The family is still asleep, but early (or Birthday) presents so far include the HP Box set, Blade Runner non-briefcase edition, and Pan's Labyrinth all on Blu-ray.
I don't think there are any more movies waiting for me, but never can be sure!

I didn't get any Blu-ray movies so far, all DVDs (Planet Terror, Death Proof, Saw trilogy). I really, really wish Grindhouse was available in HD.

I've received The Simpsons Movie and Order of the Phoenix on Blu-ray so far, I've got $25 to use at Target, and $90 at Amazon, so I'll be able to get the rest of the HP movies, easily.

I'm kind of kicking around the idea of getting that LG hybrid HD DVD/Blu-Ray PC drive. It costs 300 dollars and allows RW burning for all formats except HD DVD and Blu-Ray, where it is read only. But since I don't burn anything on CDs or DVDs now, I don't really see a need for the HD formats' storage space given the use of external hard drives(iPods, etc) for transportation of data.
Anyone have experience with this drive at all? GGC-H20L, that's the model number. I do have a 1080p HDTV as my computer monitor and it does have HDCP under Vista driven by an 8000GTX with a DVI --> HDMI connection. I also know there is a text problem with nVidia cards under HDCP mode in Vista, but apparently it doesn't affect movies at all.
I have Casino Royale on Blu-Ray and for some reason I am kind of itching to start getting other movies in HD formats.

RE: Blade Runner from WHV - my CC still has no charges on it and my order status page still says canceled. I hope I get it for free but since I wanted it anyway (and the cheapest local place still charges 8.2% tax) I'll keep it since I used the 25% coupon to get it.

I know a lot of the BD guys complaing about this, have there been any HD DVD versions of this (or any other Warner title) with actual BD discs inside? I made sure to open my Blade Runner just to make sure there wasn't an HD DVD inside :lol

just noticed this while opening my BR set:
also, only D5 was loose but it didn't have any scratches. Now I just need to find out whether it's actually D5 or D1 with a different label. Can't do that until later though, off to the in-laws.

My Blade Runner (BD) non-suitcase boxset showed up on Saturday. What a crappy case. Hell of a deal, though.

Got a chance to finally sit down and watch a few movies. Bourne was flipping awesome never saw it in the theater. The PQ and SQ are out flat out awesome. I am watching superbad right now. I wish I had a blu player also but the upscaling on the A3 is solid and makes it easier to tolerate. God damn it sony release a 1.1 or 2.0 player around 200 dollars so I can give up DVD for ever. My only regret now I really wanna upgrade to a HDMI reciever and new speakers to really take full advantage. Tax return season is coming very soon hmmm.

Santa kept it Blu at our house this year. Total Recall, The Pixar Shorts compilation, and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, and a gift card for some Kubrick BRD action. Looking forward to some 1080p CG animation - if they are made from the original digital masters it should look fucking stunning.

Got my first HD-DVD for X-Mas, Top Gun. Nothing like opening a gift that you know is a movie only to realize it's an HD-DVD, and that you don't own an HD-DVD player nor do you want to lol. Shame really, if Paramount had waited a couple weeks to cash that check i could have actually owned Top Gun on BD. At least i won't have to be the one waiting in the return line .

I got some nice presents movie wise and all Blu-Ray ones : Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter: The Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter: The Order of the Phoenix, and Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End.
I think that TOotP is one of those titles (like PotC 3) which is using Blu-Ray Profile 1.1 given the warning about upgrading the firmware of the Blu-Ray player, etc... and I do welcome the real-time interactive Language/Scene Selection/Extras menu popping up when you press the Square button on the PS3's controller.
The HP movies have quite good video and audio quality (even on the TV's speakers, so no fancy 5.1/7.1 channels set-up, the LPCM track does sound a bit louder and crisper than the standard Dolby Digital one). Video-wise, the picture is clean and crisp (except some sequences like the panning over the open field... the field could be a bit less blurry... think about Silent Hill and a similar camera motion) well nice to see VC-1 used in Blu-Ray movies (the ones I have are mostly AVC and one MPEG 2 IIRC) although the bit-rate is a bit low compared to some peaks I have seen in movies like FF: TSW (over 40 Mbps).

Picked up LOST: Season 3 on Blu-ray today for $24.99 CDN due to a pricing error on Future Shop's website... I had them price match it in-store rather than ordering it online so they couldn't back out and be all 'OMG PRICING MISTAKE, YOU DON'T GET IT FOR THAT PRICE!!!1'
