Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

What is the catch. There has to be a catch.

200+ songs is ridiculous.

I don't think it will all be included. If I had to guess, I'd say the game is a free download with different methods of paying for the songs, like pay per play, buy a song (or song pack?) to play how many times you want, or maybe a subscription.

Well, the producer of the series said on the TGS stage that he wants to release it as a full package without dlc and f2p elements, but who knows whether SEGA will allow him to do that.

I feel this might be likely, but worry there might be some Japan-only restrictions around it, such as in the subscription case. DLC I can deal with though, so long as I can use JP PSN cards to purchase.

I can't imagine that many songs being released for a nominal full game price.

If you're looking for market precedent for this sort of thing, beatmania IIDX INFINITAS launched last month using a subscription model. It launched with few songs to start but songs are being added monthly; the catch is that the new songs rotate and if you don't subscribe during a month a particular set of songs are offered, you can't get them until they are offered again.

Seems doable but many more hoops to jump through for those outside Japan. Hopefully FT being on PS4 and not PC will keep things in the PSN store and not through some external subscription service.

I don't think releasing as a single package with over 200 songs is really that odd. Certainly extremely generous, I don't want to downplay that, but not without precedent. Late PS2 Bemani CSs and current Taiko CSs regularly hug the 100 track count, and then you have the Premium Best disc bumping the IIDX Empress CS to around 200 total (which I believe was also made out to be a fanservice thing). Then iirc Theatrhythm Curtain Call launched just recently with over 200 tracks.

I mean, I can't claim to know a whole lot about Project Diva, but if Future Tone consists of a lot of tracks that have already appeared in a home release or arcade-exclusives that debuted some time ago, then dumping a ton of them into a single release isn't too strange. I'd imagine a lot of Japanese fans have gotten their fill of those tracks, and there's probably not too much overlap with the newer tracks coming to PDX and brand new arcade additions, which I'd imagine are primary draws.

I've said before that I don't want to get too optimistic that we'll get everything in one package, but that's more out of cynicism than it being totally unreasonable. Of course, it'd still be an extremely generous gesture, and one I'm really hoping comes to pass. Hell, I'd even welcome it at a premium price. I just don't think a song count like that necessarily means DLC or F2P.

It's a different business model? I want to buy it once and have it available forever whenever I want.

I don't think my two posts are contradictory. I'm willing to pay a premium to not be hassled by subscriptions or microtransactions. It's easy to imagine a situation where a subscription or pay to play model is shut down one day, making it impossible to play the game. i'd rather buy it.

I really like Guitar Hero Live's GHTV mode, where it has two channels that constantly stream music from almost 300 songs. There are no additional costs for it, but if you want to play a specific song on demand, you need to use a "Play", which can be obtained by playing GHTV or with real money.

As much as I am a big fan of Future Tone, I will be crestfallen if they heavily take advantage of their consumers with price gouging. Please don't dampen my enthusiasm Sega.

I wonder if the game will have every difficulty unlocked straight away or whether it be like the others in which you have to play normal, then hard and finally extreme. If it's the latter it would take forever to get all the songs on extreme (not like I'm complaining though)

Agreed, but the execution of the delivery may either make or break this deal for even the most hardcore Project Diva consumer.

Sega will have to go full Konami in order to blow this.

Let`s see the usual options:

- Retail: All songs in one $60+ package. For 213 songs, I doubt many would complain about the package, even if it comes at a bigger price. Since japan doesn`t have prices like the US, I can see they charging more for this.

- Digital Download + Microtransations: The download can be free or paid and include a basic set of songs while the player can choose to buy their favorites. This will hinge on how the payments must be done and how much each song can cost. My guess is that even if there`s a retail version with all 213 songs, I doubt they won`t give more support in the coming months. For diehard fans, they can even sell a season pass.

- Subscription: This is the one that worries me the most and can be even done with the other two. A subscription can act as a season pass, giving access to new songs whenever they are launched, costumes and so on, for a montly/yearly price. My biggest fear is Sega using a subscription as the only way to play the game, but that would be one BIG shot in the foot.

To have to unlock the the harder difficulties in the usual way it's done in the Diva series for this game would really suck when you consider the track count.

Hate to break up the Future Tone discussion but Weekly Diva Station has some new DIVA X media up today. This time it's a preview video demonstrating Calc., バビロン, ストリーミングハート, and ウミユリ海底譚.

Goddamn, I can't seem to beat Gaikkatsu no Riria or whatever it's called (the song with the dancing skeletons) on Hard in Project Mirai DX. It's all that's keeping me from claiming this as "Completed". Any advice? I don't even care about getting a high rank, just not dying.

Use both hands and change the inputs to direction arrows, if you haven`t already.

I love this song and it`s harder than the ones that have an extra difficulty. You really need to time well the fast parts and remember that in, one part, the song will try to throw your tempo off (in the piano solo). Other than that, practice.

Invisible on Super Hard is more difficult. ;)

Have the PV videos caught up to all the known songs for X except the chaos medley?

Time for new song announcements.

What is the word on scratch notes in Diva X? I didn't see any regular or link scratches in the video, though they did have the chance time star. They were significantly less of an issue in F2nd thanks to the stick support, but I wouldn't miss them if they weren't in X. Playing MGF without them was nice.

New Weekly Diva Station update: retailer-specific bonuses have been revealed. Some relevant ones:

Amazon.co.jp: PS Vita original system theme
AmiAmi: IC card case (original neck strap)
Neowing (CD Japan): original microfiber towel
Sega Store: original tapestry (B3 size)

The full list will appear on the official site, though there are no images yet.

Kinda wish I had pre-ordered from CD Japan now but I will live with my choices.

If I'm not mistaken regular scratch notes are still in but link scratches & the sort are gone aka they've went back to how they were in the first F game. Though I'm sure you'll still be able to use the stick on the Vita.

If I tried to put my hatred of this track into words it'd probably sound like Miku's seizure at the end of it. Anyway, that's all 94 Diva F/2nd tracks perfected on Hard.
I know that's unimpressive to a lot of people here, but I only have 3 weeks' play time with these games.

Wonder if they are making one of those huge controllers again for the PS4 version?

This has been at the forefront of my thoughts concerning the release around these two new titles. If HORI does make one again, I will be purchasing it again. Especially if it tailors to Future Tone's play style like it does in the arcade. Please, show me something nice, HORI.

How will the slidey thing work for PS4 is my real question.

I've been wondering about that, as well. The gameplay video Sega put up shows very brief play with the PS4 controller so I can only guess that the center touch pad will be for the slide mechanic.

AiDee is great, not at the top of my Michie M request list but #2-3. Really happy.

Hajimete no Oto being a stand alone is wierd. I was hoping they would stick returning songs to medleys, after F2nd I don't really want another game full of throwbacks.
