Um, custom game searching was considered for Halo 3 but was ultimately dropped because they have matchmaking.xDangerboy said:yeah okay. Considering we went from Halo 2 to 3 with no answer to this exact question. So your Assuming it automatically change this time around? Ill believe it when they tell me so.

MagniHarvald said:I had three main problems with Halo 3 Objective play upon release:
Issue 1 has been fixed with loadouts.
- AR starts only.
- Bland maps compared to previous games.
- Shitty map/gametype pairing.
Issue 2 I hope won't be an issue this time around. Quality has improved with each map pack IMO (Orbital can be forgotten), so there's hope :lol
Issue 3 better not be an issue. I do not want to have to put up with this in Reach again:
3v3 AR starts 1 Flag on Valhalla is NOT fun, I don't want to play the equivalent in Reach at launch. This type of gametype/map mismatch happened way too often in Halo 3.
What the hell dude. You said that Bungie went from 2-3 "with no answer to this exact question," and I went ahead and corrected you and gave Bungie's reasoning: they have matchmaking, so they dropped the custom games search. I wasn't trying to make a "point."xDangerboy said:Which does not serve the purpose of finding fun games that are outside the realm of Default gametypes (action sack is way too lacking to be counted imo). What point are you trying to make?

The thought of Reach having as many glitches as MW2 makes me cringe LOL
Achronos addressed this on HBO a few years ago. (Custom searches was planned for Halo 3 but removed before release; I'm guessing this was the reason why.)xDangerboy said:yeah okay. http://forums.bungie.org/halo/archive29.pl?read=858957That's becaue standard server browsers don't work, and you aren't very observant if you think that they have been working. Step back and think about it. How many times have you looked a server list in a game, and couldn't find a fast server, with open slots, that let you play a game you want? How many times have you hit "join" and then been told that the server was full? How about if the host quits - who do you migrate to? What if doesn't want to play that game? What if the host is losing, and boots you to make things easier? And how many times have you gone into a game, thinking it was one type or map config, and then found out that it had been altered in an unpleasant way?
To put it in perspective of Halo - how many times has some jackass come into your forge session you forgot to close and screwed up hours of your work?
Now, before you say, "But, Achronos, my friends won't do that to me" remember that I'm talking about a server browser used for general users to join. You already essentially have one for your friends list... and their friends list too, using the friends of friends feature. Adding in anonymous custom game searching makes the above common place, where right now it is just your friends messing with you.
Server browsers are not the solution. Matchmaking playlists are really the best compromise for anonymous game gathering. Maybe for future games we make we'll try something different or alter our approach. But for now, this is the best we have in terms of game matching.

Pete Rock said:I am also primarily interested in the custom game treatment for Reach. In Halo 3 that was the big sore spot for me, I'd love to see people be able to connect with random individuals to play custom games that are so well built no honor rules are required for smooth functioning. I don't want to fill up my friends list and an alt silver account just to run a group for a custom gametype, I just want to come home fire up the game and play
GhaleonEB said:I'm not sure what the solution is, but I don't see the experience being enjoyable.
Please explainNickiepoo said:Resistance 2 is why I never want to have to deal with custom game lobbies for a popular console game ever again.
Great observation. The level of detail across the board is really remarkable. It's always been high in Halo games, but Reach seems to be pushing it even further.Letters said:Small thing, but I like how the markers wrap around the characters, really neat effect
I think this is the effect urk was talking about on a past update, when he said if you put hill on an area with water, the edges of the marker would move on top of the waves without clipping the water.
Wat?xDangerboy said:If the reasoning is that they have matchmaking, then matchmaking needs to have a robust community driven playlist that integrates with recent players list through the active roster that makes it extremely simple to create custom games.
There could very well be a 'Classic' playlist that sets a default starting weapon and features no AA but for the most part I believe at the very least you would have to pick a starting weapon and AA yourselfDeputy Moonman said:Okay I think the full magnitude of what Load-outs will do for Reach has finally hit me in the face. Will it be in every play-list or just specific ones? If I'm understanding correctly, we no longer have to be at the mercy of a game type deciding what our default starting weapons will be? I know that there will be different load-out options for different games, but we'll still have some choices right? That really pleases me in ways that you can't imagine.:lol

Seriously.
Go play Halo 2 on the PC. That shizzle doesn't settle right on a console. Achronos' point was valid wheter they tested it internally or not Those problems would occur. Sit back and perhaps realise that what you are looking for =/= what they are trying to do.
It's called custom games. You won't earn anything in that. If you would be assembling people from the recent players list (unless you want to have a specific one for custom games only), you would be including players on XBL who may never play custom games. Seriously, I see no difference in what you need and what you have in Halo 3. You said you wanted to gather them from the playlist. Grand... but couldn't you do that anyway??xDangerboy said:You quoted the wrong paragraph to make your point. If you didnt, I don't see whats so crazy about what I said.
Why not have a strong community driven playlist that doesnt reward cR and Commendations? And why not integrate recent players into the active roster that makes it easy to gather people from the playlist to play custom games?
Never noticed this before. Subtle but beautiful.Letters said:Small thing, but I like how the markers wrap around the characters, really neat effect

and boom goes the dynamite!ManCannon said:Earlier in the project there were discussions and some playtests done around supporting slightly larger player counts for some specific gametypes that were being prototyped. At the time it was believed that would carry over into something that shipped in the final game but ultimately it didn't work out as planned (for far too many reasons to get into). Reach will continue to support a maximum total of 16 players.
That's cool. Does the netcode in Reach handles 16 players better than Halo 3 does?ManCannon said:Earlier in the project there were discussions and some playtests done around supporting slightly larger player counts for some specific gametypes that were being prototyped.
