so next gen MBP is just a giant Force Reactive OLED screen with no actual keyboard or touchpad or touchstrip, right?

I doubt it. Tactile response still matters.

Apple does have a bunch of patents related to basically distorting a touchscreen surface to create "buttons", but who knows if the technology is ready. Assuming something like that then I don't think they'd stick to physical keys that long; especially given how many people fry their laptops by dumping liquids through the keys if you can turn that into a sealed surface it's a major bonus to durability.

I don't look at my keyboard when working. My eyes remain on the screen. Why would I want to look at an OLED bar to choose a tab, or copy/paste? This is absurd.

This is great for computer novices, who don't know keyboard shortcuts. But I don't think I'd use a touch bar for something like making text bold.

Pro indeed.

Apple gives you a gorgeous retina screen and then wants you to stare at some tiny strip on your keyboard, lol.

Later today there are going to be tons of articles proclaiming that the function keys are the most important thing on a computer, and their removal signals the downfall of Apple.

Except you still have literally all of the functionality of the original function keys without any additional hardware or effort on the part of the user.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
So instead of making a fucking touch screen like the surface/ipad they just crammed all the touch shit into a bar on the keyboard?

I love how the guy is looking at his keyboard the whole time to do anything, thats exactly why you want a 15" screen, to look at the keyboard.

I will miss these.

How ironic that the "Pro" verssion of a product is actively alienating the more "pro" or enthusiast segment of their customer base...

I can make my text bold by taking my eyes off the screen and awkwardly poking at the top of my keyboard, or I can press command+B. I can use suggested words, or I can just type with the keyboard in front of me. What is an actual professional going to get from this bullshit?

What if I told you we were revolutionizing the professional notebook?

"Communicating is all about emoji now."

Otherwise...

"We've optimized the MacBook input for apps that nobody uses."

Yeah, instead of finishing typing that word I'd just travel my finger all the way over to the Touch Bar.

I'm actually not really getting that whole Touch Bar thing. Even if I can customize it, I never look at my keyboard when I type - Without physical keys it'll be pretty hard to find my what I want on the bar.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?

Yeah, it seems pretty awkward, I'm not staring at my keyboard when I'm typing.
