So Best Buy is going to have Superbad (Blu-ray) on sale for $19.99 starting Sunday. If go buy it now, can I take it back on Sunday to get the $10 difference, or would I be better off waiting until Sunday and picking it up then?

First tragedy, then farce.
Does anyone know how Paramount Vantage works?

Do they own the distribution rights, or just help fund movies?

I ask because they are involved in there will be blood, which looks amazing. But so is Miramax. So I dont know who gets the movie.

Paramount Vantage/Miramax were also involved with No Country for Old Men. which is seeing a Blu-ray release via Miramax.

According to IMDB, it looks like Paramount will more than likely have home distribution rights, which looks like it will be HD-DVD only for the time being.

thats why I was hoping for an HDDVD of no country, but that didnt work out, so who knows. Stupid format war.

Miramax has US distribution rights to No Country (North American Blu-ray), while they have non-USA rights to There Will be Blood (European Blu-ray?). Paramount has the non-USA rights to No Country (European HD-DVD?), and the US distribution rights to There Will be Blood (North American HD-DVD?).

Aside from the NA Blu-ray of No Country, this is all speculation.

told ya'll the post xmas "lets dump excess inventory" sales were on the way. :lol

BOGO's, slashed prices, etc. Plus, these companies know alot of these new players were gifts, and the giftees are looking for movies for their new HD toys. Heck, I just bought the potter movies, and Im not all that crazy about them.

WTF? Lame. I hope this doesn't become standard, as I'm saving up for a PS3 for next year, and unless Sony releases a BR player with the media networking stuff, the PS3 is the only player I'll be looking at.

10 decent to good HD DVD's for $80 is much easier to swallow than the $24.99 price point Best Buy usually has (even more for some of these like Knocked Up).

I'm hoping I can get a partial refund since the HD-A3 is about $20 cheaper on amazon.com than when I ordered it a few days ago (still w/ the 10 free movies), so I will have essentially gotten a player + 20 movies for less than $250.

If only I cared about Harry Potter I might have gotten those movies too. I haven't seen any of them yet because I want to read the books first. I almost relented on getting Knocked Up and Evan Almighty since I now prefer non-combo discs. I want to put all my movies in folders and binders and leave all the cases back home for less clutter in my dorm, but with combo discs I'm scared of leaving part of one side exposed in some instances. That said, I figured at under $10 each, it wasn't so bad and it's not like Universal is gonna be releasing HD DVD-only discs for new releases anytime soon.

merry HD christmas everyone. (i know i'm a day late, sorry)

had some best buy gift cards so i ran over there today and picked up bourne and the kingdom on hd-dvd, and while i was handing the cashier my gift cards my girlfriend was looking through the ad they had on the counter, and noticed there's a buy 2 get 1 free sale going on, so i snagged inside man for free. w00t!!!

hope everyone is enjoying any new players/movies they recieved over the holiday. i skimmed through the thread after my ban, seems a lot of you got blade runner in high def. hope everyone likes it just as much as me.

happy holidays :)

This much can be said:

Even with all the BOGO's BD had this past year at Amazon not one BD title EVER hit #1 in the overall DVD sales category. Much less #1-4 at one time.

I would think that it could have something to do with the fact that blu has never put a movie released within the last thirty days on sale + bogo at amazon but I could be off.

A lot of people received standalones for Xmas, and Harry Potter is nearly irresistible for that price. I know that I gave my parents one of the $99 A3s, and they ordered the 4 HPs plus another two discs.

I bought Fearless and Casino for $27.95 from amazon's BOGO HD-DVD sale. I almost bought all four Harry Potter movies too, but I decided to wait a few years for all the HP movies to come out on HD-DVD/Bluray.

Excellent BOGO - next to Blu comes I hope we get some better titles to select from. No doubt that if Blu had Harry Potter titles they would be selling like mad as well.

I'm jealous - some GREAT titles to be found in that sale.
