Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

So speaking of armor accessories and bird attachments, what kind of accessories outside of the base helmet do you think would interest you in upgrading your spartan/elite?

If I look at my friends list now and look at everyone's avatar I see 2 trends. The first is to look normal and make it look like your real life self. The second trend is to make your avatar look as silly as possible. I wonder if we'll ever see a pony tail and/or pink bow attachments for the spartan helmets. :lol

The Daily flavor of Challenges absolutely need to avoid the specificity of say "Kill 2 Players at Once with the Spartan Laser in a Ranked playlist." An example of a Challenge we'd like to stay away from is "Earn a Sniper Spree in a game." I'm fully aware of the horrific consequences that would be introduced into the day's ecosystem by dangling a carrot in front of players to use a particular weapon to great success.

Instead of that, imagine something akin to "Earn Any Spree in Multiplayer Matchmaking today."
Bungie has a knack for coming up with things that make you wonder why nobody else has done it before. The wait for Fall is getting tougher (a sip of Bungie Beer would really not help either, but at least the sip will be so good).

Is this confirmed to be on 2 discs? I'm getting the feeling we're gonna have a seperate multiplayer disc with all this stuff.

I doubt it. If anything it might take up less disk space since the MP maps integrate into campaign. Also, the way everything is tied together from what we know and what we speculate I would almost bet its all on one disc.

Bungie guys,

Please don't force Halo: Reach beta access from ODST disc menu after first download for people who aren't part of F&F. Put ODST disc check instead like installed games, and allow us to start it from game library. Accessing Halo 3 beta via Crackdown disc was annoying.

Thanks.

Judging by this screen it doesn't seem like you earn cR from stuff like that.

Of course it may not be final and they could include it but signs point to no. It's hard to tell from this breakdown and hopefully it'll be clarified with the BWU or the podcast but I'd like it if the point distribution really rewarded winning. In Halo 3 you'd only get rewarded for winning (or tying) and that was too harsh on the loser but really gave players incentive to doing whatever it took to win. If a Reach player can come out with more cR by ignoring the objective and focusing on challenges/commendations/kills than it'll hurt the game (hello BFBC2). Hopefully "Invasion Bonus" is referring to actually winning a round of invasion and "playlist awards" are completing objectives in that game.

Commendations and Challenges are spikes on the Credit earn graph. The slope of that line is defined principally by playing games and winning games.

I don't see why all the hate for IW guy putting marijuana reference in titles of their game, they like the herb and tons of others around the world do. I didn't see a real problem with it. I will admit though that I will prefer not to see Spartans outfitted with leafs, just takes away from the Halo universe a little bit. :lol

Just noticed this from Joystiq.

"Finally, Microsoft has announced that new Halo: Reach multiplayer info will be dropping every Friday between now and the launch of the multiplayer beta in May. The updates will appear on Bungie.net starting this Friday, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled (for jet packs)."

Every Friday will be a good Friday from now till the beta lol.

Oh yeah.
I second this request.
Halo Reach needs its own version of Forza3 painting tools. I want full body spartan armor tatoos! I know Bungie didn't want to give people the opportunity to create obscene images, but I was curious how Forza manages to keep things on the down low.

MS announced?

We've already had that confirmed with Brian in this thread and I think it's been mentioned in a few other places and considering last week and this week, it's obvious they are dishing out the features in the run up to the Beta. Suppose it's nice to have concrete confirmation.

I also wouldn't be surprised if, each week, a different website gets the one day exclusive on the week's information. It's a nice, subtle marketing approach that works out well.

So... Downloadable armor permutations? :)

Thats my one worry with this system. Paying for virtual armour is something I dont want to do :(

It may just be me, but I dont see this system having much variety, it seems like you change very small (almost unnotticable) parts of armour at a time - I just hope we can change the whole helmet in one go etc

I do love this new challenge system, and I wonder how the actual rank system works, so far they havent really shown us how credits and commendations intersect with the military rank shown.

That G4TV video wont work for me, is there any other alternative download links?

Save yourself the bother and stick with the article and pictures. The two talking heads just repeat the article's content as a heavily one sided conversation. It adds nothing new to the information pool.

The ODST game disc will be required in order to launch the Reach multiplayer beta and it will launch directly from the EXTRAS menu. By Design. Won't Fix. Sorry.

Will there be stupid censorship ('ass' in 'Neutral Assault' for example) again this time, or have you guys understood a mature audience (ESRB: M / PEGI: 16+ I'm guessing) doesn't care about such "obscenities" ?

I'm still wondering if Bungie or Microsoft are going to comment on the beta codes that the "loyal" Halo 2 players are going to be receiving. I think people would like to know exactly when they are getting their codes and if they can be used to download the beta early.

This far out from the Halo 3 beta in Halo 3's developer cycle, did we know about any of the maps that were going to be featured? I don't quite remember.

I completely disagree with MTV. Halo GAMEPLAY is the REAL carrot to get people playing, all this other stuff is just icing on the cake. I mean, Halo 3 gameplay ALONE kept the game as number 1 for 2009.

Agreed, When I reach the highest level on CoD games im all but done, with Halo years later im still playing.

Just too clarify in the space of time ive bored of 3 CoD games ive carried on playing 1 Halo game.

Bravo Bungie.

P.S Dani thanks for the info, I cant see the images either though :(

Last time we had info in November 2006. Swedish magazine LEVEL was the first to spill the beans IIRC. That's where the Man Cannon, Shield Doors, Spartan Laser, and tons of other things were revealed, along with some info/screens on the three beta maps.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/27/halo-3-info-leaked-in-portuguese-from-swedish/

Heck, the scans were online in 2006 (posting 3.5 year old scans is alright, right? :lol:lol)

Good deal.

And are you telling me Bnet will have a graph of the cR I earn over time? :D

Either way, Bnet does some great stuff with Firefight, can't wait wait to see what they have in store for Reach.

It's been stated that the Halo 2 codes will give you access on May 3rd, so Halo 2 code players will be getting access with the ODST disc folks. No early F&F access with them.

The reward arc in Reach will be balanced taking this sort of behavior in mind.

Thank god.

Some of those achievements/challenges in Halo 3 were ridiculous. Not everyone can get that good over time (see, me).

I don't mind the actual achievements, I just hated that the hardest ones were restricted to Ranked.

Still, though this new info concerning credits and the like is amazing.

Fuck I'm going to love the shit out of this game.

2 copies being purchased confirmed. CE and regular. Liek all my Halo games, CE to stay sealed, Regular for usage. BAM!

I totally forgot about this. I expect the Bnet integration to be even better than what it already is.

Might I have a link to this statement please? I just haven't really seen anything said about those codes at all.

im not putting shit on my base helmet

why would i spend cr to increase my hit box for the enemy?

So we buy stuff for our Spartan's with cR, but the stuff wont give us any advantages in MP, they are merely visual...

But changing hitboxes to match custom upgrades, does that take away from the 'level playing field' that we all love Halo for?

Or is that acceptable? On that note did hitboxes change in Halo 3 this way?
