Yes, and that is why Bungie has introduced the alternate EMP function of the grenade launcher and the plasma launcher. I think by introducing those two it balances the game better and can leave the laser just how it was.
Uhh, I fail to see how that supports your argument. By adding more anti-vehicle opportunities to the sandbox while maintaining the laser as superpowered push-to-win weapon that just makes vehicles more or a death trap. If anything these new anti-vehicle measures only further eliminate the necessity of the laser in the sandbox.

Judging by Brian's statement that he hasn't even held the laser in Reach the best I can hope for is that they only throw it out there in extremely rare occasions and on a very limited amount of maps. Still I'd find that less than ideal because I'd rather it be nerfed and vary up the sandbox by being in play more often rather than it just being a weapon that pops up once or twice a map to obliterate vehicles without risk or warning.

Halo 3's vehicle gameplay was leaps and bounds above CE and 2. It is one of the few things that I'd say the majority of people here would agree they did better in 3 than any other Halo game. That said the laser is the most glaring flaw in the vehicle sandbox and if wasn't for the following I would avoid Halo 3's BTB:BTB is one of the few BR start playlists, I rarely ever have to play competitive BTB matches (where the laser is exploited to no end) because MM matches us up against pretty bad players, and the chopper is one of the most fun components of the Halo sandbox.

With Reach they're carrying over this flawed weapon, the most interesting vehicle is no longer in the sandbox (hopefully its role replicated with another vehicle or new vehicles fill a different role equally as fun), and I'll be able to spawn with at least a competent pistol in almost every playlist. All of this has really dampened my enthusiasm for Reach BTB which is a shame. Luckily things like the laser and the vehicle sandbox won't affect smaller games so I'll be able to turn to them if BTB disappoints.

Then why even put vehicles in the game, if they are all neutralized.
Intriguing, isn't it?

I think I'll dedicate most of my beta time to driving past everybody's futile attempts to destroy my warthog, regardless of how many anti-vehicle weapons they may have (although I suppose I should start sobering up now if I want to be successful...).

Well, that, and killing big ander with needles.

Argument? I am not arguing, just stating my opinion. :D I think it does support what I was saying though because it balances out the instance where a team snags the laser and then gets in a vehicle, the other team will have other options to take out that vehicle.

I think in the end it will all balance out but regardless it is Halo and not everyone will be happy. :lol

You're just jealous that you won't be in your invincibility chopper anymore, while the righteous anti-vehicle crusade will continue to carry on. Man, in Halo 3 you didn't even need armour lock when you were in a chopper. This will even the playing field to us non-vehiclepros.

Have they discussed yet if the vehicles have been changed in this game? They really need to be weakened a ton from Halo 3. Also, have they also discussed the reasoning behind them not increasing the player speed. I understand that there's a speed armor thing, but they need to go beyond that. It's absurd how slow Halo 3 feels compared to other games. I don't want something that resembles Quake, but it needs to see some changes there. Also, the laser should not exist in Halo. They get rid of the CE pistol and BR but keep that piece of crap in there? WHAT

Choppers are such fun in Halo 3 even when you're flailing around like a madman trying to stabilize it :lol

Taking out a EazyB-style chopper requires more than just proper equipment. It requires teamwork. If EazyB is dominating your team with a chopper its because he's using it to its fullest extent and capitalizing on your failure to communicate.

I think you guys misunderstand - a vehicle is meant to dominate a team that sends its players towards it one after another. Vehicles are supposed to highlight the teamwork aspect of the game, and EazyB is able to capitalize on it not because of the chopper or that his style of play is cheap but because the other team is horribly failing to take him down.

The laser gives a single player the power to de-construct what vehicles are meant to do - encourage teamwork.

Ah, saw it from a distance, thought it was armor degradation showing dirt on his feet to knees. The bottom is a solid color, not a dirtied up red. Sadface.

I had mentioned a good few pages saying how it looked like a jersey system whereby the arms and legs can be some colour but the chest area is the team colour.

looks more like dirt to me, the longer you stay alive the more deformed/ dirtier your armour gets?

Or its just a FFA / Campaign spartan with custom coloring similar to a red team / blue team setup.

Yeah, although I wonder if it's only for select armor pieces.

Or are they really bringing Black back? Dun dun dun.
Im hoping for its only for arms and legs, I just think there will be too many people doing black everything if it was for body armor.

When turned on most of your armor changes color to the other team?
black is the secondary color.
and I doubt that black will be a usable for your main color.

Just got home and read the interview. Good stuff. I'm pretty psyched to hear that there seem to be several new vehicles on the way. Reading the description of some of the new weapons, they don't sound that interesting to me but it's hard to say without actually using them. I'm looking forward to using some of the new weapons in the beta.

1. an oral disagreement; verbal opposition; contention; altercation: a violent argument.
2. a discussion involving differing points of view; debate: They were deeply involved in an argument about inflation.
3. a process of reasoning; series of reasons: I couldn't follow his argument.
4. a statement, reason, or fact for or against a point: This is a strong argument in favor of her theory.

While one aspect of laser-whoring would indeed be remedied if the other anti-vehicle tools were as potent as the laser, it would turn lasers into moving multi-kills and destroy that chunk of the sandbox like Dirtbag said. You're not really suggesting that as a viable option, right?

:lol There's a reason everyone doesn't have a chopper as their #1 tool of destruction in BTB. It's really tough to use effectively, more so than almost any other vehicle in Halo, and there are a plethora of ways to take it down even without the laser. Actually the chopper (and maybe ghost) are the most vulnerable to the missile pod as they have to be facing/traveling the same direction they're firing.

How about this, we jump into Halo 3, I'll give you a chopper we'll see how long it take for me to get you out of it.

And actually, save driving the chopper, my favorite thing to do in BTB is vehicle hunting. Is it because I can pick up a laser and blast away any vehicle anywhere on the map with the laser? Not at all, actually the laser makes vehicle hunting less fun for me. I enjoyed how dangerous a vehicle can be in Halo 3 and how skilled, patient, and creative I have to be to get myself in a position to destroy it. The satisfaction of sticking a hog from 50 meters away or draining an incoming banshee and stealing it is BTB at its finest for me. When I have the laser on my team the vehicles as reduced insignificant objects waiting to be obliterated with an unsatisfying pull of the trigger.

The visor thing on his helmet is also black. Which is what led me to think its the secondary color.

I'm liking how the grenade launcher combines elements of the rocket launcher, power drain and the trip mine. It's going to be a lovely anti-vehicle tool. Long-range Banshee take downs are going to happen at my hand, and they will be glorious.

Defining the word argument when you clearly knew the context I was using it in and that I was joking...seriously? Douche move, again kidding. Thought I would put it out there if you didn't pick up on the sarcasm. :lol

Again I just didn't see a huge problem with the laser at all, good drivers can use the terrain to their advantage to avoid laser shots and other weaponry. I think the other anti-vehicle weapons they are introducing are good because it offers different options and forms of play. It is not like they are going to put all of them on the same map, I think by adding them to the mix you will see the laser less rampant in MP and that will satisfy a lot of players who complain about the weapon.

*sigh*
The color on the helmet in halo 3 was the secondary color (also on the shoulder pads) and black was not a color for halo 3 (it was ODST). Which is why I think the black on the armor is just the secondary color.

anyways this is a dumb conversation so I'm done with it now.

I would imagine Bungie has tons and tons of data from Halo 3 to make determinations about the sandbox. Of that data, I am sure they looked at the subset involving the laser. After analyzing said data, they came to the conclusion that it was pretty much good to go for Reach.

I'll hazard a guess and say that the Splaser will not be as prominent in large gametypes as in Halo 3.

I'm thinking the plasma launcher will be pretty common, and the Laser will be the rare, ultimate commodity.

I get what you are saying, but I'm just pointing out that the visor was the wrong piece to use to talk about the rest of the spartan since even in Halo3 we had black helmet parts.
I was more intrigued by the fading aspect of the legs, like someone pointed out might be a cool burn effect or battle degradation

Someone at Bungie also made "Cortana" a campaign level, and someone also thought the spiker rifle was worth placing around a MP map.

TBF, the Spiker was a beast in the Beta and was nerfed for some reason.

It took ODST before I ever really bothered with it.
I also remember an even stronger then what we have now splazer. That thing had an even faster charge up period in the beta **shudders**

Bungie transmits loads of data about each match. Weapon usage, where you die, where you kill, etc. They could probably run a script over the entire set of games and see if laser usage has an out of whack correlation to victory. Out of whack accuracy numbers, etc. Anything really.

Laser is an important item. You could just as easily see that the people who had the most sniper kills on guardian usually win too.

You assume plenty.
They could do everything you just said and more, and it could ultimately be one guys call at the end of all your data-farming. Its going to come down to one person's final say on the matter and you assume he is always right. Data doesn't lie, but it still needs to be interpreted.

I like the idea of the lazer, but its execution unbalances my idea of the game.

Eh they would have tweaked Standoff then, that is the only map were laser dominance is really noticeable. I rush for it at the start every time on that map.

Oh, absolutely guys. Just saying that data is a very powerful tool at their disposal when deciding things. They have a lot of information at their fingertips, and running some statistical analysis on that data would be a very informative thing. But, as you guys say, it could just be that one very powerful person at Bungie likes it :)

How could they possibly collect data that would give them insight into how detrimental the laser is to the sandbox at high levels of play? It has to be seen/felt first hand and I'm afraid Bungie just doesn't get to experience these sorts of matches enough to realize what's so apparent to many others.

This is funny because one of the things that constituted good design, according to Jamie Griesemer is not getting too attached to an idea, because if you get too attached you don't see the flaws in it. :lol

Honestly guys, has anyone on here considered the reality that we are about to have the same lazer weapon in the hands of a sprinting or fucking jetpacking spartan
Can you not see the ramifications of that?
