Quinn is the only compelling character left... How did they manage to screw up this show so badly after that amazing first season?

Shit, I thought I was in the Dexter thread for a moment... :p

I agree, Quinn has slowly become the voice of reason. I wouldn't be surprised to see Saul fuck him over, too.

Fucking Saul.

How about Carrie has been misdiagnosed and actually has MPD and one of her identities is the mole.

I believe the more modern term for that is DID, Dissociative Identity Disorder, but yeah that was one of the reigning theories for who the mole was back in season one.

That shit Saul said to the lady was so completely out of character, absolute bs. The excuse/explanation that he's under a lot of pressure is nonsense. The show is trying to portray him becoming Estes I guess but the whole point of last season I thought was that Saul wasn't that guy. He was in Carrie's shoes and knows better than anyone what that wrath feels like. He should be showing much deeper moral frailty than the guy we're seeing now.

Quinn of all people seems to be the only one in that inner circle with doubts at the CIA and he was one of the worst offenders last season. Don't know why the show is changing characters personalities so flippantly.

I've always liked Dana's character, never thought people's hate towards her was justified. She was better in Season 1 but so was everything else. Hopefully we get a decent update on Brody in the next ep.

I'm also glad that the show is doing pretty good at explaining why entities like the CIA and NSA should be abolished, although that may not be their intent.

But I think the show seemed to strongly suggest last season that yes, Carrie's meds did compromise her analytical abilities significantly. And I'm not saying that's not a real issue with meds for mental illness, but I think when the show has previously shown Carrie to be extremely competent while medicated, it's a bit harder for me to accept.
I can't remember any details from last season where we were supposed to really believe her medication was making her slip up. I've forgotten a lot of last season, but do you remember anything specific?

Honestly, I guess the real point is that I find the show's portrayal of mental illness to be - as is the case with many aspects of this show - increasingly caricatured.

I'd agree with that.

I think it was something like this:

What the show wanted the audience to see: "My psychiatric medication is preventing me from being 100% on my game. I MISS things. That is a grave conflict for me because I'm a perfectionist and brilliant CIA operative."

What the audience actually saw: "OMG I LOVE BRODY SO MUCH! BRODYYYYY!!!!! Wait...other things are happening?"

Saul is going to be a traitor. The twist is that he's actually working for Israel, and is influencing and pulling strings of the U.S. intelligence in favor of them.

That scene was straight-up racist. This was the writers and director pushing a xenophobic message. Probably the first time in the show's run so far.

I'm disappointed.

err, did you forget Carrie's "Danny's the mole...he's a Muslim after all" last year? :lol

You may say this jokingly but that's exactly what that scene seemed like. It was just bizarre. Saul was always portrayed as the cultured, tolerant, open minded guy who understood the world wasn't like the U.S. Then out of nowhere he becomes one of the callers on Howard Stern during 9/11.

oMg dana, omg stop talking omg omg stop it. you sound like a crazy person. As soon as Leo leaves her or whatever, Dana is a gonner.

are we supposed to feel bad for carrie?

cause i just find her really annoying at this point

totally insufferable

between that and the dana shit.. fuck this show

Saul getting into a fit about her wearing a hijab. Jesus.

this was also completely ridiculous and out of character

This. I couldn't believe this is the Saul Berensen we've known. There is no way I buy that his character would flip out like that. He's a secular Jewish liberal, who married an Indian woman. All of sudden, this guy has an issue with racism?

It doesn't fit his profile whatsoever. More plausibly, I could see an underling, some hothead say it, and Saul comes on in and diffuses things.

Leo's going to revenge porn her or whatever they're calling releasing nudes your ex-girlfriend sent you now, and then she'll /wrists again, followed by her winding up in the nuthouse next to Carrie, who will then strike up a friendship with her.

This show is pole vaulting the shark right now. The stuff with Quinn and the banker. Come on lol. That just can't happen cos the banker has connections all the way to the top.

Still enjoyable but the quality is way down from S1

I loved this episode. I thought the scenes with Quinn were great, and Dana's scenes were handled incredibly well.

Seriously, I thought the interactions between Dana and her mom toward the end of the episode were handled extremely well, and realistically for the situation they're both in.

I don't think we're supposed to feel sorry for Carrie directly - I feel sorry for her having a terrible illness that has the symptoms of making her think she's fine, but I don't feel sorry for her because of what Saul and others did and said.

Saul being a mole is the only way his recent actions make sense to me, character-wise.

Plus, the show broke itself long ago, now I just want spectacle and thrills.

Agreed.

At this point, I'd actually prefer the show to morph into a less stylized 24.

It's a decent espionage thriller suffocating underneath all of this overwrought character drama.

to be honest, this is what i expected from the beginning and wish it was like that throughout.

brody better freaken star in it...

the first 2 episodes, the ads alluded that he would, yet no show..

Hopefully he shows up and they focus on him being the terrorist all along.
I am getting sick of the Dana, I want her out of the show!

Also no more love life between brody and Carrie, that shit is just so sad and bad its ruining the show

Not really. I might just be full of shit and/or imagining things on this one. :lol

The Bankers connections is the whole reason Quinn makes the move he does.

Saul already commented he had 30 senators calling telling him to back off. Quinn accidently killed the kid and is done with the game so to speak so he has nothing to lose to remind a banker that even with all his friends there are people who can get to him just like his banker buddy overseas got taken out.

If anythng Quinn used his mistake in killing the kid as leverage. He makes it clear to the banker hey that guys kid got taken out your kid aint so safe.

Quinn has been, by far, the more interesting character in this season. I just hope they focus the show on Brody, Carrie, Saul, Quinn and Dira Adal, just drop the whole Brody family plot

At the end of last season, Brody goes on the run. Were you nervous that the Brody family might be done?

We had no clue if we were coming back. We really had no idea. Actually, in January at the Golden Globe Awards, the whole Homeland group, we all met back up. The writers actually told me and Morena [Baccarin] — because we, of course, were being nosy and trying to get the scoop — they actually said, “Plan on not working this year. Plan on not being here.” That was about a week before they started writing, so I guess something changed. It came as a surprise to not only be on the show but to have a lot to do. I graduated high school in May, being a normal kid, not thinking about Homeland. It’s all been a nice surprise.

THANKS SHOWTIME!

This show isn't bad. It is just preposterous what certain characters are doing/acting. I'm okay with the Dana stuff, lovely actress and I hope that the writers are leading her someplace great.

I don't disagree with this, but why we do have a Lifetime after school special in the middle of our spy/terrorist/national security TV show?

At the end of the day, I just don't care about the Brodys, and the writers are dedicating a ton of time to them.

Yep. Officially done with this show.
Like this?

I don't really mind the Dana stuff to be honest. And I'm probably overthinking it, but the fact they haven't shown Brody at all yet shows restraint and gives me faith in the direction they're taking. I'm probably wrong about that though.

I keep forgetting about 'the mole'.

Has it been ruled out that Brody slipped that one guy a razor (or whatever it was)? Other than Brody or Saul, whom else could be a candidate?

Of course they're going to bring fucking Brody back. The dude is alive and we're still stuck watching Brody's dull-as-bricks family.

I don't understand this mole thing. It seemed obvious Brody slipped him the razor. Why are people looking for other explanations?

Gordon and Gansa have brought it up a few times. EW interview after the S2 finale.
"Posit this: The investigators are going to believe Brody was possibly in that car … if Brody was in his car, there’s a very good chance there would be absolutely nothing left of him,” Gansa says. “We also have our ever-present mole who could have been responsible for moving the car. Those are the possibilities that are running around in our head.”
It's unclear if they're joking around with fan expectations or have any idea what they're doing.

Because I don't remember every detail. Which is why I asked. ;)

I didn't question whether Brody was coming back or not - not sure how someone got that idea from my post. I was referring specifically to the mole.
