HITMAN |OT| Blood Monthly

I feel like this has been discussed before, but is the scripting in The Icon just...super buggy? I've definitely been slinking around the stairwell of the clock tower and gotten messages that a non-target has been killed.

Sometimes one of the NPCs on the set will walk too close to the flamethrower robot and catch on fire.

What's the best way to level-up to 20 in each stage after doing the story a few ways and an escalation?

I'm working my way through these levels and am not sure if I should focus on getting all opportunities in the story, doing more escalations, or a different mode entirely.

You can get to 20 without touching Escalations.

Of course, that means doing everything in the main missions. Loading up in different locations is a quick thing to net you Mastery points, but specific assassinations is where it's at.

You can still have stuff leftover and be able to hit 20, so don't feel it's a 100% go through of the level.

Optimization is kind of a work in progress right now, but the older levels are further along. Bangkok is still pretty awkward out in front of the hotel for me.

Lives life on the edge, he does.

Actually when I managed to get close enough to check, it turned out to be a woman.

Of course I couldn't get too close because 47 still gets blamed for this. I guess it's karmic?

Actually just pulled it off (with only about a second to spare before nearly getting caught), but feel free!

What's supposed to happen is that
he goes to sit down at the meet-and-greet booth - which lets you poison him or blow up the gas lamp.

I never considered the Seasons launching from the same menu. That would actually be smart. It would go rather well with their design of making the game work as "bricks" to a house. This is how they designed the levels and menus, and may even apply to merging and linking the Seasons. It would allow the players to carry over content to the sequel Seasons, but I figure either a save file from the previous Season, or simply having all prior unlocks enabled for the new one, would have the same effect.

Yeah, but I'm lazy and I'd prefer to just have access to everything from a single menu. Of course, I guess this would confuse potential new buyers as to what they actually have to buy. IO would have to really clarify things on digital storefronts, because some people are still confused by the messaging to this day, so that will be a much bigger problem with a second and third season out there.

It may have drawbacks, however. For example, it would potentially hinder them regarding the engine, which is what apparently has made the sniper case and dual weapons difficult (the game puts core assets only in the right hand, meaning the case is held no different than a fire extinguisher, so this gets complicated with frisking and melee). Any changes they've made to the game under the hood have affected the whole game, so there's more interest in making content to stabilize that system, as opposed to making something new and different for a standalone title.

Yeah, I've read that before. Not sure dual weapons are really important anymore, given how much better the shooting is nowadays. Personally, I'd sacrifice dual wielding if it enabled us to access everything from a single menu.

But having said that, I'm assuming that improvements will be built off of the same engine, so if they are going to retool the engine, will it be that much more inconvenient to also apply those fixes to the existing season 1 install? I probably should clarify that I know nothing about game development, but from my armchair, it seems like a case of six and half a dozen. Personally, I'd just be happy with a few bug fixes and faster loading on consoles. Oh. And timed events too. My biggest disappointment with this game is how certain events don't happen until you show up. Offline would be cool too, but I know that's not going to happen for a while. Hopefully after season 3 and it's live content finishes.

As for the briefcase,
I read a new post on hitmanforum yesterday saying that people had found it in the files. And it was different from the briefcase found in the alpha files, so fingers crossed IO can work it in there. Maybe you just have to place it somewhere before you get the "open" prompt.

I actually hope that Season 2 has new mechanics that necessitate it being a new base game. As in, the new mechanics shake things up so much that they would break the Season 1 levels.

There are some counterintuitive mechanics right now that deserve a rethinking, and there are new mechanics people want that would not work in the current levels. Just look at the sedative discussion from a few pages back.

(Actually, some players just found a "use" for the sedative: bodies knocked out by sedatives don't count as "Body Found" until someone examines the body up close, so you can use sedated bodies to lure far-away people nearby as long as you intend to knock out or kill them.)

Did they optimize this game yet?

I remember on my 670, I had to go to 720p, on all LOW settings just to get SUB 30 fps.

Nope. I'm on two 980 SLI and I still get stuttering every 5 seconds or so when I run and frame drops like crazy when there's a bunch of NPCs around. I haven't seen any performance improvement since I bought it when ep2 came out. I'm assuming they're mainly focused on content now and any performance optimization will come after the final episode comes out.

You can SA/SO by sneaking into the trailer and hiding in the closet. You don't have to use any distractions to get in and out of there.

That reminds me that my SASO run was just
sneaking all the way to the teeth controls and then back out again.

And that was when I learned the hard way that NPCs now turn their heads randomly. It's a fast route, but insanely random.

Doing all the opportunities is useful. It gives you new ways to assassinate the target and they all usually give you 5000xp. Other than that just keep killing them in different ways. There's always 5000xp for managing to complete the Sniper Assassin challenge as well as 5000xp if you kill your targets by drowning, garrote, pistol and poison. You will reach 20 long before you run out of new ways to kill your targets. I've gotten to 20 in all maps without ever doing an escalation.

As others have said, the easiest is to do all the opportunities.

Exactly, there are some of them that can be similar, so you can save the game before doing opportunity 1, do it, reload the game, do no. 2, etc, and continue. You will get all the xp once you finally complete the level.

yeah, also make a separate save right before the mission exit so you can do all kinds of challenges and then finish them all up by loading the save and finishing the mission

I agree completely. Turning the music off improves the atmosphere of the game tenfold and you still get the appropriate location specific music like in a church, playing over a radio, at a party etc.

it's a real bummer, too, considering how great the music was in previous games

Fixed an issue where NPCs would react to running footsteps, while trespassing.

I'm actually curious about this one. On the one hand, the existing behavior makes no sense, where NPCs who hear but don't see you running magically know whether you're trespassing or not.

On the other hand, seems like there is effectively no difference between loud and silent footsteps now. Is this mainly to nerf using loud footsteps as a "free" distraction?

Seems very good for Contracts fans.

Yeah, finally. Now it can be really used:

Contracts Mode - Search
You can now search all Contracts using free-text entry for the title and description of a Contract. The checkmark icon will be shown to indicate which Contracts have already been completed.
The 'Contracts Search' option in the game menu has replaced the 'Latest Contracts' option.

Contracts Mode - Kill Conditions
Kill Conditions have been added to Contracts Mode and can be used by the creator to create more specific Contracts. There are 16 different kill types and 7 different accident kill types that are recognised by the game.
When setting a kill condition, the Contract creator has the ability to enforce the kill methods 'Melee' and 'Thrown Weapon' in combination with a specific item, based on how they played when they created the Contract. This will require that the target is killed with the same item and method that the creator used. The selected kill conditions are part of the overall score objective bonus, and function as optional secondary objectives. Failing to complete any secondary objectives has a massive impact on your score and time bonus. Images have also been added that represent each Kill Condition. These can be viewed in the 'Detailed Target View'.

Contracts Mode - Tags
You can now choose a number of "tags" when searching for Contracts. This will allow you to find Contracts that match specific requirements. These tags cover missions, amount of targets (up to 5) and kill conditions. This will allow players to quickly find Contracts according to their preference. Search results will show the Contracts in order of relevance and show which tags are matched in each Contract.

Contracts Mode - 'Friends' Filter
You can now filter Contracts to only show those created by your friends.

Friends Leaderboards
After completing any Contract (Story Mission, Escalation Contract, Elusive Target, Contracts Mode), you can now compare yourself directly with only your friends, as well as the existing ‘global’ option.

For you.
Leaderboards Reset

The leaderboards for all Story missions, Escalation Contracts and Featured Contracts will be reset. A contributing factor to this reset was the adjustments to the Jaeger 7 Lancer, because some players have been able to achieve higher scores by killing NPC’s through level geometry.
oh come on :(

Lmao sorry Bern :(

It's not even as overpowered as they claim it to be. The only story mission that is visibly faster with jaeger lancer shots is the Bangkok one. Every other mission has faster methods than that, and it usually implies a lot of setting up to be able to do silent assassin, it's not just looking at someone with instinct through a wall and that's it.

I really dislike when they go out of their way to nerf fun options. The whole point of the damn game is giving you lots of options and they seem to be restricting more and more.

Also RIP all my hard-earned scores, 99.9% of which not using Jaeger Lancer :/

It feels like the speedrunners have been waiting for the other shoe to drop for a while, what with all the Lancer runs this last weekend.

Yes, that has been actually a whole movement because IO said they would nerf it on a stream. People started completing as many missions as they could with it. Got some really crazy videos out of it. (and most of them nowhere near the top of the leaderboards, because once again, it takes a lot of setup to be able to it Silent Assassin most of the time.

This nerfing, the nerfing of pistol distractions, of the "buff" to the breaching charges that made them lethal, no longer being able to propell stuff in the air and being able to do stuff like the amazing flying fire extinguisher kills is really a bummer. Especially when IO themselves championed flying fire extinguisher kills has "something really creative" that "shows the amazing possibilities of our sandbox"

Meanwhile they keep on letting actual game harming bugs unfixed like people being able to see you though walls every now and then.

contracts mode keeps getting better, but it's still not there
absolution had a rating feature, right?

also, only 6 opportunities for 4 targets seems a bit low
I still think this level looks great, though

See the interview this morning where apparently they thought it was impossible to poison The Sensation? http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...lorado-episode-refreshes-old-toilet-mechanics

Meanwhile a bunch of people here thought that was intended to be the only clean solution. You get the sense that the people in charge of the mechanics genuinely don't know about a lot of things you can do in levels until long after release, for whatever reason.

What
The
Fuck

How in hell were you supposed to do it in Silent Assassin otherwise. The only way is a extremely lucky and well placed duck that destroys one of the gas lamps and manages to kill only the target, or instead you had to subdue 20 people around corners before being able to get the target alone. The target had basically no naturally ocurring opportunities whatsoever. Even the laptop that blared the music was useless.

Yeah, what the hell is that shit; There was no other reasonable way to get him alone. I get the impression that the devs are playing cat & mouse with the players, trying to create a mission that is impossible to SASO, then being shocked and amazed when people pull it off in record time.

Some of these ETs were made early in development.

The Sensation had to be one of them. He was part of review copies people got for the Intro Pack, IIRC.

he drinks out of a glass and you can poison it
you can't poison all of the glasses in a level, so they have to make that possible on purpose

no way they didn't know, they are just talking bs

I think the mistake they made was assuming players would speedrun to the party to see he takes only one drink.

Most ETs have a pattern you can exploit. The Sensation is perhaps the only one where the pattern to SA is a one-try attempt, and missing it requires a restart.

there's at least one place you can get the sensation alone: if you trigger a lockdown he'll run up the stairs of the belltower to his saferoom. By himself.

I snapped his neck and ran

/edit wait I'm thinking of the Icon. Yeah the Sensation suuuuuucked

? How are you doing this? When I trigger a lockdown on The Icon guards will escort him to the storage room. When in the storage room I can trigger a further lockdown in which they will go to the safe room further up. But always with the guards escorting.

I completed all the fortune teller challenges last night.

You know, I think Marrakesh gets a bad rap. Prior to doing the fortune teller stuff, I hated it because of how hectic and maze-like it is. The first time I did the mission I just sniped both targets and got the hell out of there. But now that I know my way around it, it's actually quite an enjoyable experience.

are the Fortune Teller challenges as annoying as Vampire Magician?
I never did most of Vampire Magician simply because of how annoying it was to get the costume and get out to get to what you needed to do.

The issue for the Fortune Teller is time to get it.

Aside from the time that it takes to get the fortune teller disguise without becoming compromised, you need custom contracts to do two of the challenges. The good thing is that there are tons of them on the server.

Doing the main mission with fortune teller, saber only is not too bad, and once you do that you might as well do the others.
