I don't think he'll be ignoring this.

has calmed down a bit.
I pre-ordered Blades of Glory earlier today. I saw it at the movies and laughed my butt off during their first dance sequence together.

Paramount/Dreamworks is like an air castle without Spielberg. What a joke of a deal, nice use of money.

The deal includes Shrek and Transformers, two of the big blockbuster hits this year, so I wouldn't assume that. As BR fanboys have been stating in this thread for the last 200 pages, it's the current blockbusters that matter in driving mainstream adoption, not the catalog titles.

I would agree with you except:

HD-DVD did well getting Transformers, but Shrek the Third didn't do all that well at the box office, if I remember correctly.

Are you going to continue to phrase things like a complete asshole? No "BR fanboy" that I've seen has understated the importance of Transformers or Shrek 3. Please get off of your high horse because, fun fact: Your format of choice has been taking a pantless stroll through Rape City as far as sales is concerned for the entire year with no end in sight.

Take two steps back, a few deep breaths, think about how much of a dick you are being and fucking relax already. Hell, most of us have even learned to like you, but since this Paramount news you are becoming totally unbearable. Please get this shit under control.

Transformers is a big hit and will sell well. Shrek 3 not so much, now if they get out 1 and 2 before the holidays to go with 3 that could big as well.

Also another chance for me to say Shrek 3 is the biggest pile of shit I have seen in a long, long time.

To be sure, without Spielberg, this deal isn't as grand as it might be, but...

Spielberg's movies will still be on HD-DVD, just not exclusively.

What will be on HD-DVD now, exclusively is Shrek 3, Transformers, The Godfather, The Jack Ryan movies, Titanic, Mission Impossibles, Star Trek movies, Forrest Gump, Ghost, and others.

Those movies are pretty huge hits as well as titles that can attract a wide array of viewers. It is a pretty huge deal, to say the least.

Transformers will be missed.. I'll aquire the DVD version of the movie and hold out till it hits BD.

Not interested in Shrek 3. Pixar is where I go for my animation fix. :)

Shrek the Third did well over 300 million at the box office (> 700 million worldwide). That says nothing of its quality, but it was definitely a successful movie in theaters. Stands to reason it will be in the home market.

Why wouldn't you wait until the BD? Why spend money when you know wou're going to do it again?

If he releases them at all. He has not voiced support in anyway for HD DVD yet. He may wait till he can put them out on BD.

Shrek 3 did a massive 320 million. Second highest film gross this year (and yes, higher than Transformers).

Vehement support of a one format future and pointing out of serious inconsistencies in arguments is absolutely not equivalent to making false inferences about an entire body of supporters in a completely dickish manner.

It seems that according to their studies, the people that buy stand alone players - buy more dedicated film product... so, due to Toshiba's commitment to getting quality equipment at the under $300 barrier - means to the execs at Paramount, that this is the format to support.

I see they're using the "let's ignore the PS3" tactic combined with the "let's ignore sales" angle. Now this shit's just getting ridiculous :lol

It is pretty much PR spoon fed to them from the HD DVD people. It is clear they were bought out, why don't they just state we already know how much they recieved.

To check out the aftermath of the news (an also pick up some limes across the street) and noticed a few things.

1) The Blu-ray software section is larger than the HDDVD section at the Nepean Best Buy. BD has 3 shelving units while HDDVD has 2.
2) TMNT for Blu-ray wasn't released in Canada? What gives? I checked futureshop as well. no Blu-ray discs. They did have HDDVD TMNT so I was a bit disappointed.
3) Flags of our fathers is sold out at BB but not FS. I got the second last copy of Letters at Future. Are these titles affected by yesterday's announcement?

Moral of the story. It's business as usual, people are buying Bioshock like crazy and I'm going to enjoy a Caesar for my holidays. :D
