StoOgE said:Thats the good news about me buying my HDA2 last week.. some poor fool payed 150 bucks for a 360 add on with no movies. :lol
Edit: they are still going for over 100 bucks. There are certain people that just assume ebay = cheaper. So they may not even know about the sale.

* I promise not to say anything that corny again today.
Venturer Electronics today announced the launch of its first HD DVD player for the North American market. Responding to strong consumer demand for high definition video playback devices, Venturer will introduce the SHD7000 that offers the superior HD movie experience as defined by the DVD Forum. Featuring 1080i video output and an HDMI connection, the SHD7000 is designed to be compatible with the vast majority of HDTVs already in North American consumers' homes. With Ethernet connectivity to the network , the SHD7000 also allows users to access bonus features from movie studio web servers and unlock special prerecorded content on some HD DVD discs. Dolby TrueHD rounds out the high definition experience by presenting the HD DVD disc soundtrack as it was meant to be heard, virtually equal to the studio master. In addition to its HD DVD playback capability, the SHD7000 will upconvert standard DVDs to near HD picture quality via its HDMI connection, allowing a consumer's existing library of DVDs to look better than ever. CD playback is also supported. The SHD7000 will be distributed in North America by Venturer Electronics of Markham, Ontario, and sold through national retailers with retail prices expected to be one of the lowest among entry-level HD DVD players.

That really does seem like the player Wal-Mart will be carrying this fall. It is manufactured by Alcoa, who manufacture Wal-Mart's brand of DVD players. I am expecting a price point of $149.99 in October.VanMardigan said:The return of the Walmart Chinese HD DVD player rumors is right around the corner, folks. BRACE YOURSELVES!!

I don't think many Wal-Mart shoppers will notice 1080i vs 1080p. Most probably wouldn't have 1080p sets.Flo_Evans said:1080i output :lol do not want. Low quality players with shit output are not really going to convince the general public that HD-discs are the future.
Cheesemeister said:"Hey, Wal-Mart! I's done bought my favoritest movie of all-time, Smokey and the Bandit, but it don't plays in mah movie-playin' toaster. What for it don't work, anyhow?! So here I bringed it back so I's can git mah money back an' spen' it on a new carton o' tobaccy."
There is a huge difference between $299 vs $199 or $149. When you get to the $149 point, you are asking the public to spend maybe an extra $50 premium over a regular DVD player for HD-DVD. That is huge.Ignatz Mouse said:1080i is decent for movies, and looks a shitton better than SD.
I wanna know-- do things thing load slowly? have firmware problems? problems playing some discs?
And of course, low prices haven't done much for HD-DVD thus far. Are they really going to make a big difference when sub-$300 BD players are available as well?

And the reduction of HD-DVD players to $299 HAS dramatically increased HD-DVD player sales. Remember, up until about 2-3 months ago HD-DVD players were $400+.
BTW, when are we supposed to see sub-$300 BD players? This fall? I haven't read any news about that. Could you direct me to a link or thread? Thanks.
KachoMakura said:Uhh, 1080i can look just as good as 1080p, it all depends on your TV.

The very nature of the BD consortium vs the HD-DVD consortium gives HD-DVD the price cutting advantage. If BD players were cut to the point where they aren't profitable, the BD CE companies would jump ship.Ignatz Mouse said:In order:
3) It's my guess, based on how fast DVD, HD DVD, and other electronics proces have dropped. I imagine we'll see list prices ~$400 by Black Friday and street prices/deals getting that down under $300. I would bet on it. For some reason the pro-Red camp seems to think BluRay prices can't go lower.
I think BD players will drop this holiday further, but not by nearly the margin HD-DVD players will. The reason I say so is because we have evidence that the Chinese HD-DVD players are coming, and that one of the brands will most likely be carried at Wal-Mart, who will want it to be a cheap as possible. Already, the last gen Toshiba players are rumored to go to an MSRP of $249.99 - $199.99 by next month.Ignatz Mouse said:Ypu *have* noticed that BD player prices, while starting high, have come down at about the same rate? DO you think another price drop before the holidays is impossible,a nd can you back that up?
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Industry_Trends/Venturer/Hardware/Venturer_to_Release_Budget_HD_DVD_Player_for_the_Holidays/905With Toshiba's HD-A2 retailing at under $250, and the Xbox 360 Add-on at under $179, it's a good bet that the Venturer player might break below the $150 mark.

If I hadnt just bought an HDA2 and HK 247 reciever (coming tommorow lossless audio in the whole house!) I would be all over that deal.

Jaw-dropping gorgeous. I quickly put in King Kong (t-rex fight) and Planet Earth, and I've never seen anything more beautiful. I'm in love. I then put in Eternal Sonata demo (for the bright colors) and finally Gears of War. I'd heard many reviewers talking about an HD movie with a good transfer looking "3D" and I didn't understand what that meant.........until now. There were scenes in King Kong and Planet Earth that were truly popping out the screen.
Anyway, enough gushing. This is the tv I bought, btw.
Venturer is sold only at Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and Sears in the US, and also at some Tire company in Canada.DarkJediKnight said:I'm trying to think of who sells Venturer in Canada. I don't think I've seen them at Future Shop or Best Buy. Is it only Walmart?
