Frankly a bit stunned by the hype surrounding this game.

I bounced off the first one, so can't say I see anything all that different with the second instalment.

It's more of the same, but better. If you liked Hollow Knight, you will like this. If you didn't like the OG, you won't like this

A lot of people grew to love HK over the last eight years, and the game never quite got its flowers when it originally released (the original reviews were pretty sparse and low, and it only got one nomination at that year's TGA), so Silksong is just representing a pent up release of sorts

even with its issues it's impossible not to recommend it, considering they could've priced at even 60 euros and ppl would've still bought it. Fuck 80 euro trash gaming. Bring back <50 euro prices bitches.

I read some of the user reviews on steam and in general, and people are trolling with the reviews/scores. If u just read a couple of them then you'll see what i mean.

Makes sense.

The art-style just isn't my thing I suppose, because I on the face of it I should like the game. But I seem to recall after spending a minimum amount of time with the original I just kinda forgot about it.

No one can give a meaningful review of the game before a very long time. The game has a frankly ridiculous amount of content, and given how challenging it is I doubt most journos will even reach the basic ending. Any review releasing in the next week is essentially worthless.

Don't underestimate how many people have taken it upon themselves to play the game day and night and do nothing else other than eat and sleep and play Silksong for the last four days. That's a not-so-small group of people.

It's good. It's very good. But it's not at all without its flaws.

These scores are a bit of wankery for sure.

I'm playing it on Switch and it's been ok. Nothing bad. I would still rank most DS Castlevania games as more rewarding. I hit a bug 3 times until it dies and I'm traveling in a forest. I've got similar vibes with the Ori games. I know people with Hollow Knight tattoos. Whatever floats their boat.

It'll probably ultimately end up in the low 90s, but that's still damn good.

I'm really enjoying it. I feel like the challenge/reward cycle is a little less satisfying than the original Hollow Knight (which was basically perfect in that regard), but the controls are incredibly tight and everything feels intuitive and precise; plus it's gorgeous and has some of the best sound design in a game ever. All of the bug voices are eerie and oddly beautiful and even simple sounds, like the noise rosary beads make as they roll around, are incredibly satisfying.

Clair Obscur getting some competition this year
Not even close. Claire is a masterpiece. My second favorite RPG, only after FFX.

This is not even close. If this wins over Clair, then fuck this cooked industry. it's a good game. but its not more than 8 out of 10. I don't give a shit what kids on steam say. It's am amazing game for its price as a solid game. But not close to expedition 33 IMO.

I loved hollow Knight in 2017 but I found Silksong boring. I was expecting greatly improved combat and something equivalent to the different weapon types dark souls 1 provides. Instead the game places you in the same spot HK1 did where all you have is a basic slash (no combos) and a downward diagonal thrust...

Obviously you get more stuff (special moves and tools) as you progress but everything seems similar to HK1s limitations. I just expected the devs to flesh the combat out significantly like From has in their games (remember how das3 added weapon techniques to a move set that was drastically more in depth than HK1s), instead it's the same stuff but now with more levels, enemies and bosses. Felt lazy in the combat department.

Listen, I'm absolutely loving Silksong. It's genuinely incredible, even with its flaws. It's got some of the best level and mechanical design in a 2D action game.

But expedition 33 made me like—no, love—a "J"RPG. A genre I generally fucking hate. That game is something truly special, and nothing has topped it for my GOTY. Even Donkey Kong, which is crazy, because my favorite games ever are Nintendo 3D platformers.

E33 is just on another level. It's the first JRPG since Earthbound that actually respects your time. The pacing and content density is absolutely unmatched.

But even you can admit Silksong deserves a nomination.

Clair Obscure, Silksong will be two of the 6 nominees. Other four, one might go to Ghost of Yotei and another to Donkey Kong. I would love for Ninja Gaiden 4 to be good enough to get a nom. Metroid 4 Prime maybe if it releases before awards cutoff deadline.

I don't see Yotei winning anything with the average-looking game and the same formula of the old one with just newer weapons. Almost feels like a budget AAA game. The first one had more hype. to me anyway. But I think the sales of this one will be poor, and Sony will not greenlight a third game for a while ( again, just IMO based on videos I have seen so far).

Maybe they will give it the best action game of the year just so Sony doesn't cry and give Jeff more trailers.

Donkey Kong is fun. I have it. But I honestly don't see it winning stuff outside of some nomination like best 3d platformer.

Game of the Year is 100% locked to E33. Silksong will win something like "indie game of the year award" if such an award exists. But nothing is touching E33.

To be honest, I was not hyped about the game. I didn't even care much about it when I saw the reveal trailer.

Only when my friend didn't shut up about it, I gave it a try and glad I did. Been more than 10 years since I fell in love with a game this much if not more.

Oh Clair will very likely win but 6 games still have to be nominated.

Usually one Sony game is nominated every year, so Ghost of Yotei or Death Stranding 2.

And when Nintendo releases their big games, they often get nominated. This year is Donkey Kong or possibly Metroid Prime 4.

Assassin's Creed Shadows or Battlefield 6 may get nominations. If not, I see Oblivion getting one possibly.

Oh I didn't know that. I kinda don't pay attention to anything but trailers, and at the end when they are about to reveal game of the year.

Thanks

Hollow Knight phenomenon is so weird, its almost like a cult. I bet those reviewers knew the backlash they'd get from dropping even a point so played it safe.

I played the original due to the Silksong hype and its an ok game, lovely art and sound, but honestly I got bored, only fun I had was rescuing the grubs. I reached crystal peak and havent been back to it.

Edit: just want to say kudos to Team Cherry they could of easily exploited the fan base and charged double, so props to them for the price they set.

hmmm

I like it, but having beaten HK to 95% or so, I'm not sure how I feel about this one.

It's good. Is it better? I dunno. Some of it pisses me off more than HK did, but that could be just adjusting.
