Horizon: Call Of The Mountain (PSVR2) to be featured at the State of Play Tomorrow

Let's do this. The first teaser had some sick water physics. Hoping that wasn't canned for cutscenes and this is a true next Gen title.

In my opinion the difference between the PSVR2 being a Day One buy and being something I just consider buying is whether or not PSVR1 games are backwards compatible with it. I want to finally play RE7 and Ace Combat 7 in VR.

This is a game that needs to land well if PSVR2 is going to have a decent launch.

We can't keep looking to Alyx as the best example of VR. It has to be superseded, and very soon, if VR is to be a long term success.

Well with those games, they don't have specific VR versions. They are simply ways to play (and in AC7, only 3 missions essentially). For titles like that I'd love to see updates for PSVR2 support along with enhancements.

Well you did ask if it was a true next gen title. If it's cross gen it will be available on PS4 with PSVR1.
It's a VR title so it will be limited by what it can or cannot do due to the need to have it run at 120 fps. if its just HFW in VR then we will know, but the enhanced water physics give me hope that they will be pushing next gen tech for more than just 120 fps.

An entire thread for this tweet?

lol

If it isn't available on PS4 it will take advantage of the PS5s hardware and PSVR2. VR takes a lot of juice so I'm definitely not expecting it to be on par with non VR titles.

I agree, but it doesn't have to happen at launch.

Eh. I kinda feel like it does.

The momentum around VR has slowed to a crawl, because there have been so few full length AAA games. The industry cannot rely on short experiences or Beat Saber to keep it going. PSVR2 has to launch with at least a couple of big, showcase, full length titles, to show it's a viable platform for proper gaming.

Something like Horizon, Alyx and GT7 VR would do it, I suppose. But it must have big titles at launch, to start some momentum again in the market.

It does not need to be anywhere near 120fps. 90fps is more than fine. 60fps with proper reprojection is good.

I feel you, but nothing ever has to happen at launch. But I do agree with you, that those games need to be out within the first year. The first year of PSVR2 will be SUPER important.

Eh? OR2 sold 10 million units last year. I really think the importance of AAA games to push VR is kind of overstated because I don't think OR2 had that many of such games (especially new/original releases) and it still did a lot in sales the previous year.

Just make the games fun, inventive, clever and reasonably good-looking enough. It's really price points for headsets that are going to help drive adoption rates higher, sooner. BUT, AAA games built for VR are still important, because a lot of learning experience and tech can come from that which trickles down to smaller releases. So it can help elevate quality and scope of all games in time.

I think looking at my own play habits with 6 months of VR access tells me that this isn't true. Most people really are going to be playing VR for 30 min or so. I don't think most people are going to be looking for long, AAA VR experiences. The bulk of users will be gravitating towards pick up and play, short titles with immediate gameplay and less story. And I think almost everyone will be viewing VR as a supplement to their normal gaming, and won't be rushing out to buy $70 VR titles. Even $40 titles tend to slow in sales.

Graphics are neat and all, but VR is closer to an arcade experience in my opinion, and thrives on AA pricing.

Or to spend hours touching boobies in VR Chat. I've literally seen a streamer do that.

Hopefully gameplay this time, I'm curious to see how this actually plays in VR. Close encounters with the machines in VR sounds intriguing.

It's a chicken and egg situation but I think there is a shorter session limit that's just inherent to vr.
AR might be longer

Astro Bot 2 is all they need.

Astro Bot is the best game on PSVR, and most say it's a top 3 VR game all time.

The Mario 64 moment for VR, critical acclaim, etc.

That game was made in about 2 years (2016-18), and Asobi's last game was about 2 years ago, so..

There is one existing PS game that I'd love to play in VR and that's Death Stranding. I think it would make the game super immersive. Never going to happen, but a man can dream.

I am looking forward to seeing it. But a few weeks ago I started looking at people playing vr chat and I have developed a morbid fascination. Maybe it's for the best that it's not on psvr...

PSVR2 must be PS5 only. Although I loved my time with PSVR I want it untethered from past generations like the ps3 move controls.

If Horizon VR is day 1, so am I

Why not? It has "big VR showcase" written all over it, so I am not complaining...But one thing holds true still: It is impossible to properly convey the VR experience via a trailer.

Agreed. That will (Would?) be a great killer app.

Also, RE 8 would be a big one for me, as I adore 7 in VR, and own the game already.

They could sell an awful lot of PSVR2s just with VR versions of existing games

Why would AR be longer? There are literally no products on the market that AR has made successful on any level. I'm confused as to why people think the "real" product of the future is AR and not VR.

Because humans like to be able to access the real world from time to time even if it in 'micro-sessions' like looking a phone etc.

But wouldn't a VR headset with AR capabilities be best? Than just an AR headset?
