Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

I prefer 4v4 personally, I really wish Social Slayer was 4v4. To be honest though I could not find motivation to try rank up in Throwback anyway, its always a shame to loose playlists hopefully throwback will be replaced with something more successful.

Sorry I meant to say an increase of 50 people, more people will play next week, but as I said I doubt many more will know about it.

Even if it was an increase of 100 people, 500 people in matchmaking would be weak and matchmaking will be SLOW. I really do think its best to get a bunch of gaffers, split them into equal teams and enter the same playlist - more likely to get games.

Any word on what is required to get the prize? Last game or last kill?
Ok, when are we going to start making the groups then?

Also Im pretty sure the prize is for guessing the last game ID and also being in the last game too.

It sucks that only us 2 are discussing this :lol - would be good to try and get this off the ground. At the moment it seems like Gaf is only doing customs on Wednesday?

Edit: I'm late. Yep, t'was population killed the beast.

Throwback's gametypes have been integrated into Social Skirmish, and Skirm is now a 4v4 hopper. Throwback will alternate with Mythic Brawl as the ranked double exp weekend of the month.

Hehe wow, Thermite, Nutter and I were just talking about having Social Skirmish removed and Team Throwback moved into Social as "Social Throwback" a few days ago. Looks like something close to that just happened, sweet. And 4v4 is good.

Questions:

Are the starting weapons for Social Skirmish still the same (AR/Pistol) or is it Team Throwback's starting weapons (BR/AR)?

and

What happened to Team Flag? Is it ever coming back or has Team Throwback DBLEXP replaced it?

im sure when the custom night gets closer we will see more people discuss this :lol

I honestly think we should do more than one custom, I mean 1 day for customs and one for matchmaking doesn't seem right since we are near out last week of this game.

Agreed, unfortunatly Halo 2's death is right in the middle of my exam period. Im really only planning to try and sneak in, be in the last matchmade game and get the prize. Of course I will come to customs though.

I seriously cannot wait to see what kinds of glitches people can come up with in the Beta. Question: if there is a game-breaking glitch, can betas get 'patched' via XBL auto-update? Or do they stay just as they are?

Betas can be patched so I assume if there is a glitch it will get patched

That would be amazing, if we can plan for what time Halo 2 dies we could easily set this up. Enlighten us MS/ Bungie, what time are the servers going offline?

The glitch would need to be pretty major to warrant a patch.

From the little I know about dealing with updates/patches it takes a long time to have something approved by MS. I think unless it literally crashed the game they would not patch something. There was the glitch in the Halo 3 beta that allowed players to escape out of the back of Valhalla with banshees, and that was not patched.

Social Skirmish has Throwback's games built into it. So it's AR starts or BR starts depending on the gametype.

What happened to Team Flag? Is it ever coming back or has Team Throwback DBLEXP replaced it?

Population-wise, it was never the most popular of 2EXP weekends. Throwback will be the ranked team objective playlist for a while. When we see how its pop as a weekend playlist pans out, I'll make the call as to if we should swap Team Flag in with it or not.

Flag's original purpose was to sooth the pain of there not being a full time ranked objective playlist. A pain I've been forcefully reminded most people don't seem to experience.

Yeah if we know that, we pretty much have a straight shot for the final game.

Well yeah unless its truly game breaking it usually doesn't receive a patch.

Cool. I'd rather have DEXP throwback than Flag anyway.

Awesome. Social Skirmish finally has some BR starts gametypes. Looks like it's the de-facto playlist for me now. :)

Hopefully Throwback being DBLEXP gives it a much-needed population boost.

What's a... 'flag'? No doubt crunchUK will freak out over in Optimatch on bnet about this new loss.

Actually, I wonder what Havok engines (if that is the right term) are being used in Reach.

I be 'borrowing' my university's copy of Halo 2 for the week :p Screw what I said yesterday. I have spent months playing that game to death in System Link! I have the map disc with Relic, Containment, Turf, Relic and Terminal but as far as I know there will be 2 ones I will have never played before. With this new update for the 360, can we move those saved files from usb to a computer and in turn copy and email them? Or do I know even less about teh compooters than I thought?

Are you sure about that? Not trying to say I do not believe you, I would just like to know where you heard this.
Bungie mentioned it either on b.net or in interviews after the Beta closed.

I remember it being patched at least once.
See I don't remember - I didn't play the beta every day, and it was in the middle of a trip to Hawaii, so there was entirely too much going on at one time.

Because of MS's rigid approval process for patches, I could see it being difficult for a patch to be created and effectively rolled out in a 2 week beta, unless they rushed it.

I don't remember there being a patch, but I could very well be wrong - hence why I asked. In the H3 beta there was the banshee glitch and the custom games lobby glitch, that were never patched.

Edit: How long will the beta last?

Sorry is this is a repeat but this thread moves fast and I haven't been following.

Is there something special/significant going on with Halo 2 on its last day?

Yes, you will get something for Reach for playing Halo 2 on its last day and if you are in the last game you also get a prize.

Not too sure if it's last day only, they only said that you'd have to have played Halo 2 on the same account you'll use to play Reach to get an "emblem" of some kind.

Thanks. What time will the servers be shut down? I can't find a time anywhere.

How was this mode scored? Progress to the objective gained a higher score, then the roles flipped?

Point/EXP for each objective completed, then roles flipped.

The clarification has been amazing. Glad Bungie understands that most gaming media usually likes to post more speculation than facts. Been great to have Bungie clear it all up at the end of each week for us.

I dont actually mind speculation from websites when its a) clearly marked as speculation and b) done intelligently.

Obviously its better suited to features and editorials, but if an editorial were to look at the features in Halo Reach and then speculate on how they would work, how the gameplay we've come to know and love would change as a result of the new features, and then discussed whether or not said changes were actually positive or likely to work, that would make for an interesting article.

Granted, it would basically be a written podcast episode and totally late now that Bungie has unloaded so much info on the game, but could have been a cool article once upon a time.

I thought it was the last day only, im not 100% sure on it myself.

I thought it didn't matter if you played the last day except for that final game prize thing. Wasn't it if you had played Halo 2 with your current gamertag you would get an emblem beside your name in Reach possibly?

The various trailer analysis' did speculate in that direction to an extent. I was cooking up an article for my site but scrapped it whenever I discovered it would be outdated speculation already covered by some awesome folks in videos and across a few articles in other places.

The main problem being the trailer wasn't much to go on, it was like shooting in the dark and Bungie's reveal of the features for the Beta leave little room for speculation as they've gone out of their way to bring folks up to speed.

I'm hoping, post Beta, the marketing turns towards Reach Campaign swiftly, we need a really good ARG or even an ODST-esque trail. And by need, I mean I want.

It really sucks to see Team Throwback get taken down, but I guess it's not totally unexpected. The population rarely, if ever, got above 1,200 people. Goddamn you general Halo population for not playing more Throwback.. :(

I believe he's referring to Team Flag, which is a double XP weekend playlist that's been up a few times. It's 5v5, always Flag based gametypes, and every match is BR starts. One of the best playlists ever, imo.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There were frame by frame trailer analyses up within hours of the multiplayer vidoc.

One site...that apparently isn't to be mentioned on this site...did a good article. It was a feature, not presented as news, and the point wasnt to try and pick apart the trailer for little details, it was to look at the big obvious things like the jetpacks and argue over how they would change the gameplay, for the better or the worse.

But again, it was basically a written podcast. Would have been better as audio.

If you have half of Skirmish gametypes start with ARs and the other half start with BRs, why wouldn't you get rid of half the options and make it universal AR/BR starts?

Gotta re-learn the Magnum, bro.

Agreed. Perfect starting combo.

And I hope there's at least one AR/DMR loadout in Reach. It doesn't even need to have an armor ability.

No word yet. I don't think it will return, though. Didn't really have a "role" in the sandbox outside of campaign.

Nothing so far. I don't even think they've talked about any of the 3rd person guns.

Edit: beaten

Aww it does say last kill gets the prize, I think ill pass on trying for that one, getting into the final game will be hard enough! I really should be sleeping and revising :lol

I definitely saw it in some press release that wasn't supposed to go out awhile back, pretty sure it was linked to on GAF. I remember thinking... they haven't even announced this one yet, oh well. I wasn't too thrilled seeing it either - there was some slight remodeling in similar fashion like the rocket launcher, but overall it was the same exact thing.
