I wish HD DVD would just die already. Microsoft is artificially propping up the format and it would have died already if they weren't pandering to the short term greed of some studios by bribing them.

VanMardigan

These BOGO deals always seem to be the same movies, unfortunately. And about the linked Warner article, that's very interesting. I don't know anything about the source, but they speak of the Warner deal as a sure thing. It's going to be a fun CES, for sure.

How long are posts like this going to keep appearing in this thread? Why is it that people can't let the MS conspiracy crap die? Enough already...

I hadn't been inside a Sam's Club for a long time (Costco is just around the corner from me), but I went on Saturday and noticed that they only carried Blu-ray. Is this in every store, or was this specific?

How ironic. I wish Blu-Ray would die already. Sony's PS3 is artificially propping up the format and... blah blah blah.

Shut up. ;)

Where can I go to find HD DVD/Blu Ray release dates? I'm trying to update my netflix queue but high def digest is down for whatever reason.

Got my five free Blu-rays today, and man... three of them ended up being replacements. So now I have Click, Invincible, and Phantom of the Opera, all of which I have absolutely no use for. Grr.

has calmed down a bit.
Thanks for the list.

edit: I got HDD to load, and Paramount and Best Buy are having a starter pack sale. Basically buy two, get one free, but you don't pick the titles:

Four Brothers
Shooter
Italian Job (2003)

Pack 2:
The Warriors: Ultimate Director's Cut
Aeon Flux
Payback: Straight Up - The Director's Cut

Pack 3:
Anchorman
Blades of Glory
Old School

Pack 4:
Lara Croft: **** Raider
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Sleepy Hollow

$49.95 per pack. I would love to have the Will Ferrell one but I already own Blades of Glory. :(

It's just another analysist. There's nothing hinting that they know anything more than anyone else does.

Yes, a fun CES for sure.

May not be any need to wait - have you checked your order status recently? They sent my HD DVD set overnight today, so I'll have it on the release date. I thought that was a nice bonus - I presumed they wanted to get them out of their warehouse before they had to destroy their HD DVD stock :lol .

That's pretty sweet. I'd get the Ferrell pack for sure. Too bad it's a US only deal (at least for now).

Nope, sorry. I just... I've never been a huge sports person, and while I do enjoy watching a bit of it (mostly college football), the idea of watching a movie about sports just sounds like one of the absolutely dullest things I could do. I don't care about the people involved in sports, so I don't care about their stories. (That sounds a bit harsh, but I'm just being honest.)

I haven't checked...well because I can't..but anyways... :-/

The way they handle things over there I have no confidence on what they do. I'm still waiting for two kubrick BR that I ordered in september and oceans box set as well. I've read things about Warner shipping out newer orders before older orders. I'll be happy if I get the set in time but I'm not counting on it.

UK gets many blus before the us ( not that this would apply in this case of course ), but Potters, Simpsons, and most others all hit there first.

Where? They broke the street date it seems (it happens often at my local Wal-Mart).

They didn't - it was released a while ago in Europe. But Europe gets shafted by only getting the Final Cut edition, and America gets five versions!

That list can't be right can it? I bought the Blade Runner HD-DVD in the shops last Friday...
You bought the UK one which is just one cut of the film. In the US they get a five disc version with three cuts.

My US HD DVD of it shipped today, so huzzah! I should get it before the US street date.

Hm, crazy. So I got the Final Cut then? Is that more like the old Directors Cut that I have on DVD? I don't give a shit about the theatrical release...

So, to the dual format owners, what will you do different (if anything) come CES if Warner makes a move to either camp?

Will your buying habits change? Will you sell of discs?

And will anyone still buy my 360 add on?

Are any of the titles you bought with it affected by a Warner move? Me, on the other hand, I own Batman Begins, 300, and Happy Feet (edit: and the Matrix Trilogy). I could probably sell the HD DVD version of Happy Feet for the Blu Ray version, but I'm not replacing 300 or Batman Begins until comparable releases for those come out on Camp Blu. That's if Warner goes Blu.

If they go red, there won't be any difference in my buying habits, since I already prefer the HD DVD version of Warner films and I don't own any Warner Blu Rays.

If they go Blu-ray, then I'll stop having the hesitation that I feel every time I buy a Blu-ray title. (I swore I wasn't going to buy any, but after getting my HDTV, the few movies I've purchased I just could not bring myself to get on DVD.)

If they go HD-DVD, then I'll have a tough decision to make. Either I decide if I can live with myself if I purchase more Blu-ray titles and it ends up not being the market leader, or I go dual format. (Which I really, really don't want to do.)

If Warner were to go HD-DVD, and HD-DVD was on track to be the market leader, then I'd want to see a complete and total jump by the studios to HD-DVD (though obviously Sony would go kicking and screaming once they did) ASAP. I'd then sell off any Blu-ray titles I own that are on both formats, and make the switch to having an HD-DVD only library.

What Shidoshi said.

If WB goes Red and there doesn't seem to be an emerging market leader, I'll get an HD-DVD player but slow my overall HD buying habits, preparing for a laser-disc-like future.

If Warner goes Red, I expect Fox/Disney to follow in 2008. If they go Blu, I expect Uni to follow, with Paramount by the end of 2008. I don't see how Warner picking a side won't give that side a clear advantage in terms of momentum for 2008.

DoubleTap

If WB goes Red, I see the status quo remaining. Just because Blu's marketshare is so huge I don't see anyone from Blu jumping sides. So no change for me. If WB goes Blu then it's all Blu for new releases and will be bargain hunting for the remaining HD DVD library.

I don't see the point of selling the discs you already own for the other format if they both have the same features and encode.

Did any dual format owners actually sell their Paramount BD titles after they moved to HD DVD exclusively?

I'll just keep my HD DVD Warner titles and buy all their future releases on BD if they decide to go Blu.
