Homefront |OT| of The Greater Goliath Republic

Just finished watching--looks like a good time. But man, as a PC player, watching gameplay on a controller is utterly frustrating. Why the hell was he trying to take out a drone with a rocket launcher?

Is there any sort of squad spawn system in Homefront? I know you can create squads...but I'm curious about spawning. You CAN spawn as gunner in a team vehicle, but didn't see anything about squads.

Isn't multiplayer the primary focus of this game? I mean the genre is a Battlefield type game correct?

People are taking the "plot" way too seriously I think.

I felt that way too. Then found out it gets far far worse

Most of the games PR has been about the plot.

I agree. I watched some multiplayer footage and it really does look like a 5 year old game. That's not a complaint though, I still play Counter-Strike: Source to this day and am perfectly fine with the graphics. We're just very used to seeing FPS be one of the few genres that always seems to try to push the graphical envelope, and Homefront is not trying to do that at all.

I don't really get the graphics complaints, the game looks at least as good as Black Ops.

He's probably serious. It looks like COD with bigger maps and vehicles. Maybe it's the HUD or font or something else, but I got that vibe last night looking at it.

I haven't tried multiplayer yet ... but I'm getting a CoD/Battlefield hybrid vibe from that video. The maps definately feel Battlefieldish, while the shooting mechanics are straight CoD.

I suspect the multiplayer will feel alot like Frontlines Fuel of War. This is a good thing.

For those of you that missed out on Frontlines ... some of the best map designs I've seen this gen in terms of layout and balance.

So it looks as good as one of the worst looking AAA titles in the past year?

Still haven't had an answer -
why was the woman shot?

It's actually a mother AND father that are put up against the wall and shot. In front of their kid who then runs sobbing into their dead arms. No reason given why they were executed although it appears some sort of crackdown is happening at the start of the game.

Screw it, I'll sell KZ3 and try this out since I enjoyed the MP a lot early on. Though I still hate the story, I do think the idea of it being North Korea that invades is interesting in a way just because the world knows so little about them (besides it being a shithole of course). They're a very mysterious country and are one of the few countries that would really handle the invasion this way even though it's still pretty much impossible. But they definitely would be very brutal as they were all brainwashed into despising America their whole lives.

Like I said earlier in the thread, the story isn't going to stop me from enjoying it but I didn't like how they kept bragging about the story as if it's possible. You keep telling people this story is plausible over and over again so of course there will be some discussions on it. But that's not going to stop me from enjoying it.

But to those who say it's just a video game story, I'd agree if they didn't keep hammering the idea that this is plausible. If IW said the same thing about MW2, then there would be debates about that as well. But story is a big part of gaming for me as it adds to the immersion. I'm not going to see a movie with a shitty story just because it has good action scenes afterall. I'm not saying it's the same thing with gaming but it's not something that should be overlooked for no reason. Believe me, I laughed the whole time while playing MW2 and thought the SP was terrible so I'm not picking and choosing which stories to hate on.

I hope the PC community is large enough to last for a while. The only reason I'm selling KZ3 is because I'm tired of the matchmaking putting me into a room with only 4 people in it all night even with a large fanbase. :D

I know I was kind of damning it with faint praise there, but IMO the enviroments, textures and animation don't look any worse than the COD games (if you take into account it's a youtube video)

It doesn't push the envelope but it doesn't really look dated either.

Well, COD environments aren't exactly among the upper crust when it comes to detail, and the animations don't seem to be in the same league. And, of course, COD at least aims at a higher framerate.

'Way below the Metacritic average'? I presume they're talking about DA2 in that case, seeing as HF has no reviews up.

EDIT: Yes they are. And God forbid someone with a different opinion not like the game.

thats a shame, but to be honest I can't think of a media outlet that I value less. Despite being the most in your face about using the full 10 scale, I can't think of a more inconsistent review resource. Good articles but poor reviews who are written by half assed journalists who work for Future Publication and get recycled across all their publications. Do not for a second think these guys are somehow gaming gurus and bastions of integrity and expertise, they're just writers.

Does raise some concerns though. Clearly the game won't be for everyone. But EDGE gave Dragon Age Origins a 5 and to me thats the best story driven RPG arguably of all time.

I mean...that game is fucking fantastic why did it get such a deserving score?! It boggles the mind.

Why are people downplaying the plausibility of the story in this game, i actually find it quite refreshing and its a definite change of pace from the usual Russia vs America (with america always being the good guy). People do not realize that Americas fall doesn't mean an invasion and frankly no army is large enough to invade the USA right now, but America is filled with a bunch of lazy people (not generalizing, please don't ban me), the country depends too much on other people's blood and sweat yet they don't recognize those people; (FACT- 63 percent of Americans aged 18 to 24 cant locate Iraq or Sudan in a map. "Young Americans just don't seem to have much interest in the world outside of the U.S.," said David Rutherford, a specialist in geography education at the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C) If china cut their shipments to the United States the economy will tank, if Saudi Arabia or Nigeria cease their oil(gas) shipment to the US the economy will also tank. America needs to start working and developing their own products because in the case of a major war with any of the above countries they (America) will surely fall, and besides no major world power lasts for long. The last world power that lasted for a considerable amount of time was Egypt.

Not sure if it is just me thinking this, but Kaos seems to want to set the bar for MP really high. On paper everything sounds awesome - hopefully they aren't paper champs.

How's it go... Unfortunately they don't play these games on paper, they play them inside our TVs and PC monitors :)

Watched a bit of someone streaming the single player tonight. Looked pretty good. Of course the chat room was filled with trollistic banter, but hey, sign me up. I'm not buying this for the SP anyway.

All versions of Homefront will have dedicated servers.

Really now. Do you not have any understanding international economics and politics. Any sort of trading sanctions between the US and any of it's major trading partners would have a dire effect on both states. Clearly you have no understanding of power politics since you state Egypt was the last major power to last a considerable time.

How is stating that Americans are lazy not a generalization? How does knowledge of locating Iraq or Sudan have to do with anything you said?

The entire notion of a united militaristic Korea presented in the game is unfathomable. Why would the unification of Korea have such a result? South Korea is political and economically stronger and has the support of the western world. Looking at the reunification of Germany, it makes no sense.

However, its a game. The story doesnt have to be plausible.

I heard that they didn't even look at multi. Is that true? That 5 is for the SP only.

Considering the mulitiplayer servers weren't up until yesterday for journalists I'm guessing any mp impressions in their review was based on the new York muliplayer preview event of the game which happened months ago.

Got to play 3 hours of ground control yesterday. I really enjoyed it .... The maps are fantastic in terms of design. Any of you that enjoyed fontlines are going to love this.

I just checked the PSN Store and in it there's a Homefront code, this allows you to go past rank 5 online so if you buy the game second hand you will not be able to get past rank 5 unless you buy this code

Ps. It comes with all new copies of the game.

So if you don't want to lose your resale value of this game, I wouldn't buy it.

How long were you planning on renting it for >_>...
