Just got my shipping notification for the deluxe package! Getting fucking pumped.
Hopefully, the MP3 code gets sent soon. I want to listen nooowwww (and I've been avoiding the videos. I want to give the album a run through from beginning to end).
Halo on Fire is pretty good. Don't pay too much attention to the lyrics on this album even if you used to like me. It carries a certain St. Anger and Death Magnetic awkwardness that Metallica songs didn't used to have.
I think at the end of the day I'll prefer Death Magnetic, but such is life.

IMO this is the most "balanced" of all their albums, it has something for every kind of Metallica fan. And since I love almost all their albums (I don't like St anger, but I understand and respect it) I think it's fucking lit
Just heard 'Now that we're dead' (which was pretty decent BTW), and I'm trying to figure out why people have been mentioning Misfits regarding that song. It sounds nothing like Misfits.

Still, I don't think it's all that similar to Misfits. Misfits have always had a somewhat tongue in cheek approach to their lyrics, especially during the Graves and Only eras, while this isn't really the kind of deliberately cheesy stuff Misfits would write a song about Sure, there's that 'Zombie Girl' song, but it's still tongue in cheek cheesy fun.

Famous Monsters is a fine album. Not as good as American Psycho, but still good. I liked The Devil's Rain too. Only is a pretty decent vocalist as long as he sings songs written with his voice in mind (the re-recording of 'Descending Angel' with Jerry on vox is godawful).
I didn't even know there was less than 320 out there. Given how many times I've listened to this from front to back, my ears would have just packed up and moved out by now if was any less. That's some dedication!
My dog and I just got back from a long walk and are now listening to this fucking cranked. At Halo on Fire right now. Digging the shit out of this album. Sounds great. I like the production kind of having the rawness of Death Magnetic mixed with the quality of the Loads, without going full into that over-produced sound (don't get me wrong, I love the way those albums sound, too).
I officially have too much Metallica vinyl to fit on a single shelf:
Think I'm going to get a heavy duty wall mounted shelf just for the remastered box sets. Someday when they're all out I think I'll have them so the fronts face out. But, I'll figure that out in five or so years when they're done.
EDIT: Fuck me, that ending segment of Halo. Put it in me.

The original leak was like 128 made to mimic 320 or something like that (or so ive heard) and there's a huge noticeable difference between the original leak and the 320 version which was put up today.
Honestly it's giving me o-face

I haven't listened to much of Only 's stuff outside of the latest EP (which is solid, all things considered) and i can't get into it. I really enjoy Graves and Danzig era stuff but Only 's era in general feels parodic.
Really hope that Danzig and the guys are working on an album right now, Danzig, Doyle, Only and Lombardo of Slayer could put together some great shit despite their age. I also really liked Doyle's guitar work on his solo album.

Musically the Only-led version of the band is pretty similar to the Graves era, but I guess Jerry's voice is something you either like/find OK or dislike. Sort of like Blaze Bayley's tenure in Maiden. Lyrically it's not all that different, maybe a tad more cheese, but not too bad.
AFAIK Glenn said he wasn't interested in doing an album or any more shows than the reunion shows they already did, which is a bummer. That lineup would have been killer.
I checked out a few songs from Doyle's solo album, and just couldn't get into at all :/ Sounded too much like modern metal for me.

Spit out the Bone is so gnarly even though it's about some Matrix/Terminator shit, you can crush anything with it. Sounds like some late 80's/Cold War metal.

I guess its more similar (At least from the stuff that isn't Friday the 13th) to American Psycho than Famous Monsters imo and I appreciate the former and it has some songs I like but I guess i really enjoy the more "pop" ish sound of Famous Monsters, its lyrics, guitar work and importantly Graves vocal work which was definitely at its best on Famous Monsters and all of that comes together to make a really cool album while Only albums may have glimmers of some of those aspects but I never really feel that it reaches any of those heights. I do really like 2 songs off the EP though.
As for a new Misfits album, IIRC he said he was unsure, didn't give a hard no and said that if it happens he would have to write all the music, Only, Doyle and Lombardo said they were down to write a new album and apparently Graves is down to come back too if Danzig won't though I'm sure that would piss a lot of people off and I wouldn't be surprised if Only still had some bad blood from their split.
And on Doyle's new album, yeah I kinda agree there, but I guess there's also a certain charm about having a heavier horror rock album, especially when that style is largely dead and its got some good riffs that show Doyle's writing has really improved.
But having a Misfits album with Doyle and Lombardo on it is sure to be some really cool shit musically even with or without Danzig, but I don't really want Only to continue fronting it. He's not like, offensively terrible as far as skill goes, I just think there are much better routes they can go.
Still holding out hope for Danzig/Doyle/Lombardo/Only outfit

I'd say there's a much straighter line between Confusion and Disposable Heroes.
Speaking of which, after not loving it and calling it one of the weaker songs on the album.
Nah Confusion is great and so is ManUNkind.
This album is definitely going to be one that needs a few listens to fully appreciate and consume. Though the complaints about long run times and repetitive sections are completely warranted, this is an issue they've had since Ride the Lightning.

Well I mean, in the context of "The Thing That Should Not Be (This long)"
the answer is yes, the same goes for like, every song on AJFA aside from maybe One and Dyers Eve and after the "Die!" section of 'Creeping Death' and once 'Blackened' slows down I get bored and switch songs. Leper Messiah could be a bit shorter too, but outside of Thingy MoP is pretty inoffensive about it as is KeA and RTL but AJFA took it to new extremes, and then they brought it back for St.Anger,DM and HTSD.

New version of Lords of Summer is FANTASTIC!
Halo on Fire, Now That We're Dead and Moth Into Flame are my favorite songs of first disc. Haven't listened the tracks on the second disc enough to make a decision yet. But I REALLY dig this album. Maybe the best since Black Album.
The number one thing on my list of shit to get is the Sad But True single with the elevator mix of Nothing Else Matters. Shit is pretty pricey for a single, and I'm afraid they'll wind up including it with the remaster box set of The Black Album, and I'll have two like with that Creeping Death single, which is also included inside the Ride the Lightning set.
