Hogwarts Legacy Has Generated $1 Billion in Retail Sales

Funny how people suddenly love Ubisoft style game design when it's Harry Potter.
Or when ubisoft makes them and they sell millions of copies

And Phil says that console says don't matter. WTH is wrong with him?

$150 million in 3 months! That's crazy!
Probably more than that wording says retail, since like 80% plus of retail copies sold were probably sold on ps5, digital is a separate pool, sonys probably brought in like 250 million from Hogwarts, which is bananas

Enjoying it right now. I had to restart since I’ve discovered I despise everything about house Gryffindor and those filthy Weasleys. Combat isn’t bad but feels a little off.

"Yikes, y'all."

So much for that boycott. Really did some damage there (to themselves).
That sub is an absolute circus.

Here's the thing though:

Do not comment on that sub unless you're absolutely 100% certain you're going to say something positive/that the sub agrees with, otherwise you will get banned.

I always go on that sub to laugh at some of the shittiest takes in gaming history and just, honestly, enjoy the charade. It really is a circus. There's plenty of clownery there.
Everything I see of that subreddit is embarrassing. r/gamingcirclejerk is what happens when people get too comfortable making fun of a (nebulous, in this case) group online and don't realize how far they've gone up their own asses and become just as, if not more mock-worthy and annoying than their original targets were.

If you believe in God, pray for our nation. This is (and has been) something else.

Saw another activist threaten to kill anyone who tries to control which bathroom they go to. Others have been making threats after Audrey Hale as well.

Hope there is no more violence.

And with 0 game development costs or risks!

Sony can easily fund 1 massive AAA game with this money or 2-3 Returnal or Horizon Zero Dawn type projects.
Valve made just as much through Steam and they don't even have any exclusives to fund, shareholders to please or consoles to subsidise.

It all goes down the black-hole that is Gaben's belly.

They even have an army of morons that will boycott and trash any digital store that isn't Steam.

That‘s more than any of the movies ever did. Impressive.

That's a huge amount of money but I still think it was mismanaged.

They could have made Hogwarts Legacy: Year 1, and so on, for 7 years. Given the insane quality of the Hogwarts school they've created, they could have sustained that with the content they have here. Slap a persona-esque school system over your core game design and go from there.

Instead, you're given free reign of Hogwarts right away (it's amazing but overwhelming) and then most of the game takes place in bland open world fields doing bland open-world things. The school itself feels almost wasted as it is. You take like 5 classes in total, lol. The rest of the time you're out brutally murdering poachers (um... proportionality?) and "rescuing" beasts (read: poaching).

The art, music, and general game design here could have supported a ton of games had they not spunked it all on a third-rate open world game design.

I agree, premise and structure of the game don’t quite match. The lack of classes has always been an issue with HP games, unfortunately. It seems no one is able or willing to come up with an interesting Hogwarts curriculum to provide content for more than just a handful of classes.

The real issue with Ubisofts game design is not the design mechanically. People love it, they can't get enough of it when other people make it. The diffrence is that Ubisoft rip out everything that should be an award to the player for doing side objectives or side quests and put it on a premium ingame shop instead for real money. This means you don't feel as rewarded when playing as other games, because Ubisoft have designed the game to push you towards the cooler stuff that they sell for real money.

Hogwarts didn't do that, hence the relatively high praise.

Quite the ironic example considering the reward for doing these side objectives on Breath of the Wild is a weapon that breaks in 3 hits. I'd honestly prefer to just pay Ubisoft money for a permanent sword or gun.

I mean personally I think Breath of the Wild is over rated empty waste of the Zelda name. But I wanted to show an example to the extreme that this phenomenon is not exclusive to just "Hogwarts" which is believe the applied intent of the comment I was responding to.

I could of also used Horizon, God of War or Tsushima but I think Ubisoft of the Wild really hits home because people won't STFU about how it's the game of the generation (yeah the Wii U maybe) despite essentially being an Ubisoft game with the physics gun from Half-Life doing all the work.

Hogwarts does something right that is praise worthy in today's modern day AAA games, its a full game that released working and without horrific MTX.

I honestly think this is the main reason for its popularity, its refreshing to see something connected to such a large franchise be released without much to complain about. If Jedi Suvivor had been released in a similair state no doubt it would have also received similair praise. It sounds funny, but a game that would he found to be medicore at best 5 years ago is now a rarity just because it works and does not feel predatory.

I haven't played Immortal, but I think I need to give it a shot because your not the first person to say this to me. At least then I can fully understand the point of comparison, I mean it can't be much worse than an empty world with the same enemies over and over, where the main mecanic is your weapons break that gets 10/10 because it has a gravity gun and the grass burns like its Farcry 2.

At first they were funny. They made fun of online forum babies. Then they became super authoritarian and started banning any one from their sub reddit who was also a member of the hogwarts legacy sub reddit
Oh, how unexpected from reddit moderators.

Rowling hoping and praying mentally ill cretins stage another boycott when the sequel gets announced so it can be skyrocketed to success again

Said it before and I'll say it again, a fake outrage snuffed all the greatness of this game in the public eye. I can't believe a game that generated a billion fucking dollars isn't even being talked about in the gaming public like it should!

I'm not even into Harry Potter, you can find a few post of mine saying it's a sign of arrested development to be obsessed over a damn children's book, but I ate my words when I actually played it.

I hope it gets a sequel, it was a great first outing and I think if they have the balls it'll be a massive upgrade!

Oh you should've been around during COVID. I took it seriously but like a lot of people, got burned out over the tragedy porn aspect. Joined a circle jerk to make fun of the news and people and received like 15 bans from subreddits I wasn't even part of. That sites nuts in general, great for hardware talk and hobbies (cars, monitors, diy, gardening) but I can't be assed to do anything else.

More like, no amount of money anyone makes can compare to surrending to God. No amount of human rights violations will ever be justified against naturally occurring human experiences based on millions of years of evolution whether it's straight or lgbt.

I hope these last single player hits like RE4, GoWR, ER and HWL send a clear message to publishers/devs.
or that high-quality licensed games make bank? or are they more likely to go, why'd we ever stop making licensed games to begin with? We can churn out garbage and make a fortune!!!!11121e42hq3ruoehvaeousrhgvuigezsbrfiugvb
