Are you trying to say that

a) the outcomes "HD DVD wins" or "DD winds" aren't favorable to MS

and that therefore

b) self-admitted MS marketer is not actually an MS marketer?

Google the Enderle Group and check out his site. Really, check it out.

:lol I love the part about hard drives, because it simply isn't true.

While he talks about large hard drives, he conveniently forgets that DVDs (and any future optical format) are orders cheaper than any portable hard drive. Reliability is another factor too.

He also talks like you'll go down to Blockbuster tomorrow and get a movie on a hard drive. I mean really, there ae some valid things to say - but this guys credibility and analysis is awful.

What the fuck is ruckus?
I had to look that up too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruckus_Network
Ruckus Network, currently based in Herndon, Virginia, is backed by venture capitalists Battery Ventures [2] and Shelter Capital [3]. With its official launch in September of 2004 at Northern Illinois University, Ruckus became the first online music service focused exclusively on the college market.[citation needed]

In January of 2006, Ruckus moved away from its subscription business model in favor of one that was ad-subsidized. This change eliminated the previous monthly fee required for site access and granted users cost-free entry to use the service[4]. By November 2006, Ruckus had officially partnered with 80 colleges and universities and five state-wide network systems, which support over 200 higher education institutions.[citation needed]

On January 22, 2007, Ruckus announced that access to their music library, which was previously available only at schools with contractual agreements, can be accessed by any college student with a valid college (.edu) email account. [5]

Ruckus was co-founded in 2003 by then MBA students, David Galper and Vincent Han, while attending the MIT Sloan School of Management.
how something that is only good for college students is going to beat iTunes is way beyond me. like, an order of magnitude beyond me. Especially when:
Features and restrictions

* Pricing: Free to all students with a valid .edu email address. $8.99/month for alumni and college faculty.
* Platform(s): Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista only.
* Downloading: Yes.
* Burning/Copying: No.

* Streaming: Streaming video content on Ruckus TV. No streaming music content.
* Format: Protected Windows Media Audio (WMA) and Windows Media Video (WMV) format.
* Digital restrictions: No burning to compact discs. Limited player support. Files contain embedded licenses that must be renewed periodically.
* Preview: None.
* Trial: None.
* Catalog: Over 3 million files.
* Features: Adding "friends", friend-to-friend music recommendations, user messaging, music search function, streaming video content from Ruckus TV and a television/film library.
* Global availability: Ruckus is only available to college undergraduates, alumni and faculty located in the United States.
* Customer Support: Website only. [6]

You seriously did not just post a facebook poll as some kind of valid information....
Did I said "WOW, HD-DVD IS TEH WINNING?" No, I did not... I am complaining about the fact that I wasn't able to participate, AND it's related to the topic...

Why do some people always assume others are a bunch of retards?!

The internets are something that never leave you, it is like...when you close your eyes you can still hear the screaming....the explosions.....it makes you jumpy.

Life of Brian is one of my favorite films of all time. Probably won't benefit much from HD though.

I remember seeing Holy Grail for the first time on DVD and was blown away by how amazing it looked in comparison to how I'd seen it on tv and Vhs. Brian has higher production values so I'm expecting a really massive diff on Blu-Ray over the versions I've seen of it in the past.

Will drop pants for Sony.
ARRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHH, HEROES is on now in wonderful beautiful HD glory.... woe is me, I have to buy the dvd set.

I love how you randomely come into the thread to interject some farfetched irrelevant point about every 75 pages.

Facebook has zero relevance to anything in this thread. However Facebook, since your trying to justify ruckus as some itunes killer by "pointing at facebook," facebook became popular because it used to be so that only .edu people could sign up for an account(they fucked that one up). And it is orders of magnitude more user friendly, convenient, than myspace.

Not to mention just looking at the ruckus bullshit, having a .edu account only music service is retarded, espescially since everyone and their brother and dog at universities have IPODS, which is ding ding ding compatible with the free itunes, and the ipod is not compatible with .wma or .wmv, however Itunes will conveniently convert .wma files to a format of your choosing.

Well actually, my point was a little more subtle than that. Explicitly targeting colleges as a market does work. I know nothing about Ruckus other than what was pasted in here and I don't really care very much. I actually don't even know wtf is has to do with this thread anyways.

Also, the idea that every product in a market is designed to 'kill' or 'destroy' the current top dog is such a ridiculous notion. In fact, facebook has not, afaik, destroyed myspace either. Markets have niches, and companies often fill them without a hope to decimate the competition. Facebook and myspace occupy pretty clearly different niches that anyone with half a brain should be able to tell apart.

It seems like video game nerds are the most likely to hold this all-or-nothing perspective, and it shows in how they react to the hddvd/bluray war.

No, no. What?

Look at what he bolded. I agreed that MS really wanted HD DVD to win. To the point where they would pay off viral marketers. :lol

Funny movie, but a pretty meh transfer.

I disagree, I think for an old movie, it looks really good. I didn't expect that film to look as nice as it did, but then again, I haven't seen a ton of old movies on HD.

Did anyone post the results of this Facebook poll?

"HD-DVD or Blu-Ray?"

Blu-Ray: 34%
HD-DVD: 64%

Females: 80% HD-DVD, 20% Blu-Ray
Males: 58% HD-DVD, 42% Blu-Ray

13-17: 75% HD-DVD, 25% Blu-Ray
18-24: 63% HD-DVD, 37% Blu-Ray
25-34: 55% HD-DVD, 45% Blu-Ray
35-49: 71% HD-DVD, 29% Blu-Ray

From the looks of it, grabbing the DVD name was important. People among the group likely be most educated on the topic were split nearly 50/50 (Males in general, people from 25-34 years old). The farther you get away from that group (the young, the old, or female) the stronger hold the DVD name seems to have.

Well I am tired of this 2 format crap, just am, I want to watch all my hd movies on my ps3 and be done with it.

Why should i buy an add on for the 360, when my 360 does not even have hdmi? I know i do not need hdmi to play hd movies, but i prefer my hd movies through hdmi.

So i guess i have to buy an all new 360 with an add on, if i want hdmi and how much would that end up costing me? then microsoft will probably come out with another sku adding hd-dvd drive in it along with wi-fi, hey don't say they won't they added hdmi and 1080p even after saying it does not matter. I just want an all in one system and the ps3 mets those needs. If the 360 had an an hd-drive from the start, i probably would be supporting hd-dvd.

Somehow I find it sad that next-gen movies are so inextricably linked to game consoles this time around. Granted, PS3 is a great Blu-ray player, but damn if the connection hasn't hurt PS3 as a game console and damn if the fact that a game console is the #1 selling Blu-ray player isn't a double-edged sword for the format.

I guess we've all got something to bitch about.

I two, plan on buying absolutely no HD-DVDs.

I have no HD-DVD player.

you think that's bad?
Black Hawk Down $13.99
Casino Royale $-
Final Fantasy: SW $26.91
Flags Of Our Fathers $29.99
Hellboy: DC $-
Kung Fu Hustle $13.99
Layer Cake $24.99
Letters From Iwo Jima $29.99
Monster House $27.29
Planet Earth $99.99
A Scanner Darkly $17.00
Superman $24.99
Superman 2 $24.99
Superman Returns $21.87
TMNT $21.87
Those purchases are since Aug 01 (tax is figured into those I didn't buy in Oregon) and I'm sure I'm going to spend at least $300 more this fall, and that's not counting games.
