Does apple have any plans to make portable workstations again? You know... PRO stuff?
Doesn't seem like it, but there was a great keynote yesterday by a similar company that might have what you want.

I can make my text bold by taking my eyes off the screen and awkwardly poking at the top of my keyboard, or I can press command+B. I can use suggested words, or I can just type with the keyboard in front of me. What is an actual professional going to get from this bullshit?

You can scrub through videos from your SD card
dongle
on a very small OLED instead of just with the trackpad.

Every time I try to scrub youtube or podcasts on my iPhone it jumps three minutes when I lift my finger and I want to scream and throw my phone. So I'm not buying the scrubbing thing on the touch bar.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Fingerprints is the first reason I thought of. I don't mind a tablet full of fingerprints but my monitor? It bugs me.

Yeah...clients will touch my screen all the fucking time when pointing something out and it bugs the FUCK out of me.

Ugh..... I applaud them for thinking outside side the box, but I won't be looking at my keyboard when I am normally glued to my screen. Touchscreen work so well with phones because you are seeing the actual screen.

Unless you're using an iPad Pro with a keyboard, where that view is perfect 'cos cognitive dissonance.
Huh?

You still hold an iPad Pro the same way you hold a normal iPad.

Also, macOS isn't made for touch, and I wouldn't want them to give it the Windows 10 treatment just to make it that way. (Make all the targets bigger.)

Honestly this doesnt make any sense to me.

I have to stare at the screen, then stare at the touch bar, then stare back on the screen

Meanwhile my hands are already on the trackpad and i could select stuff without interrupting what im looking at...

This customization will be really nice.

Are non-power users choosing the MacBook Pro over the other models?

Yeah? I know plenty. I also know professional editors who type with two goddamn fingers. People need to stop assuming that every pro is just like them (that goes for assuming that no one wants the new stuff Apple adds, as well as no one uses the stuff Apple removes, for what it's worth.)

That is a cool effect. This is a nice way to make the laptop have touch screen features without an actual touchscreen.

TouchBar kinda neat I guess but when I'm working in my office (90% of my job) I have the system closed and external keyboard/mouse working on two full monitors. Only time I'd ever see this bar is when I'm traveling.

I know -- anecdotal.

Super cool looking, but I just can't see myself doing anything on the Touch Bar that I could do way faster on the trackpad/keyboard

It looks slick but I don't want to look at the keyboard, I'm on a laptop and don't need quick type. The short cuts, I dunno, why is it good that I'm constantly going back to that strip and screen when I'm doing stuff.

Touch Bar certainly looks cool, but at the moment it's obvious that this is a gen 1 device.

I think over the next few months and years it'll evolve into something that is actually useful.

This would be nice on a regular keyboard/mouse setup so I wouldn't have to lift my hand off the keyboard to use the mouse. On a laptop keyboard... I'll need to use it a bit to judge but it seems less useful with the trackpad right there.

IDK, it seems kinda nice to free up real estate that you'd need for navigation playback in media apps. And for most a visual bar is gonna be easier to configure and remember than remembering dozens of keyboard macros.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
I'm sorry - as someone who loves Mac laptops and who has had six or seven of their laptops - this is all kinds of stupid.

This is... just... so unnecessary. I never had this problem.

Why dont apple just make a touch screen macbook already instead of this mess?

This seems like a idea you would only come up with because you dont want to have a touch screen for whatever reason

Pros don't look at the keyboard much. This is more like some extra menu space, with a few sliding gestures. It's okay but eh. TouchId is probably the biggest feature for me so far. Passwords can die in a fire.
