Yeah that seems about right. Either way the next few weeks are going to be full of hype :D

Also anyone here want to play some Halo 2 customs or matchmaking?

I'll be home in 20 minutes if you want to play.

I don't remember that. I'm just guessing based on how things are building up.

Bungie started the reveal train far away from the actual gameplay of Reach, and has been slowly zeroing in since. The reveals to date, in order, with the last two my guesses

  • Social Features
  • Player Investment
  • Weapons, Vehicles, Armor Abilities (and sandbox in general)
  • Maps
  • Gametypes
  • Playlist and final feature set

Seems like a natural flow from high-level down to nittgy gritty. But who knows. That's part of the fun. (Sort of like waiting for the the information itself. Some of you guys really need to just relax and let the good times roll. Everything will come soon enough.)

I much prefer this approach to the "Map reveal 8 months before beta, big info drop right before it" approach of Halo 3. Of course it helps that the changes to reach are far more dramatic than those from Halo 2 to Halo 3. I also appreciate knowing when I need to start f5ing the thread ;).

The other great part of this system is that we don't have to deal with rediculous webcam/cellphone/blurry pic leaks. This way we get higher quality info, no "sword points up like a DICK" and a chance to get our questions answered in a meaningful way.

I'm very pleased with the current release of information. I also greatly appreciate all of the clarification we have been getting.

The clarification has been amazing. Glad Bungie understands that most gaming media usually likes to post more speculation than facts. Been great to have Bungie clear it all up at the end of each week for us.

Best part of it is Luke, Urk, and Brian coming in here and clarifying things.

That's one of the reasons I love neoGAF. Developers and others involved with the games come and post here.
It's a good and bad thing. I remember I was following a game called Vanguard, and the developers kept posting new information on a guild forum rather than the official site. It was pretty lame. As long as anything that gets posted here winds up on Bungie's site, it's all good :D

Are you using the VGA cable? Thats what caused me problems and I had to get a friend to tell me what to do while I didnt have a screen :lol

Perhaps someone could walk you through downloading the maps step by step? Its likely your just missing a option somewhere?

Are you serious? =\

Dani said:
You can discount my site from that list. No chance of an exclusive map reveal ever appearing. :lol

Make it happen Bungie =P

Yep for some stupid reason Halo 2 works with a VGA cable, but you literally cannot access the content download manager when using it. So I had to unplug my VGA cable and ask a friend to walk me through the motions of downloading the maps while my screen was blank :lol

It sucked but I had no other way of doing it.

Nothing like having Sketch or Urk come in and just stop the speculating and tell us what's up.
Agree. Love having them around to set the place straight.

Sometimes it's a double-edged sword, though. Knowing what's on tap for this week has led to endless begging for more information on what, when, where the info is coming from. Sometimes it's better to be blindsided. :D

Speculation:

That Green area with the generator serves as an approach to Powerhouse during Invasion games; since that really looks like Powerhouse in the distance, even with the criss crossing walkways. In standard MP modes, we just plain in the main structure, but in invasion it extends out farther giving a hard fought approach to the building. Maybe it's even a seperate map that's playable outside of the context of invasion that can be "Snapped" to powerhouse for Invasion.

Maps are like voltron, the more you have at once, the more fun it becomes!
I think I'm reading this right, but multi-area maps like in Team Fortress 2 would be super awesome!

Faster than a speeding bullet...

...and nowhere near as deadly!

Josh "EnsnaredCadaver" Hardy was featured in Guinness World Records 2010: Gamers Edition for his Pacifist speed run on Floodgate. Don't believe it? Bam:

High Speed Halo has just received word that another of our speed runners has been featured in the Guinness World Records 2010: Gamers Edition for his Pacifist speed run on Floodgate. Halo 3 Pacifist is a speed run of a single Halo 3 Campaign Mission played on Legendary where you may not fire any weapons including the Energy Sword and Gravity Hammer, not use Grenades or Equipment, not melee (including unintentional melees), and must not die. In other words, you do nothing but run. Excerpt from the Guinness World Records 2010: Gamers Edition, Console FPS section, top of page 49: "4 MIN 15 SEC... the time it took Josh "EnsnaredCadaver" Hardy (USA), to complete Halo 3 level Floodgate without killing any enemies - the fastest "pacifist" Halo 3 speed run."

be sure to check out the youtube video when you get home

So I was thinking about something. Will we get a medal for assists? ODST had them. And to take it a step further... Now that health only restores fully with health packs, if you damage someones health (as opposed to just damaging their shield) and a minute later they fall to someone elses hands will you get an assist?

That's awesome! Nice job HIH.

I'm honestly hoping that Bungie just straight-up rips off Killzone 2 for Invasion mode, so that objectives constantly shift over the course of one, seamless game.

Like, standard search and destroy for the first piece, just annihilate the generators to bring down the shield doors, allowing the attacking team to bring in their vehicles.

Then you shift immediately to the next objective, which would be like territories or land grab...securing the 'landing zone' for a certain amount of time that brings in the phantom with new weapon loadouts, reinforcements (if respawns are somehow limited) and bomb...which shifts the objective to 1bomb.

hey guys we might have a slight issue for the Halo 2 customs tomorrow, since we cant just invite random people, one of us needs to make a clan so we can invite people with out adding them onto our friends list. Anyone want to make it or just have me make one since im on now at the moment.

I don't know. Killzone's way of doing multiplayer was pretty damn cool. If only the bullet spread wasn't so significant, it would be a lot better.

Customs aren't tomorrow, they're next Wednesday.

I'm pretty sure Urk said there are 4 levels in the bomb trailer. I think it went something like this:

*Dani posts 4 levels on forwarduntodawn*
*Urk says two of the posted levels are the same*
*Dani asks Urk if there are indeed only 3 levels in the trailer*
*Urk says no, there are 4, with a :D face*

I think Gaf is pretty well linked, have a couple of members as friends and your sorted lol, I dont think we need to make a clan, we should be able to all get into customs together.

My idea about grouping off into 4's and then playing matchmaking still stands. If we play the same playlist at least were garunteed a game. It will also be nice to have a Gaf winner for the secret Reach prize.

P.S throwback was up just 2 hours ago, this is weird. Hopefully they are just renaming it to Objective so more players know what it is and play it? I doubt this is the case, but gotta pray!

I dont know, I think there will be a decent amount of people flooding in next week.

How was this mode scored? Progress to the objective gained a higher score, then the roles flipped?

Yeah, I'm on too. All the discussion on Gaf about objective had me pumped for some throwback. Oh well. Why isn't it up?
I'm guessing it was yanked due to the low population. On the playlist page, it's listed as the Double XP Weekend that starts on the 15th of April, rather than its normal listing. Looks like it's being rotated into that cycle due to declining Halo 3 populations and that playlist in particular.

Though, there's no note on b.net about it, which will hopefully be incoming.

I hope so, but its not like Halo 2's death has been publizised much. The people on Halo websites or communities (Like HaloGaf) will know about it, but the average xbox gamer wont.

Infact even friends that knew Halo 2 was going down didnt know that there would be a prize for being in the last game. I really dont think more than maybe 50 people tops will know about next wednesday and feel nostalgic enough to play.

50 people spread over 8 playlists doesnt really help matchmaking much.

Edit: I'm late. Yep, t'was population killed the beast.

Throwback's gametypes have been integrated into Social Skirmish, and Skirm is now a 4v4 hopper. Throwback will alternate with Mythic Brawl as the ranked double exp weekend of the month.

Why wouldn't you try a Throwback double exp weekend before yanking the playlist?

There goes the only 4v4 Objective playlist with BRs outside of MLG. Shishka continues to knock the ball out of the park.

Dang, Skirmish is now 4 on 4? =\

Not surprised about Throwback. Hopped on last night and had a dreadful experience. It never found it's proper audience. I might be more inclined to hop on during the DXP though.

I can bet you there will be more than just 50 people playing next week, i mean there are like 400 people playing right now.

Edit: you can see the number of people playing right now. LINK

FISTPUMP :lol - I await the day social slayer is returned to 4v4, its probably not a popular opinion but I really do think 5v5 is too much on even some of the mid sized maps.

Sad at Throwbacks loss, but Skirmish is the new throwback so win/ win. Hopefully this doesnt lead to matches with quitters though.

Sorry I meant to say an increase of 50 people, more people will play next week, but as I said I doubt many more will know about it.

Even if it was an increase of 100 people, 500 people in matchmaking would be weak and matchmaking will be SLOW. I really do think its best to get a bunch of gaffers, split them into equal teams and enter the same playlist - more likely to get games.

Any word on what is required to get the prize? Last game or last kill?
