They simply can't justify the expenditure until that happens.

Or they may just wait until the mass market picks it up...lots of money is being lossed released early. You release later you most likely will sell more as it seems newer with other new releases.

How is Blu-Ray selling compared to DVD now? It's being pushed now by everyone and there's no excuses anymore. It should start making an impact now.

I'm really starting to get fed up with both HomeTheaterForum and AVS continuing this ridiculous "We Support both Formats" line. Moderators and owners of both forums frequently expound on the importance of having one format, but they certainly haven't helped the enthusiast community along to that goal in any shape or form throughout this format war by refusing to pick sides.

I need not mention how both places have always seemed biased toward HD-DVD in both the moderation of the forums and statements made by the forum owners and "staff." At this point, they're not even reading the writing on the wall as well as the studios or the retailers, while they continue their blatant HD-DVD bias based moderation of the discussions.

The point being that mass market adoption is unlikely until the format war is over.

I only browse the blu-ray.com forums now.

HDD and AVS are festering shitholes filled with posters 1000x worse than Nicodimas and 1000x as serious.

[Nicodemas]This is great news for HD DVD. Now that Netflix no longer carries HD DVD, more HD DVD owners will buy movies instead of rent them. HD DVD sales will surge, and Disney and Fox will begin supporting HD DVD[/Nicodemas]

Seriously though Hd-dvd is on Life support.I awaiting for the next big move because it should happen.. It ain't over until Uni/paramount switch ok guys? I can argue my point until this happens. So keep praying because at this point you guys must be confused as hell why this has not occured~ I would be.

Its not confusing ... there are likely some contractual obligations still being rendered.

That said, I will concede the point it ain't 'over' until they switch or go neutral.

I will say this however, HDD's BD import forum is quite useful. http://forums.highdefdigest.com/forumdisplay.php?f=68

blu-ray.com is pretty good though ... definitely less assholes.

Why wouldn't it be? Everyone is on the same boat :lol

HDD is awful, I check out the smackdown forum for a few laughs then go check out the HD DVD or the BD sections. AVS's moderators are much better than before. You can't really keep a topic with a decent discussion when people keep replying with one-liners like "it's dead", "no it's not", "it's over", "not until X switches over"........And the more it goes, the less the discussion has to do with the original topic.

Even though not many people frequent it, I personally like the DVD Talk Forum.

Weird ... I've been looking through HDD's BD import subforum (where NO platform bashing is allowed) ... and found some interesting info.

All US HD-DVD-only releases that Warner has distribution rights to in the UK (mostly Paramount ones iirc) ... are announced to be region-free.

Beyond that however, nearly all of them have lossless audio ... whereas the Paramount releases on HD-DVD are nearly all DD+ (and some at 640k, ie. DD).

Oh ... and holy shit ...

Problem is, Uni and Paramount have made their move. You think it's any accident that they're sitting by doing next to nothing as the likes of Netflix and Best Buy state their plans to focus on BD? Do you really think they're waiting until after such decisions are made just to increase the drama?

Contractual obligations are at play here.

They're being held by the balls from Toshiba.

So, we'll play a waiting game until Toshiba throws in the towel or Universal/Paramount can opt out.

I realize that. That's my point - they're obviously doing the bare minimum that they're contractually obligated to do at this point, which is clearly the decision they've made.

Exactly.
Contrary to what people may want to say, there are still cards that have to enter play before Paramount and to a lesser degree Universal can move.
A direct money offer can not get them out of their contractual obligations, the hd-dvd format itself has to reach a point of liability and then they can move.
This is not random, and these happenings are not lucky breaks.

Hells yeah. I was walking past my local Blockbuster when that was released on DVD and they had the cover blown up on a poster in the window. I just went straight in and bought it on the spot. "Great film isn't it?" asked the bloke behind the counter. "Yeah, sure" I hastily agreed. I had no fucking idea.

Luckily it was pretty good, but that's the only time sex has ever directly sold me anything. It was like an out of body experience where my balls basically took over my entire being and spent £15 of my hard earned.

BTW, the DVD cover was better cos it didn't have the red banding or the M covering her cooch:

Sleeping Beauty, I couldn't remember which one I just knew I saw one of them coming out.

And for Onix i've seen Paprika on BD and those DBZ Broly movies. I wasn't expecting much from the DBZ movies but they were hyping how they remastered them in 1080p and all that jazz, but i'm just not seeing it with animation.

Now CG like Ratatoullie on the otherhand is unbelievable and hands down the best thing in HD.

still doesnt matter to me, we sell hd-dvd add on for 360 like crazy we cant keep them in stock, but those pscraps with gay ray are still on the shelves...

and why do u think we sell hd-dvd add on all the time, we have them both set up next to each other on the same tv with some of the same movies, and we the customers finish seeing them, they leave with a 360 and hd-dvd add on or they leave with the hd-dvd player, poor sony is left without a customer...

all this war is about money, who is willing to bank on it all, and thats sony... if toshiba would have put their company on the line, they would have won... but it isnt over yet, nothing is ever over until the customers say so, and i mean every customer, so until hd-dvd never sells a unit or movie then the war will continue, even if it was 99-1 the war will still go on...

so this war will never end...

oh yea, i found out what the big news in march is going to be for, toshiba paramount and universal... and no no no they are not going blu ray ever...

they are teaming up with microsoft fully, and releasing a new format, that everyone has heard of, hd-vmd...

here is the scoop...

they are starting a service where you can download full hd 1080p movies online in as little as 2 hours... plus they are using the vc-2.0 codec, that i was telling everyone about, and yes microsoft owns it and no blu ray will never have it, they have vc-1 but they wont have vc-2.0
... You will also be able to burn these movies to these new discs, best thing is they are plain regular dvds just used with a new technology, where they can get up to 40 gbs on a single layer, lets see blu ray top that... and it supports every codec known to man... When you buy them online, from my source they said that the movies will start at 12-15 dollars for the movies, and the other money coming from people purchasing the discs to burn the movies too...

i think this is it...
digital downloads already, plus you can burn them to a disc, insane... SO long good buddy HD-DVD u will be missed, haha not really these movies can play in your hd-dvd players, dont think toshiba is going to piss off all of its loyal customers... and these wont play in blu ray, man this is cracking me up, how this is going to destroy blu ray and sony's hopes of finally winning a format war, hahaha

hit me back up if you need to know more details about this... i have a few more... i will keep talking to our source and then let everyone know...

The future is blu no more, nor is it red... It's Digital

Later reveals his source as the Microsoft rep for his store :lol

It's not really hard to miss out on some movies. It's not like I can't see them in the cinema or from DVD if a absolutely have to. If you really have to see them in HD just be patient. It's not that hard.

That's not the point. I already have the hardware, and the movies are being released, so what's the point of not buying them if you're netflix? The demand is CLEARLY there for the few they already have, since most HD movies are "long wait" anyway. Bah, I'm done with that. I already switched to BB Online and will hope that they at least hold out until Para/Dreamworks and Uni go neutral. So it's water under the bridge.
