Another great failure of an ET for me

first I tried for about 2 hours to get the usb stick, I started with the guard outfit, took out the cameras, got the master key, shot the fire alarm inside the security room and got that done

after that I practiced the kill, started as staff in the basement and got it pretty much done by subduing her in her room. sometimes the captain would come in, sometimes he would be late. didn't really matter I stashed enough fire extuingishers in her bathroom to lure him over and throw them at him. I got that down.

so the serious run starts. I start as staff, run up to the penthouse, disable surveillance, get a few fire extinguishers and wait in her appartment. the captin is nowhere near her so no problem. I throw the extinguisher at her, pull her in the bathroom, no problem. everything according to plan.
I don't kill her, yet if anything goes wrong. I know from practice that no one ever enters her bathroom so nobody will detect her there.

I get over to the security room, I can't use the direct route because the annoying manger is standing there. no problem I am a professional I can adapt, so I take the detour outside. Almost get spotted by another staffer, she already has that weird white dot with a border around her head, but I think I am fine, I proceed.

I can't get the master card that easily because the staff in that room sees through my disguise, that wasn't a problem as a guard but ok, I can adapt, I am a pro. I can blend in a bit and take the card without getting spotted, cool.

I enter the security room and shoot the fire alarm as practised, I am sweating by now. the guards look around everywhere but I can move around them, back to the safe and they leave, cool. After the last one leaves I check if anyone is nearby, wait a bit, open the safe and take the usb stick. Everything is full of white dots outside the room. I can't restart after this, I am nervous.

Ok, apparently because of the fire alarm someone entered her bathroom and found her, FUCK, can't restart, SA gone, fuck this shit. I run out and don't give a fuck, some spot me and I just run to the hotels other wing, they don't follow me.

In front of the penthouse are soldiers and more soldiers are pouring out, they all have white dots. I wait next to the door and they all run past me. I feel like a dead man. I go back up to her bedroom and she is still there, with only one guard. I shoot both in the head and leave. The alarm is over and the white dots disappear, I can leave.

Still not winter suit for me.

I was disguised as hotel security, pulled the fire alarm, everyone ran out of the security room but one guard, I went in and opened the safe with the key and there was no exclamation mark or anything, the militia dude even turned around and watched me as I grabbed the key and didn't react in any way

maybe the fire alarm somehow changed it?

Okay, now I get it.

The problem here is that there can never be a warning sign on an "Unlock" prompt, because you still have to choose whether to use a key/lockpick/crowbar/keycard/scrambler. Some of those might be illegal and others not, so the game doesn't know ahead of time whether the unlocking action will be an illegal action.

I'm sure lots of people (like me) saw no warning on the "Unlock" prompt for the safe and then selected the safe key without noticing the warning at the bottom of the screen when you scroll to the key. If we get more situations like this that subvert your expectations (where using a key is illegal), I would like to see IO put a bigger warning icon by the item image as you scroll through the unlocking options.

Yeah, if you can't hide a body properly, never count on it staying out of sight if you set off an alarm later.

If you have to do both, just always set off the alarm first and then make the bodies.

The illegal action warning for the safe (being on the key, not the safe itself) and the guards outside the penthouse suite for the ET should be tweaked in the future.

If all unlock options for a door/safe are illegal, the "open" prompt should have a warning symbol on it. I don't mind how opening the safe is always an illegal action here because it makes sense (perhaps only the target can open it), but there isn't much to tip off the player that this one safe operates differently than any other in the game. I noticed, but still. Something similar to how frisking works would be better.

The two guards outside the penthouse seem broken. They immediately become hostile and give virtually no warning or indication that you can't come in.

I booted this up for the first time in maybe 3 months to try the bonus missions and immediately I noticed the framerate was horrible in The Icon (like ~20-25fps). To check if it was just that stage I booted up Bangkok and Paris and both of them which used to run at near 60fps with dips in crowded areas (AA off, 1080p) now were running like <30fps with v-sync off.

Maybe I need to update my display drivers or something. Also I run SLI in case they somehow messed that up or something. Dunno, but I'll mess around with it another day because don't have the time right now. I mean it's not normal that somewhere along the way they cut performance in half, right?

It's kind of hilarious that opening the safe with a key is suspicious, but
openly sticking a breaching charge on the safe and then blowing it open, with security guards watching the whole thing
is fine :p

Thank you guys for the tip on the safe. That was definitely the way to do it!

This ET was super tense and had a ton of close calls for me. I practiced the security room a few times so I was mostly good on that, but man killing the ET was nuts.
I got a soldier outfit on the outside, by luring one into a staff house. Took that up to the penthouse (distracted the front guards with coins so I could get in via the side room). That penthouse was really tough with all the other soldiers, was almost caught a ton of times. I just tried to keep an eye on where the ET was going and not get caught. She eventually went into a room alone and I used a poison syringe on her. Also deleted the evidence in that corner room in the penthouse. Almost got caught trying to go out that side room, some important soldier and his escorts happened to be walking in at the same time. Finally got out after a few more minutes of cat and mouse.

In the end I got the SA though! That was my 5th,time to rock that winter suit! Still loving this game 40 hours later. Haven't even touched hokkaido yet but I'm about to fix that right now

After completing professional SA/SO on all maps I decided it was time to stop giving a shit about SA and go full terminator while working towards the other challenges. I forgot that the Sniper Assassin challenges still require almost all of the SA conditions. So I tried Sniper Assassin on Colorado and I just can't figure out how to do it. Guards in the game have always had this magic sense of exactly where you fired a sniper rifle from and in professional difficulty they just swarm the water tower and it becomes impossible to get away from there.

It is because sniper rifles are currently broken. This is not the intended behavior when using a silenced sniper rifle. The AI currently treats it the same way as a loud sniper rifle and that's why guards get alerted and know the position based on where the gunshot came from (still not very realistic mind you).

I would wait until it gets patched. Probably with the game update they announced for February.

I'm pretty sure guards have always homed in on your sniper nest ever since Paris was released. It kind of makes sense because they are supposed to be professionals, they can obviously tell roughly which way the bullet came from, and there are only a few high vantage points in each level?

All of that would be logical even with a silenced rifle.

I just did this, and the sniping part is actually mostly the same on normal. On both normal and professional you have to snipe all four targets in rapid succession, get a disguise, and get away before the (unavoidably) alerted guards get too close and surround you.

Here's how I did it:
- As soon as you start, throw The Big One so that it lands on the far corner of the roof under you, wait for the two far guards to turn towards it, knock out the third guard directly under you with a baton, slide down the ladder, hide his body, take his clothes, then climb back up.
- Shoot the targets in the following order:
1. Parvati when she walks into view in the barn.
2. Berg when he comes up the basement stairs.
3. Graves when she comes out the front door - this is the toughest shot. Alternatively, wait until Berg and Graves are both talking and then get them both.
4. Rose when he's giving his speech at the demolition range.

If you fail to get anybody in a single shot, or if you take too long between targets, an alarm will go off and other targets may go into lockdown.

Then you just leave. The hard part is getting an Elite Militia disguise because soon the alarm will go off. The guy in Berg's shed is the safest to get, but even then you want to wait until all the alarms (there may be more than one) stop because enforcers will be swarming the farmhouse. Make sure to get the basement key from where Berg fell.

Do you think that'll get fixed? It's been like that since the very first episode was released.

EDIT: beaten

I just got this game from last ps sale. What setting should I set the opportunity feature. Just played Paris, and I think opportunity made it too easy to get silent assassin rank.

I play a level I never played before with it set to minimal. You still get an idea of what to do but the game doesn't show you set locations for items, disguises etc.

Then on replays I just disable them when working on the other challenges.

i'm trying to get mastery rank 20 on each destination in the order of easiest to hardest.

so far i've done paris and bangkok. what destination would you guys suggest i do next? the stuff with shooting down silvio caruso's plane on sapienza seems really tough, as does the 'reveal yourself as 47' thing on hokkaido. not really sure where to go at this point, but i'm at least level 10 on all the remaining stages.

^ Welcome back!

It was always this way? Lol what the hell I certainly don't remember that.

The loud sniper rifle is different because it draws nearby guards to you as well. The silenced ones give you time to get away before the alerted guards arrive (unless you shoot someone too close by).

Since you're at level 10, get to Colorado level 15 for the disposable scrambler before you do anything else. All the other levels become much faster with these.
Next, Hokkaido level 20 - it's a compact level, all the challenges are fun, and the Sieger 300 takes a huge load off doing Sniper Assassin for the other levels. "Reveal yourself as 47" will definitely get you spotted, unless you
pull the fire alarm first.
Next, finish up Sapienza - there are so many challenges that you can leave off a bunch of hard ones (just figure out the quickest way to destroy the virus). Colorado is similar, but it gets slower the higher level you get as the challenges run thin.
Leave Marrakesh for last. Every run for the challenges requires a lot of running around between locations, plus a lot of waiting. It's going to be the slowest level to max out.

I failed the new illusive target because I was dressed as a security member, the guards at the target's suite said hey to me casually, and as I started to walk in they opened fire pretty much immediately.

This game REALLY needs a 'restricted zone' marker on the map, like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, so you know where you costume doesn't let you go.

The way the AI greeted me didn't indicate I wasn't allowed in, at all.

Decided to leave my Sniper Assassin run of Colorado until I can unlock the water tower starting position. I feel like you need the perfect window of being able to shoot all targets within 20-30 seconds or else the guards will overrun you.

Also GuLe uploaded a speedrun of Bangkok where he gets SA rating after shooting two guards in the leg before exiting the level. Second time in a week where he's done something that should definitely break SA but it doesn't. I don't understand the SA rules anymore :|

Oh, yeah, I assumed you were starting at the water tower. It's the only way to time everything predictably.

Simply put, you only lose SA if you get spotted, get a noticed kill, get a body found, get recorded, or kill a non-target. Shooting an NPC without killing is none of those things, as long as you weren't seen doing it.

The guards need to get up to be able to spot him, but he exits before they do stand up.

I feel like the problem with this article and others like it is the criticism or discussion within them kind of gets addressed the more you play and/or how intently you play. For example, Silvio Caruso is clearly designed to make you feel bad for killing him, but you may never experience that if you only just poisoned him, shot him in the head, did the
explosive golfball
, etc.. You may never have caught any of his backstory if you didn't read his bio or listened into NPC conversations, or are quick to kill Caruso before his lengthy scripted speeches. I don't know if the author of the article plays like that, but I'm surprised they didn't bring Caruso up if their favorite map is Sapienza. I'm obviously not going to argue he's not a bad dude, but he's not designed as a typical villainous baddie served on a plate to you. Same goes with Penelope Graves although she's not as detailed, and there's also targets like Dino Bosco or Matthew Mendola who I'd argue aren't even truly bad people, or at least we don't know them to be.

It's subtle and easily missable, but there's definitely some morally gray stuff in Hitman and potential to feel bad for certain assassinations. The targets aren't "always sacred".

Crazy, so "crime noticed" doesn't effect SA? I had no idea.

Some cool stuff got found in Landslide recently that this thread missed.

The balloon easter egg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5lbMBdiGK8

Also, the surgeon (the guy in a brown suit with blue tie) turns out to be carrying the only Modern Sedative Syringe in the game. (So you know that could have been an unlock, but the developers clearly knew nobody would be happy about it)

Oh good god this elusive target really messed with my head. It's only my second one.

I was probing the level, trying to learn paths and timing and what outfits could get me where... I eventually found myself up in the Warlord's room, but my run was already in bad shape. I'd compromised a few disguises and had no idea where the safe was. But I was in her room, and she strolled out all alone, and I panicked and momentarily forgot the rules of elusive target missions, and I just killed her. Suddenly realized I was in a horrible situation with few ways out... Ended up having to blast my way through multiple guards, do some tricky maneuvers to get to a safer part of the level, and ultimately found that - as luck would have it - that the hotel security outfit was still ok for me to wear. I eventually discovered the safe, set off a fire extinguisher outside the room causing a bunch of them to run out, grabbed the contents and RAN my ass to the exit. I can't believe I actually pulled that off... heart racing the entire time because I was absolutely certain I'd completely screwed my chances. Whew, this game is flippin' fantastic.

An airport level would be amazing. Would be great to take out the target(s) before they get on the plane, or get on the plane and do it there.

Remote charge in the cockpit to see the plane crash shortly after take-off, killing all 300 on-board?

Yes please.
