Wow. Sonerds are in full-force in this thread.

I'm excited about the PS3 but only because I can support strong support from some awesome developers. Some of you that expect it to be some technological marvel and are ignoring Kiziko need to get your head out of the clouds. It will be very impressive, but nothing life-altering.

So, you worked on a dev kit today and can assure all of us that everything in this article is correct or is it only the choice tidbits like "PS3 is more powerful" that are actually correct?
 
Since Sega doesnt make hardware anymore so which console is this guy biased about then??? if you were saying that he was an xbot i would understand......

Although the article reasserts some assumptions I've had since the revealing of both, I think I'll hold off on seeing both in action before I make any decisions.

I say the difference will be Virtual Boy <> DS, or Sega CD <> UMD movies

But regardless of how I try to create this image in the reader's mind, the fact remains that there will be hundreds of nearly identical games released across these platforms.

Everything seems correct to me? As a gamer.

I mean, Kikizo went a bit overboard reassuring Xbox fans like yourself that you wont be left behind - at least not too far, but I don't see what you're gunning for....

A misleading title to an article which is basically just 4.5 pages of waffle. Not a hands-on of a PS3 at all, it's hands on with an unfinished dev kit and a standard USB controller. This, coupled with the fact talk of games is disallowed makes this a non-article. Not impressed at all.
 
One memorable point in another game build altogether observed some intense character based interactivity. Finally being able to control on a PS3 the sort of visual quality we realistically expect, with convincing and varied human facial expression, did feel like a moment of relief - this stuff is realtime after all. We had lighting effects and specular highlights used to great effect, shadows forming realistically on wrinkles of skin, precise colours, ultra-detailed rippling materials (though the ripple needed some work) - and that's not even talking about the surrounding environment, which had its own moving objects and particle elements. As far as "emotionally believable" experiences go, this moment was more solid than we've experienced in a past generation title. It was nothing we couldn't imagine running to the same sort of effect on Xbox 360, but it was reassuring to see it in genuine realtime and with some developer perseverance, a few required improvements seem within reach.

I don't expect anything resembling a generational leap between the PS3 and 360. I expect the difference in power to be significant, but I also anticipate completely diminishing returns when it comes to what actually gets pumped out to your TV set.

There's gonna be fucking REVOLUTION games with visuals that will wow you, and it has fucking gutless hardware in comparison. This generation will be about art and cinematic direction, not whether or not Feature X > Feature Y. What one console can do brute force, another will be able to reasonably fake behind the scenes. We're not talking about a DS to PSP feature delta here. We're just talking about raw numbers on a rapidly plateauing curve.

To be fair the the guy said that the Xbox had a host of effects built into the hardware that were a generational leap above the PS2. A little more specific than saying all facets of the Xbox hardware were next gen in comparison to the PS2. From my experience of owning both machines, I would agree with what the guy said.

I am a fan of the truth. And until someone from Sony or somewhere else refutes this article, we are left to wonder. I believe nothing in this article. I will gladly ignore it when Sony or someone with first-hand knowledge of the current dev kit proves the article to be old or false.
 
That feature isn't bad, but the hype that preceded it was uncalled for. There isn't much info in there that hasn't already been stated, and I was expecting more concrete details about things like the controller which were pretty much absent. Story itself? B-. Hype leading up to it? F. :)

No, it really doesn't sound like they did.

So no RSX, and not final hardware. It's not even close to being a hands-on with a PlayStation 3, and could be months old.

Nope they specifically mentioned tower which is the configuration the first dev kit with 2.4 GHz CELL, GeForce and 256MB RAM comes in.

What GeForce card was in the first dev kit? 68xx?

This is just the reference tool itself. It contains the RSX (which is very vital IMO). You can draw parallels to happened with the 360 when we were viewing builds on non final HW.

Do you have first hand knowledge that this article is months old, or are you guessing that since Sony put up those power point slides, all things must be on schedule and KiKizo is a few months behind?

Uh, maybe I'm going crazy? When I hear the word PS3 Reference Tool rack.... I'm thinking of something like a server rack, where multiple PS3 reference tools would slide into a large tower.

And that picture looks misleading when it comes to size. Exactly how big is the PS3 Reference Tool?

Some of these supporters in the US believe they will have a North American PS3 to play with in the Spring. No controller plus no finished hardware spounds disappointing.

Not really...alpha and beta kits were woefully underpowered in the 360 compared to final hardware. The fact of the matter is that the alpha and beta PS3's are far closer to final spec...less powerful to be sure, but not as dramatic as what MS had to endure.

a) Have a full rack of PS3 reference tools lying around

b) Call a rack a tower

Stop reaching.

These were builds shown some time ago on the first dev kits.

Just asking questions. Why don't you guys stop reaching? I'm not the one claiming I know exactly what version of the devkit that these guys saw. You guys are sounding desperate.

So what you are saying is, like me, you have no way of knowing if this is old or new, fact or fiction? If it is an inaccurate story, Sony should have an official comment on it to clear this up. This article will be on the Google News headline page very soon and will be read by many.
