I actually don't think every class has to do everything. I'm not necessarily calling for Hunter to have lifegain or anything like that. The concern is more that the design space for the classes aren't balanced. The class archetypes and how they play were defined by factors outside of Hearthstone itself. It's kind of an awkward limitation. Nothing they can do about it now.
Hunter specifically... I think Dahbomb's point and maybe something I agree with is that the class is too straightforward. Play beasts aggressively. They don't have a good class mechanic aside from beast synergy and maybe traps? I mean, I would be fine with some kind of hydrologist-type card for Hunter. Discovering secrets is a mechanic that needs to return. Would make the class more interesting to play at least.
I despise Mad Scientist and Mysterious Challenger as much or more as the next guy. My dislike of this kind of design has more to do with the fact that Blizzard is printing overpowered synergy cards to force secrets to be played. The problem is more the insane and ridiculous tempo and value plays those synergy cards provide rather than an issue with the design of secrets themselves.
Like, Mad Scientist and Hydrologist are both good 2 mana 2/2s that do something with secrets, but one is way, way more healthy for the game than the other.
Any minion that has a targetable ability cannot be played without casting that ability, with the caveat that a combo ability that isn't combo'd (or any conditional ability whose condition isn't met) or an ability that doesn't have valid targets is ignored by the game so the minion can be played as is.
That Rogue played the Slayer first so the combo wasn't active.

I'm actually having some decent success with Quest Yogg Druid. I've actually won in almost all the match ups, including Quest Rogue, Pirate Warrior, and Control Priest, my worst seems to be Paladin and Hunter. I may swap out the Faceless Manipulators (for either copying my taunts or copying big control cards from other classes like Tirion) with more early game like BEETLEBERRIES, MY FAVORITE!
Discovering White Eyes off of Lotus Agents in this deck is one of the best feelings in the world.
Eh, you can force any card into relevance with ridiculous new synergy cards. There's nothing impressive or surprising about it.
Hearthstone has overall been really bad about that stuff. "Paladin secrets are underwhelming, huh? Well, here's a 6 mana 6/6 draw and play all secrets, and it's not even a legendary."
A changing meta is great and all but I wish they didn't have the subtlety and finesse of a sledgehammer in providing that.

This deck looks cool but, I'm not sure how it really handles any of the current meta. If you don't draw out of your mind aggro is going to crush you and a majority of the "control" decks shouldn't really have a problem outvaluing you.
Picked up Sherazin in a pack so my rogue collection is getting pretty complete. Still short Xaril and Shaku, but I am not too worried about those. Shaku would be nice but I am done with Gadgetzan packs.
i personally have grown to not like arena ever since it went standard only, they really jacked up the rates for leggys like this, honestly i'd rather see a shredder and a belcher over seeing that kind of trio BS. if they aren't going to do something like improve synergies when drafting (IE pick a murloc, murlocs are 50% more likely to show up later in draft) i have no idea what limiting the draft choices was supposed to improve, it just made it more vanilla than it ever was IMO
so it finally happened for me. Quest warrior puts down dirty rat on turn 2 and yanks Tirion out of my hand. around turn 4 he's hurting bad as you can imagine-- and he Brawls and loses. I still have Tirion
That was soooo satisfying
---------------------------------
Hunter is brilliant design actually. I will tell you one reason--- it's cheap. It's a class newbies can spend a tiny bit of dust on and do well. Hunters are annoying but meh you don't even see them much once you get higher on the ladder.
Esp now that zoolock has faded away like the Jedi or something
Hunters don't need a single legendary so obviously it's a class that needs to exist. The class is fine. It would be horrible business sense to change it to satisfy the more veteran population. Vets can play other classes and suffer the occassional loss to Hunters.
It's better for the overall health of the game
edit: And yes I started out as a Hunter on ladder. Call of the Wild was my bang back before it got nerfed. It helped me learn the game w/o much investment. Then I gradually accumulated the cards to play other classes like Rogue
Just had a glitch where my ferryman didn't bounce a minion. I selected the stonetusk I wanted to bounce and nothing happened, the turn then carried on as normal with the ferryman showing the sleep icon as you would expect.

I said fuck it and bought a bunch of Arena entries. Managed two 7/3s, one 0/3 (fml), and a few 4/3s. Scored enough gold to gain 3 extra runs. Afterwards had almost exactly enough for VanCleef.
The Sherazin deck feels so much better now, I didn't realise just how much it was lacking before. Being able to get a 6/6+ out n the early rounds can swing things drastically, and even if they burn it witth removal you have two Arcane Giants for later and Sherazin constantly popping his head up. And for the times you can get a 12/12ish with two Arcanes on the board.
I need the 2nd Vilespine still, and another legendary... but which legendary?
Either Xaril or Shaku,
I'm a little down on Shaku as whenever I've drawn him vs rogue from hallucinate/swashbuckler he's only drawn a single card before being squished (and many times the card is high cost) whereas Xaril almost always gives me 2 cards I can combo with.
Xaril is also one of my favourite cards in the game, the design and effect is really fun.
So unless anyone can tell me how wrong I am (please do!) I'm going with Xaril.

Is burn Mage just a really bad match up for quest rogue? I feel like I don't stand a chance against that deck. The last game I had a great draw and finished the quest by turn 4 but had no board and was dead before I even played it.
Firstly, thank you to everyone who's given me feedback. The advice I've had here has been really valuable. You people are great!
Dusted my Cenarius (which I haven't used for over a year) to craft the seond Vilespine. I also decided against Arcane Giants and switched in Leeroy and a second Cold Blood.
I couldn't think of this before I had VC, but now I think it's working better.
Current list:
2x Backstab
2x C Coin
2x Prep
2x CB
1x Hallucination
1x Patches
2x Swashburgler
2x Eviscerate
2x Razorpetal Lasher
2x Sap
1x Edwin VC
1x FoN
1x Mimic Pod
2x Agent
1x Sherazin
1x Leeroy
2x Vilespine
2x Auctioneer

I'll be replacing Mimic Pod with Xaril when I can, it's a little bit slow and doesn't put a body on the board, so I don't think it's optimal here. Anything you'd consider switching it out for?
Auctioneer, Sherazin, EVC, regular damage combos... I can see two free 1 cost spells that also have helpful effects being pretty great.

Update: for the first time in around 20 games I managed to get to 14. I keep telling myself to ladder with something I can actually play well (easier modes like Mid Pally, QW, Ele Shaman), but this deck is far too much fun.
I've still got a lot to learn playing MR, but the current deck is insanely powerful when I make the right plays. I read an incredible guide on Reddit by Kre'a and I'm now making plays I perhaps wouldn't have before. For instance, I would often drop a SI:7 turn 3 on an empty board to gain dominance, but I would never think about cold blooding it for fear of removal. That early 7 hit + the chance to do it twice helped me burn down a Secrets Mage who used Blizzard, Flamestrike, and two IBs (one of which he pulled from Tome).
Kre'a lists Warllock as the easiest and Murloc Pally as one of the hardest. I lost twice to Warlock (made some really dumb plays), third opponent was a Murloc Pally....
game over, man...
I draw shit to open and mulligan the lot. Pull a good hand with: Prep, Sherazin, SB, Patches (boo!), and I have coin. Still pretty sure I'm doomed, but I want to see it out to get the experience.
He drops a Tidecaller, I swashbuckler and draw Tirion! Fuckit, probably won't make it to turn 8, but that's pretty cool.
He drops Hydro and goes face. Expected.
I pull eviscerate and drive SB and dagger into TC's fishy mug.
He drops a second TC and Bluefin (thank god I got the first TC!). I take out the Taunt, Eviscerate the second TC, drop a Swash.... and draw the card that wins me the game.
He secrets up and drops a Rockpool buffing the Bluefin, and his Hydro decks my SB, Drops Vilefin gaining the Murloc HP (boo!), and goes face some dropping a secret.
I draw Edwin.
I see the win, dropping Sherazin.
Pretty sure at this point my opponent figures he's won, I don't have the removal to spend to keep up with all these small minions.
He drops a Steward, HP's and gets a Divine Shield on his fish token, and goes face. I'm down to 12 HP and he has the board against my single Sherazin.
I take out the 2/3 Tidecaller and Sherazin goes to sleep. I make the winning play:
Patches, Prep, Spikeridge Steed (!!!) on Patches, Coin.
All he can do is feed my taunts. I sit back hovering over Tirion feeling like some kind of mastermind.
From here it's easy, I thin his board down as much as I can, taking out the Steward with Backstab and Si:7. I combo VanCleef into a 6/6, and end with a 2/5 Steg and Tiron to play next.
Games like this make me love HS. When the rng works so well in your favour against seemingly impossible odds it's pretty exhilarating. The bastard designers know we'll put up with the frustration when it works against us to chase this feeling, at least they hooked me that way.
Now all I have to do is win without the RNG swings... on we go!
man cant take anymore matches where my minions are frozen helpless and/or get vanished. just feels like the game has reached an all time high for un-interactivity. also been on crazy losing streak with miracle rogue.
guess will play a different game for a bit.
I wish I could at least get a little gold for my losses so I don't feel like I wasted an hour altogether. In Heroes / Overwatch I still get awarded for my losses so I feel like I've still made great progress towards character progression and such.
Oh dear, that's probably it! I totally forgot it's a combo card as I just think of it as one of my bouncers.
See why I never break the rank 15 barrier? Lol.
I remember those days. you'll get better along with your collection and it'll get easier. just try not to get jaded in the process. I can go days w/o playing but then my friend always persuades to log back on. He doesnt seem to care too much bout rank. He just loves accumulating his gold. Think he's got bout 2500 saved already for next expac

Absolutely terrible matchup. I don't think I've lost to a quest rogue while using burn mage. I don't even know how you lose unless you don't get your ice block.

Huh should give burn mage a go next time I play (I always find it fun to switch to the deck I'm frustrated with the most playing against; always seems to improve my WR)
And yeah still missing Xaril I always thought the card looked interesting. only rogue legendary I'm missing!
would be fun to make a goofy meme deck running xaril + umbra but currently missing both of those ;(
Why would c'thun taunt warrior be a good thing, even slightly? Taunt warrior is already quite strong. C'thun warrior is already quite strong. Why would you want to see them combined, let alone combined with a minion as good as arakoa.
It's fun never knowing what you're about to face. I hear people say that Wild is "chaotic and unorganized", but I think "don't you just mean that it has a lot of variety?" I prefer that over seeing my opponent and immediately knowing "Oh okay, it's X class, so they are going to play Y because that's all people are using right now."
That said, it seems clear to me that Egg Druid is on another level in Wild. Pirate Warrior players concede as soon as they see my portrait. Egg Druid and Pirate Warrior are both probably too good, and no one even cares about Secret Paladin anymore. I've only seen 2 this month. I've only seen 1 Dr. Boom (aside from my own, of course).

I actually wonder if I can do C'thun x N'Zoth Warrior in Wild, or Quest x N'Zoth x Patron. It's too bad I haven't been fortunate in pulling Warrior epics, and I don't want to spend the dust on them just for a flight of fancy.
I am still sitting on about 3600 dust because I'm not sure what I want to do with it. :-X
I still haven't gotten to rank 8 more than once with pirate warrior. Eventually I hope to afford captain #2 and leeroy next season, but I'm not sure how much that will change.
And Htown I think it's tradition for your rank-up to be unrewarding. When I finally hit rank 10 it was due to an AFK. Player skill? Nope. Luck of the draw? Nope. Good deck? Nope. Just someone not being there / disconnected.
Random thing that came across my mind the other day, how many 7+ attack minions are there now these days in the current meta? Seems like the number is pretty low, can only think of Amara off the top of my head. Just remembering the ye old Big Game Hunter days for some reason.

Had a 21 minute game as Dragon Priest versus Quest Warrior. Last few turns were just me surviving Rag. Actually got him to fatigue but since he had like 28 HP and 15 armour I wasn't going to win.
Switched to Pirate Warrior after that.
One strategy I noticed was bluffing Noble Defender by leaving a minion at 2 HP.
