They need to work on HD packaging. The few dvds I do buy (mainly from Japan) have thick booklets and are great quality packages.
They had them, but I dunno, you really think the cost of $24.99+tax+shipping+week wait for item to arrive is cheaper/faster than ordering online?

On the high-definition disc front, "Transformers" was the No. 1 HD DVD seller for the week, while on the Blu-ray Disc charts the first two "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies returned to the two top spots five months after their initial release

You're expectations are little off base..Bebpo said:I expect 70/30 HD-DVD

Bebpo said:190k would be more than most movies sell combined in most weeks. If that's a real number I expect it to be like 90% transformers, 10% everything else.
MaX_PL said:ok i hate this HD DVD promotion. these people get like a million movies for free whereas i only got 3 for free back in july. i'm thinking of going out and buying it again and just selling the drive on ebay for a ~30-40% loss.
Stinkles said:Well, one of them is an FX packed thrillride, full of spectacle and bombast, and the other is a funny comedy set in an English village. So experientially, compressed audio or no, it's Transformers by a country mile.
Oni Jazar said:I really don't see any score as being outside the realm of possibility.
I don't particularly care for the numbers game, prefer BR, and I still predict HD "winning the week" by a larger margin than that...say...anywhere in between 56/44 to 100/0StoOgE said:i think 55/45 hddvd. those bogo sales probably cost 5-10% to hd as well.
brd winning wouldnt surprise me though.

If HD wins the week I will go neutral before the weekend is out.
If not, I stay true blue and wait for hd to die :lol
Meier said:Good GOD, that deal at Best Buy is NUTS. Definitely going down there and picking up another player and Heroes (which I'd been considering getting for awhile). Amazing.

I'll go look for the best deals for a new player fo you right away...
Bebpo said:So you really want to pay $180 for heroes, you're saying?
Meier said:I'll get Heroes, 300, Transformers and at least 4 decent new movies for $180. I can then sell the player, King Kong and another disc for probably 75-100 bucks.
VanMardigan said:Ok, this might be a little long, but this will be very good information for those with a 360 HD DVD add-on and to those considering picking one up with those insane deals:
I put in Transformers earlier this evening, connected to Xbox Live. As expected, the loading screen (now confirmed to be a cookie download) appeared. It took about a minute to download. I guess it depends on your network connection and Dreamwork's server situation to determine just how long you have to wait. The movie played fine. The second time I played the movie, the loading screen took about 5 seconds and then the movie loaded fine.
Naturally, when the wife gets home, I booted up the movie and it froze on the loading screen. Reset the console, and another lock-up. The entire console locks up, meaning you can't exit to the Xbox 360 dashboard. I disconnected my wifi adapter, rebooted my console and booted up the movie. No loading screen, and the movie loaded up just fine. So, after watching the movie, I decided to tinker, and I've come up with some great solutions to this problem:
Solution #1: Disconnect your console from your network. Works like a charm, but unfortunately you won't be logged on to Xbox Live to download demos, trailers, etc. in the background. Not the best solution but good in a pinch.
Solution #2: Boot up your console, and either disconnect from your network or load up a non-web enabled movie. After the movie starts to play, hit the "Display" button on your media center remote, then head to "HD DVD Network Settings". There, uncheck the box titled "Enable Network Access". From this point forward, you can load up any web-enable movie and the cookies won't load, thus preventing the console from locking up and allowing you to watch the movie without issues. The downside to this method is that you won't be able to execute any of the web-enabled extras on the new HD DVD titles with those features, including 300, Freedom Vol. 1-2, Transformers, Knocked Up, etc.
That's where the best solution comes in:
Solution 3: Boot up your console, and either disconnect from your network or load up a non-web enabled movie. After the movie starts to play, hit the "Display" button on your media center remote, then head to "HD DVD Network Settings". There, make sure "HD DVD Network Settings" is checked to allow web-enabled access, but in the "Cookies" section, select "Decline all cookies". This will allow you to access the web enabled content, and at the same time block the cookie loading when you boot up the movie, preventing any lock up issues.
Now, I tested Transformers with the cookies blocked and I was able to still download the widget with the robot life bars, GPS locations, character info, etc. I'll test it further to see if 300's web-enabled extras like sharing your edition of the movie is affected by blocking the cookies. I did test this on Knocked Up, and it booted up fine without any loading screens, though I haven't tried registering with Universal to use that disc's web features. Let me know if you have any issues, but I think solution #3 is a real winner right now. I'll update once I get to do more tests.
VanMardigan said:That's a fine deal if you don't care about King Kong. Also, if you pick a gen 3 Toshiba standalone, you get two more movies in the box, 300 and Bourne Identity. So if you're thinking of doing that (and you're able to pull it off), don't pick either of those movies up with your add-on.

now that you can get 2 free HD DVD's on top of Heroes Season 1, seems the best buy system made a boo boo and is letting people get boxed sets...
If I had an XBox 360 and didn't own Heroes I would definitely jump on this deal... I already have Heroes though, so even if I get one in anticipation of one day owning an XBox doesn't seems worth it right now... also, I'd feel a little guilty trying to sneak off with boxed sets knowing that is not the Best Buy's intention (despite hating their corporate policies and they way they screw consumers)...

Bebpo said:I wonder what's up with the lack of subs?
I can understand Bebop as Sony might have a lock on the English sub/dub, but Escaflowne? It's almost like they found out *gasp* people imported their earlier ones and it scared them off because Japan is so anti-export.
Without subs I'm tempted to wait and see if these are coming to the US since I can't watch them with friends. If there's never any US version I'd get everything except F91...though still might get F91. Would rather have Endless Waltz
Bebpo said:Hey, what's the best deal you can get for buying a PS3 Blu-ray player in terms of free movies?
I need to get one for my brother for x-mas and figure I will grab the $400 model. When do I need to get it by in order to be eligible for the free movie deals?
