Harebrained (Shadowrun, DragonFall) bringing back BattleTech to PCs

Yeah I'll definitely back this. I've been itching for a new mechwarrior game

It's not going to be a Mechwarrior game. It's a turn based thing. If you're expecting a first person combat sim, you'll be surprised.

That said I'm down like a clown for this. Like Lime, I'm going to end up going to a pretttttttty decent tier on this.

I think of mechwarrior as the franchise because that's what the friend who introduced me to it called it, but I've actually only ever played Mechcommander and 2 so don't worry about that, I'm ready for familiar territory.

This is one of my dream games That I didn't even know I wanted until now.

With energy and weapon management, as well as targetted aiming, it should have more combat depth than Shadowrun.

Oh, cool. That makes sense, it can be used interchangeably for sure, I just didn't want anyone to be expecting X and getting Y instead. That'd only be disappointing for some.

MechCommander is so awesome.

I hope to god this isn't a resurrection of MW:Tactics. What a shitshow that was. Same publisher.
Don't see any mention of IGP on the site. It sounds more like they'd be licensing directly from Microsoft like they did for Shadowrun.

But man was MW:T a complete turd. That's what the T stood for!

Harebrained Schemes already has my appreciation for their fantastic Shadowrun campaigns, and it looks like they're giving me another reason to. They're also developing Necropolis. I just hope they can handle this many projects.

???

IGP is defunct, PGI has sole rights on the MWO content now and is admittedly doing better without them, and there's nothing to state anywhere that this project has anything to do with any sort of remnant of IGP or Blue Lizard. The whois just shows godaddy as a registrar and the only badging on the site belongs to Harebrained.

Two projects at once doesn't' seem like much.

As an avid battletech fan, I'm extremely hyped about all of this. Then again, I'm one of those people who has invested around 300$ into Mechwarrior Online, still plays it regularly and read most of the books.

What I already love, love, LOVE most about this is that the page indicates that they will be following Piranha Games' mech-art direction. Griffin, Locust, Atlas and Catapult on the page show this really well.

Heck, the silhouettes are DIRECTLY taken from the art on mwomercs.com

This is really great to see after Mechwarrior Tactics really ruined the look of all the mechs and PGI have clearly proven that they are fully capable of redesigning the whole battletech-roster of mechs.

in short: mech porn confirmed (almost)

This may be the first Kickstarter I actually back hot damn. Battletech is probably my favorite fictional universe and other than MWO (shudder) it needs some fresh blood. (Well fictional universe besides Transformers, common theme there haha)

Also helps the devs I actually trust with the IP.

Goddamn, this might be the thing to get me into Kickstarter. I love me some mech action and given what Harebrained Schemes has done with turn-based stuff in Shadowrun, this seems like a match made in heaven.

Now we need a Mechwarrior game... :c

We have one, one of the best PLAYING* Mechwarrior games ever - in fact. It's just that some of the F2P and Multiplayer Only aspects of it turn people off. But if it's battletech-like mech to mech combat you want, MWO is fine.

*to be clear, I am referring to moment-to-moment mech to mech combat. I am absolutely aware that the lack of campaign has lead to some dissapointment.

And they're also working on Ziggaraut, right? I think that's what it's called.

I'm a little concerned this team is biting off more than it can chew.. (and I want them to keep making Shadowrun games).

Necropolis.

I don't see how working on 2 games is biting off more then they can chew considering that they are currently working on... 2 games.

omg yes please. I only got to play 1 or 2 games with my dads old hex table before he and his friends kind of fell out of playing games. BattleTech was one of them, and Carwars was the other. I need this in my veins.

Thank god for flyingdebris. Hope his art style spills over to the offical BT:TROs.

I hope all the Mechwarrior, Mechcommander, and Battletech fans haven't been sucked dry by MW Online or the despicable Tactics when this starts to do its funding.

I heard that Piranha made 5 million dollars on the Founders Package back in the day - imagine what such a sum of money would do to Harebrained and their ideas.

Russ Bullock (Piranha) has already confirmed they are sharing the mech designs with them, so yeah. Which is amazing, as Iglesias work on them is by far the best thing to came out of Mechwarrior Online.

Also, Catalyst (publisher behind Battletech) got the Unseen design back - here's the Warhammer in the front and the Marauder in the back:

We'll see if Iglesias or Harebrained will include these mechs in the game.

Backed on Day One of the campaign

Here's hoping for a campaign prior to the Clan Invasion and none of the current Dark Age stuff. Give me a campaign before the Third Succession Wars

I'm part of that 5 million, what a waste of money that ended up being.

Me too, but it gave us some great mech designs and i think I've gotten my fair share of my 60 dollars with the amount I've played already. Things could have been much better and we could have had a much more competent team developing the game, but them's the breaks I guess.

For completeness:

Griffin, Warhammer, Marauder, and Shadow Hawk.

The Griffin and Shadow Hawk are already in MWO, since they came from those other anime Crusher Joe/Dougram and now Macross. This art gives me hope that we'll see the Warhammer in MWO.

Also, down like a clown for this KS.

Between him and Anthony Scroggins (Shimmering Sword), BT has the best artists it has EVER HAD going on a lot of content right now.

Oh yeah Shimmering Sword is so good. I backed the Protectorate Wars and the robot designs he does is really great.

Sweet! Hopefully someone'll do a Kickstarter for a mech sim soon too. Figure between this and Star Citizen that'd be the logical conclusion.

A small correction but yes, absolutely.

To me ports of console games like Assasins creed, batman, etc. isn't real PC gaming. Sure Valve, Blizzard and a few others were still delivering PC centric games but this past decade its been mostly stuff that could just as easily be played on playstation and xbox. When people talk about the golden ages of PC gaming in the 80s and 90s there talking about stuff like X-Com, Fallout 1 & 2, Baldur's Gate, Full Throttle, X-Wing, Tie Fighter, etc. games that just wasn't possible on consoles.

I also realize that some of these games like Broken Age, X-Com and Wasteland are appearing on home consoles but I still consider them PC games just as I consider games like Arkham and Mortal Kombat console games.
