The difference being Wolf Creek was a horrible horror movie.
Wild Hogs was a pretty decent comedy, i know a bunch of people that thought it was funny.
Even my friend who made me watch wolf creek said it was bad.

Wolf creek was scored a whole star below for the movie rating at high def digest as well.

PS if everyone listened to the cynical assholes with their thumbs up there asses at rotten tomatoes nobody would be buying hardly any movies.

You'll get the same responses from others but...

-Crank
-Pirates 1 or/and 2
-The Departed
-The Fifth Element rev 2
-Planet Earth

Others will suggest Corpse Bride but the ones I listed are more inline to mys taste. ;)

Crank will blow everything out of the water though. You have to see it to believe it.

Thanks, I kind of liked corpse bride so might get that aswell.

Such an ironic post how you tear through all the "assess" at rotten tomatoes right after you yourself act like one in regards to a movie YOU didn't like that someone else has in their collection.

Im the last person thats cynical about movies.

i have low standards for movies, if i enjoyed it enough i will buy it, its pretty simple.
I make no qualms that my collection isnt full of shakespearean masterpieces.
But wolf creek was even below my standards, even for my even lower horror movie standards.
So yes, if i couldnt find enjoyment out of a movie with my low standards than it is pretty bad.
That said there have been 3 or so movies that i thought were horrible, of all the movies i have seen, wolf creek being one and Fallen being another.

If you want a private convo, send him a pm. If you're going to make a hypocritical post, expect to be called out.

Rotten Tomatoes is all about pretentious movie standards and you're a hypocrite for calling someone out for owning a specific movie..............immediately after criticizing RT for doing the exact same thing.

It's also very telling how Wolf Creek is at 53% while Wild Hogs is at 15%, yet you have the audacity to question people's tastes. :lol

Joe Six-Pack: posting for the common man
Its not hard to see how wolf creek is at 53%, considering its box office gross, exponientantialy less people went to see it, and those that did are probably the hardest of core horror fans went to see it.
While exponentially more people went to see wildhogs and those the more cynically assholes went to see it and it has a lower score.
However i never use rotten tomatoes to see if i want to see a movie.

And how exactly is it hypicritical to say i thought one movie was awful while another was good?

Funny someone made a comment about me buying wild hogs and i explained why i bought it here http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7409851&postcount=9397 why i bought it. No one else seemed fit to comment, until after i said i thought wild hogs was horrible, funny how that works.
If main event likes the movie, more power to him, i was simply commenting that my friend made me watch it and i thought it was horrible, fucking sue me.

I already had friends over to watch wild hogs, what do you know they liked it. My dad wants me to bring it home because he never got to see it, and my friends parents rented it and said they liked it as well. Yes its such a horrible abomination of a movie. Oh wait we arent movie critics that think everything is shit.

We're into a Wolf Creek discussion now? :lol

Wolf Creek was one of my first blind buys when I got my first HD DVD player. I checked out Rotten and it was decently reviewed at DVD Talk (which I usually agree with). Just wanted a horror flick in HD and found it at a good price.

I thought the movie was alright. It's basically a toned down Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's far from being the worse horror movie I've seen though.

As for Wild Hogs...it's the kind of movie that I usually stay far, far away :p

I enjoyed both Wolf Creek and Wild Hogs. Wolf Creek wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad and I liked the sort of twist in the middle of the movie and creepy feeling it gave me. Those that have seen the movie probably know the scene i'm talking about.

I just don't understand the Wild Hogs hate, I laughed alot and it was pretty funny. I guess its just the cool, in thing to hate certain actors no matter what.

Hey guys... thanks for all your help a couple pages back....

I picked up the hd dvd for 70 bocks from Toys r us and I havent opened it yet.. What do i need to do to get the 5 free movies deal? I will report back and let you know how happy i am with the purchase..

Just watched Blue Planet and A Dream is Alive.

Blue Planet is pretty good. They're covering some nice stuff like natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanoes. PQ is also really good considering the year the documentary was made. Some of the shots look great even rivaling some of Planet Earth's best IMO. The narration is somehow generic though, and I wish it was a little longer (it's around 40 mins long). Can't comment on the TrueHD track since I'm still waiting to pick up some surround speakers.

You can then click on the 2nd documentary in the special features, which loads after a few seconds "A Dream is Alive". I was surprised that it has its own TrueHD track and its own menu. The show basically explains the life of an astronaut and what kind of tests they have to go through before going into space. Not really the kind of documentary which benefits from HD since it doesn't show that many sceneries and it runs only at 30 mins.

The whole disc is great demo material, so I think it's worth picking up if you want something to put beside your copy of Planet Earth, especially if you can get it for cheap.

great movie. Kinda weird it goes from being a comedy to murder mystery to gun porn. Not really what I was expecting but still so awesome.

You need to go HD with it for the greater good. PQ is pretty much the best I've seen. Though you might want to wait until you can get it without the pointless DVD side.

Are you going to pick up the HD DVD?

I rented it on dvd as well, loved it, and ordered it from Amazon. I agree that it's like 3 (or 4) movies in one. The beginning is pretty slow paced, but I enjoyed the whole thing.

Here's my Bluray collection - some exclusive Region A releases (Saw, Silent Hill etc) and a fair few exclusive Region B releases (The Rock, Con Air, Gangs Of New York, Starship Troopers etc)

(click for bigger image)

Even after owning a PS3 for five months, I'm still impressed with just how good its release schedule has been. There's at least another 6/7 films I want to buy before the crazy Christmas period where I'll probably be buying another 20 films :(

Regarding 300, is it true that the bluray version suffers from visual artifacts (strobe lighting effect, etc). I've heared this from a few places and just wondered if there was a bad batch or something inherently wrong with the encode?

I didn't see anything like that. Apart from a lot of grain (which was intentional) I didn't see anything negative in it at all. I thought it looked fantastic

EDIT: Oh, you're in Canada. You're still getting ripped off.

Wow... remaster for The Fifth Element and the free replacement plan is a bad thing? That's something a company that gives a fuck does. What a joke.
Well, you could say that a company that gives a fuck doesn't come out with that kind of product in the first place. It's cool that they exchange it for free, though.

DALLAS - A new report from media research firm Parks Associates confirms Blu-ray's lead over HD DVD as the dominant next-gen video format. The report projects an 85% increase in sales of Blu-ray and HD DVD players over the next four years, from 4.9 million units in 2007 to over 32 million in 2011.

"Purchasing or renting DVDs will continue to be a dominant way for consumers to view content," said Parks Associates research analyst Chris Roden. "What has yet to be determined is which format will become the standard, HD DVD or Blu-ray? However, we are starting to see the pendulum swing slowly in one direction. Recent retail developments, support from major Hollywood studios, and inclusion of the format in the PlayStation 3 puts the Blu-ray format in the lead."

But HD DVD remains the adult industry's hi-def format of choice, mainly due to the limited availability and high cost of replication. Vivid's Debbie Does Dallas remains the only licensed, copy-protected adult Blu-ray disc on the market; web-based CDGirls.com has been selling its own Blu-ray porn discs in January, minus the copy protection, and Anabolic Digital has announced plans to issue its gonzo movie Penetration 13 on Blu-ray.

Tom Funk of adult company High Def XXX told AVN, "'Winning' is a relative term. Blu-ray is selling more, but it's not like there's going to be a winner or a loser. These will eventually converge the way that DVD R and DVD-R converged. The adult industry will be using HD DVD primarily; even if a few Blu-rays come out, HD DVD will be far and away the preferred format because of cost. I am preparing to do a Blu-ray, but it's so expensive; I mean, it's literally gonna be close to $10,000 to release a title, and that's for just like 1,000 discs. But I do have the capability of doing it. If somebody came along and said, 'Here's $10,000, put one of your titles into Blu-ray,' I'd allocate that money and boom, we'd have it in a month."

High Def XXX currently authors HD DVD titles for Adam & Eve, CD Girls, LFP, Nicholas Steel and Platinum Blue, and has pending deals with New Sensations and Evil Angel. All High Def XXX titles are released in HD DVD and dual WMV-HD/standard disc format simultaneously, bundled together in each unit.

"There are quite a few companies that are interested in starting to release on HD DVD, and I guarantee none of them want to pay the price tag of Blu-ray. From the adult industry perspective, there are quite a few plans in the works, it's just taking a little bit of time to ramp up to it. As the prices of the players continue to come down, that'll mean more players are out there. I get more and more calls from stores saying, 'Yeah, we get people asking about it.' Or stores that we do sell to say, 'Yeah, they sell pretty quickly.' "

On the costs of replication on Blu-ray coming down enough for adult studios to afford, Funk remarked: "They will, but you have to remember that the cost of upgrading to HD DVD is actually fairly small. The cost of Blu-ray is not upgrades; it's a whole new, from-scratch system [that costs] $3 million. There's not enough Blu-ray out there to really justify more than like eight of them in the world at this point. And I think it will be a while before the cost comes down. Because they still need to recoup their $3 million -- and the cost of licensing and everything else that they have to pay. That's going to keep the price up; it's not going to come down anywhere near HD DVD anytime soon."

No, you actually couldn't... every company has put out something faulty or not quite right before. If they left the product on the market and never fixed it, then it would be obvious that they didn't give a fuck. If they remastered it but made the people who bought the original re-purchase, then it would be obvious that they didn't give a fuck. Instead, they listened to the complaints about the initial release and fixed them. They didn't have to, because it sold and would still sell even if they didn't, and they certainly didn't have to replace discs for free. What they did was pretty classy.

Is The Rock encode any good, love the movie

Yeah, it's really good in places. Some scenes do look a little blurry but 90% of the movie looks absolutely amazing - there's some very good photos of it here:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=868781&page=2

Con Air looks even better than The Rock though. I didn't expect that to happen but Con Air looks superb. Both films have AVC transfers (VERY high bitrates), and have two of the most amazing PCM soundtracks I've ever heard. Con Air was a bit of an impulse purchase but I had to buy The Rock - it's one of my favourite action films ever

btw both are completely region-free. It might cost a bit more than a normal American Bluray, but you can import it from Amazon UK for about $45 iirc

I may crack and get the import... :/

just watched infernal affairs. the encode seems to be good -- high bitrate avc -- but it's soft in places. i suspect the master is that way. subtitles are a little stilted, but i've seen much worse.

first time i've seen the movie. and it's amazing. i think i might like it better than the departed -- it's just so lean and tense and suggestive in comparison. lau and leung are both amazing -- the few scenes where they get to play off each other are great. they're so much more restrained and opaque than damon and dicaprio. who were actually great too. and i love how placid shots of hong kong skylines start to seem literally hellish by the end of the movie. i'm seriously kind of jazzed here. i have to watch the departed again -- i'm glad there are two movies -- they sort of illuminate each other

are the infernal affairs sequels worth watching at all?

Only if you feel you missed something by not seeing Lau getting his come uppance.

Otherwise they're quite disjointed... but they do provide a lot more insight into the history of the characters.

My favourite scene in the movie is the hifi scene in which Lau and Leung are talking about HT gear. The song from that scene is also beautiful... wish the movie came with a copy of that song :p Incidentally it's a scene that's also missing from the Departed... Which is a shame, but probably wouldn't have worked in the same way.

I very much agree Infernal Affairs is better than The Departed. It seems to convey much more and in less running time even! I am thinking of importing the IA Blu-ray since I don't think it's sold in North America.
