahead.

I just can't get enough of this vid. Everything is so beautiful. Knowing how much I already love Halo 3, Halo Reach for me seems just so far ahead of everything else out there.

You can clearly see the user can maneuver to the sides using the jetpack. Obviously it will have a cooldown, but they look so awesome. Also, pretty sure that your freedom in the air will be limited, so you would theoretically be an easy target. The new gameplay possibilities are fucking endless!

Everything I see I like, can't say anything more than that.

I just hope the maps are up to scratch. My entire experience with the MP in this game will probably hinge on its maps.
