Hillary Clinton: drug legalization won't end the problem

She's not wrong. Legalizing weed would probably hurt, but you're kidding yourself if you think it'd collapse or even harm the cartels significantly.

They've grown beyond drug trafficking at this point. It's profitable, but they've probably diversified in enough legal and illegal revenue streams that losing weed revenue is just a drop in the bucket. If you want to use legalized to take them down, fine, but you better have a plan to take down ALL their revenue streams at once, or else they'll just keep chugging along.

60% of their revenue comes from weed

Weed is not a drop in the bucket. Hang around someone in the trap and youll see the junkies for the harder stuff are more stable income, but die or get locked up too often to rely on. And they usually end up too broke to afford the good stuff after a while. Most money comes from potsmokers or potsmokers friends who want to get pot. Pot is like a black market commodity. It's common. It's like the black market's Eggs and Milk.

I just don't fucking understand why states can have their own laws and stuff but then the government says no...

The big G can suck a dick... I will smoke weed until I die. I only have one life... ONE! I will do as I please if it harms no of else. illegal<......LOL doesn't matter to me, but it shouldn't be a crime to smoke a fucking plant...

Legalizing is ridiculous to even consider. Firstly, if this does go to congress then you'll most likely find that they'll coerce/threaten/bribe political people who may have a vote in it. The best things you can is tackle the problem at it's force, Columbia.. tell them to start cracking down or you'll loose support.

Why does there have to be an all or nothing approach, why cant they test the affects of legalization of some drugs on crime and dependency, if it doesnt work pull it back.

It's currently all or nothing because the federal government says so. However, states like Colorado and Washington have taken it upon themselves to try the experimentalism that federalism is supposed to promote regardless.

Did crime increase when booze was legalized? What where the crime repercussions of that? Booze is a way more violent of a drug.

Its over , the war is done . Weed will be legal in the united states. Now all that's left is little battles as more and more states legalize it the federal government will have to fall in line. They've already lost

I agree. Its only a matter of time now, but it sucks for those caught in the convulsions of this dying war.

They'll go down kicking and screaming. Given the amount of money involved, it'll be a hard process.

they will see the revenue streams heading to the states and add their own tax to it.

They will then increase fines on other drugs to keep even more money flowing.

I've been marking off the days till Dec. 6th here in WA. If the gub'ment pulls some 11th hour bullshit, they've made themselves an enemy. A very chill, lethargic Xbox-playing enemy.

You guys and your weed paranoia are ridiculous. If I had my way I would ban your towns from getting alcohol and cigs to show the hypocrisy.

Chocolate milk is a gateway drink to alcoholism. FACT. 97% of alcoholics started with chocolate milk as kids and moved on to harder drinks.

Earlier this month, Raymond Yans, the head of the U.N.'s drug watchdog agency, criticized the U.S. for sending "a wrong message abroad" with its passage of the landmark legalization in Colorado and Washington, and urged the U.S. to challenge both states.

Shut the fuck up Yans.
