Good, that movie is horrible. I have seen starship troopers several times and i just dont get what is so great about it.
It has blond teenagers from 90210 and Melrose Place fighting for a nazi-like government against huge evil bugs.

It's a satirical comedy of absurd, that's whats great about it!

Oh yeah, and 300 on BD rocks.

First tragedy, then farce.
WB's very first HDDVDs not only showed the Matrix, it said coming Summer 2006. :lol

I want my Shawshank also

At least they got rid of that HDDVD teaser... I get it, HDDVD is better than DVD. I allready own the format, Im watching a movie on it, you really dont have to sell me on it.

I wish all studios would adopt there "start the damn movie right away" policy.

Unfortunetly, my wii purchase this week, my trip to see the cubies next week my dad being in the ER and my plumbing exploding has halted my purchase of 300, Hott Fuzz and Shaun. Stooge wants them so bad too :(

The HD-DVD release of "Hot Fuzz" is about as impressive a one-disc release as I´ve yet paid witness to. In fact, it is more impressive than any of the two-disc titles that have been released on the format. It would take nearly twenty hours to enjoy all of the supplements contained as commentaries, pop-up trivia tracks or stand alone supplements in their entirety. They packed an entire forty minute film of the disc as an extra and over four hours of other bonus materials. Stunning. The reason for this cornucopia of value added content is hopefully that Universal realizes how special this little comedy is. Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost are funny men and have created a new brand of comedy that is both intelligent and humorous. "Hot Fuzz" is the second film from the filmmakers and although I find "Shaun of the Dead" to be a slightly better film, this is a worthwhile sophomore outing. The HD-DVD features top-notch visuals and great sound, but the supplements are about as good as any release can get; especially considering it sits on just one disc.

DVDTOWN.com rates this HD-DVD:
Video 10
Audio 9
Extras 10
Film value 10

http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?fid/226/tid/138058/

This is an outstanding disc in all facets that are measured. Excellent video, audio and even the bonus features. The only things lacking are a TrueHD audio mix and some High Definition bonus features, but if given the choice between the former two, bring on the TrueHD because I rarely watch bonus features more than once. But as good as this disc is technically, if the movie sucks, it doesn’t matter, but in this case have no fear because it doesn’t. Highly Recommend!

Film: 4/5
Video: 5/5
Audio: 4.5/5
Extras: 4.5/5

Can't wait to check it out.

I've had a PS3 since launch, but I've been waiting on throwing down the extra cash for Bluray movies (in comparison to regular dvd's), but after seeing 300 in theatres on IMAX and The Fountain on standard dvd, I knew I had to get the bluray copies. Wow. Both are absolutely gorgeous to look at. I'm so impressed. I won't be buying anymore DVD releases from here on out unless they are tv show seasons (which seem to be getting released as well in HD formats). I'll keep using Netflix in the interim of course.

One question though - the Ghost in the Shell Solid State Society film and the full season of Second Gig - will these be getting Bluray releases? I already own the first season of SAC on regular DVD and I probably won't upgrade even if it is announced, but the rest I'd definitely love to snag on Bluray. Any word at all?

From the first review:

IIRC, the regular US DVD only has one commentary.

Yeah, I think you're right. From the DVD talk DVD review of the movie:

The extras are based on a novel concept: they're entertaining! Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's commentary is animated and charming. They really love their work. The one drawback is that they mention another commentary featuring the notable character actors, and no such track appears on this edition.

Why hasn't 300 HD-DVD sold out yet at Amazon?

Blu-ray version with more stocks sold out as of Tuesday at 5PM ET.

What's going on here?

<-----well, well, well, I got a tag. THANKS MOD :D

Fork 'em, Sparky!
Tis a shame that it hasn't. Even we sold out at my store of 300, then promptly onthe nigh truck got like 10 more of BluRay and 7 or so of HD-DVD version.

Picking up my first two Blu-Ray movies after work - The Warriors & 300. Watched a bit of 300 at a friends house and honestly I'm a little disappointed at the grainy quality, but from what I understand thats how it was filmed. And TMNT comes out next week!

Okay, so I got my copy of 300 BD today, and it had a sticker on the shrinkwrap saying it includes a sneak peek of Trick 'r Treat, but I must be blind because I see no such thing.

What's the deal? It's not under 300's extras, nor is there any insert about it.

Did the sticker lie?!

DarkJediKnight I bought Hot Fuzz last I recommend to everyone that likes comedy and action. I think I'm going back and picking up Shaun of the Dead this weekend.

is anime really that much better on the HD formats? It's probably just because I'm completely ignorant to the transfer process, but how much can HD really help cel-animation from the 1980's, for example?

I'm tempted to get that Honneamise BRD that Bebpo got. Very tempted.

Pretty huge difference. Cel-based movies were drawn for the theater so there are all sorts of details in them. Plus the lines are straighter without any jaggies. Also the color seems much more vivid.

Now from around 2001-2006 during the move to digital, TV shows were made at 640x480 on PCs, so there's really not going to be a point in HD versions. But films were still made for theaters in higher resolution.

But TV shows from 2007 out is drawn on a PC in digital at 1920x1080.

So in short:
Anime movies will always show benefit in HD
Anime tv shows BEFORE 2000 and AFTER 2007 will show benefit in HD, but 2000-2006 will be pointless in HD.

Final Thoughts

Our site has never reviewed a release that's scored 5 stars overall -- in fact, this entire disc seems too good to be true. Not only is the movie entertaining and satisfying, but the video transfer is gorgeous, the audio packs significant punch, and there are approximately eighteen hours of entertaining supplemental materials.

Judged in comparison to the standard-def DVD, the video and audio package is significantly improved, and this HD DVD includes ten hours of features that aren't even available on the DVD.

Simply put, in my opinion, this is currently the best overall high-def release on the market -- especially when you factor in the price. Purchasing 'Hot Fuzz' on HD DVD is a no-brainer for fans and an easy recommendation for newcomers. This is what high definition is all about.

Hot Fuzz was actually selling out faster at BB yesterday than 300, and they had about the same amount of copies for both. Glad I got mine when I did.

this is currently the best overall high-def release on the market

Congrats on your tag.

The only thing you guys had Besides 300 this week was Shooter, IMAX and Blue Planet. HD apart from 300 had some good movies Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Darkman, Shooter and a few others not really worth mentioning. I think the purchases are spread out across the various titles that were released yesterday

It was a pain in the ass to find Hot Fuzz on DVD too.

I had to go to three stores last night before I found a place that had not sold out.

Damn, the disc quality sure is a surprise to everyone. To call it the best HD disc ever is quite a feat, especially going up against 300 HD DVD.

BTW, I wonder if Universal is using some kind of new compression technique for the movie, considering that the movie is 2 hour long with 18 hrs of extras and 4 commentary tracks, it's amazing that they crammed all that on a HD-30 disc.

300 looks great on my TV. Great color saturation and image sharpness/clarity. Movie pops off the screen.

I just don't see how people are slaming this movie because of its grain. The director put it there on purpose!!!!!!!!300 IMO is one of the best HD releases yet, nearly flawless picture quality alot of 3D effect to it..in some of the scenes where you see the mountains and grassy vistas the PQ is jaw dropping...

The Conclusion:
Hot Fuzz is one of the best films of 2007. It seamlessly blends humor with action to create one of the funniest and most riveting movies I've seen in a long time. This HD DVD is a must-have, with reference quality picture and sound, and so many extras it'll make your head spin. In fact, it's got way more extras than the standard DVD version, making it the ultimate edition. Watch out, here come the Fuzz! DVD Talk Collector Series.

I actually like grain, when its used in the same way they used it in Casino Royale.

Sometimes though you can tell its because the source material is lacking, like in Blood Diamond.

Sadly, Hot Fuzz didn't make $200+ million; so it isn't of much interest to some people.

Best movie of the year though.

Is hot fuzz really that good? I liked shaun of the dead but hot fuzz trailers didn't really 'grab' me.

300 is awesome as expected. I wish we could of got the nice DVD box though. Blu-ray cases suck ass!

I thought Shaun was waaay better. Hot Fuzz is a good movie, but Shaun was brilliant.

I like Hot Fuzz more, if only because the movies it makes fun of I like more than the zombie movies Shaun makes fun of.

Hot Fuzz is so brilliant how it trashes Bad Boys 2 and Point Break, only to become Bad Boys 2 and Point Break later in the movie.

I rarely judge the success of a movie that's making it on home video based on its box office success. It may take a while, but it could have a huge success as a cult classic on DVD and HD DVD.

no, but...according to Wiki: As of June 23, 2007, Hot Fuzz has grossed $74,193,041 Not only did it in 9 weeks make nearly twice what Shaun of the Dead made in the US but it also made more than three times Shaun did in other countries.

on a budget of about $16 million, that's freaking astounding. I imagine it will do VERY well on DVD/HD-DVD due to word of mouth.

Hot Fuzz on DVD sold a million copies in the UK in four weeks. Its done very well for a British film.

hmm I may jump on that 360 drive deal. Hot fuzz + big lebowski + children of men + dune + casino is a pretty nice deal for $150.

Hot Fuzz is awesome and every Blu-only (or SD-only) movie fan ought to be jeaslous.

I don't know if I liked it more or less than Shawn of the Dead, but when movies are that good, who cares?

I think it suffered a bit from the lame title-- it really is a hilarious and engaging movie.

I think 300 on PS3 is going to get great sales much like the Departed and Casino Royal did..

people that dont normally buy or care about BRD movies and use the PS3 as a game console are going to want this one in high def. Moreso than even smash hits like Pirates.. 300 is like crack to the demographic that would own the PS3 at this point in its life.

I still havent bought 300, Hot Fuzz or Shaun.. Once I see how bad my plumbing bill is, I may have to jump on it.

I'd recommend that you pick up the add on. It's a great deal. :D

However, I'm not sure I read your post right, but you know that the five free discs are from a limitted selection of discs that include Casablanca (awesome film classic) to the Rundown...
