That tag line 'hello again' is embarrassing.

Know your history man

Airport Extreme is in dire need of an update as well. That thing is what, 3 or 4 years old? I honestly can't think of an older product that Apple currently sells.

Ipod Shuffle hasn't been updated since 2010 iirc. Not that it needs an update, it's literally just a thumb stick with media buttons.

My Macbook Pro is from early 2011 and has surprisingly performed like a champ for games, by booting into Windows. I sprung for the ~$200 video card upgrade at the time and the 1GB of VRAM actually let me run Skyrim and most other games from last gen at Mid-High settings.

It's finally not cutting it, though.

I vaguely remember Apple removing the ability to upgrade the video card in MBPs a year or so ago or something. Or maybe I made that up?

What's the story, there? Is there any talk of the next-gen Macbook Pros having halfway respectable video cards?

(Yes, I know it will NEVER be a good bang for my buck option - I'm barely a PC gamer and mostly use the MBP for day-to-day use. I just like having the flexibility to boot into games and play Steam with the same machine when I want).

Option wasn't removed but it was only available in the most expensive 15" and the GPU was an underwhelming AMD custom chip.

Ah that's right - they removed the ability to upgrade the $2000 model and instead only had the dedicated video card in the $2500 machine. I remember now. At the time I decided to wait one more rev and see what Apple did. If they still don't offer a reasonable video card option I'll probably get a Macbook Air + HTPC or something.

Would love to see a product that gets me interested in Macs again.

Doubting I see anything though, I can't stand the new macbooks with their fake trackpads.

Gorgeous for sure! But a new maxed out iMac is still pretty damn great (the one just before the Retina).
God i love working with it and my 2013 MacbookPro. Soooooo smooth and fast.

There's just something super iconic about that color casing. I have my old eMac in the closet and while it's not colorful, it's got that distinctive shape. I might have to try to resurrect it someday. (It's got a bum HDD)

The Mac Pro redesign was a really cool piece of engineering and tech. Cooling a 12-core Xeon and dual GPUs with a single fan and heat sink on a design that small is super impressive.

Unfortunately it was also a bad product for the market it was aimed at.

No kidding. The engineering was very impressive, and I could see a usage scenario for that sort of case for maybe home power users (using an i7) seeking a traditional desktop, but that is a market that doesn't really exist anymore. Many professionals would have loved to have a more serviceable form factor, even if it meant being larger.

Still pretty happy with my 2012 Air but I'll probably be wanting to upgrade to a Pro once the first revision of the new design hits. I'm curious to see what the final design looks like.

Freaking finally. My 2010 MBP is running so slow and sometimes crashes randomly. I really hope the new MBP are good, but I may decide to wait a bit longer for the first revision that hopefully has Kaby Lake

If I had the time and space I'd love to grab an old eMac and gut it, modernize the inside. These days you could fit a pretty beastly machine inside that footprint, and it'd be so. much. lighter.

The two aren't really mutually exclusive. Apple could have used MXM graphics cards, for instance, instead of proprietary cards pasted to the heatsink. And it could fit another SSD module, and now m.2 is actually a standard. We'll have to see. Some pros can't live without Nvidia cards or dual processors, but it could still be a much more inviting machine.

This would've been awesome months ago when like you know.. School didnt start.. and i had the money -_______________-

hyped tho

I just feel like there's a lot of work to do to get the Macintosh lineup up to spec again. I'm particularly interested to see how Apple lines up the laptop lines. There's something very odd about a MacBook Air with a screen that poor at any price, even if it is branded as the every-Mac for portable needs. I mean, they're going to change its I/O but not the outdated keyboard, cheap-ass screen, or the lack of Force Touch they put into everything else? Ridiculous.

Okay. As someone who went to a store and tried typing on those MacBooks with the butterfly keys and absolutely hated it. Someone please tell me that you get used to it and it ends up being way better. Because damn.. if that is what is in the new MBP line I'm extremely meh.. right now.

I got used to them. At home I prefer my Das Keyboard, but I can still bang out 80wpm on the new ones no problem. If it's what you're always used to you'll probably adapt pretty quickly.

Good timing. Depending on how good the 15" is, I might make a move before the year ends. My 2011 MBP is growing tired. Depending on what this MBP refresh offers, it will determine whether I remain with Apple or not. I have 0 problems going back to an all-PC setup.

I don't think you hate the butterfly key mechanism, i think you hate the bigger keys and the close to zero travel aspect of it, have you tried the magic keyboard? It uses the same mechanism and feel pretty good.

Yeah I think any keyboard change to MBP will mirror that of the new Magic Keyboard and not the MacBook. The feel of that keyboard is fine.
