Horizon: Call Of The Mountain (PSVR2) to be featured at the State of Play Tomorrow

Some people are really hyping up this event. Keep your expectations low. State of Play is wack.

Wait for PlayStation Showcase.

I'm curious so see the game in VR tho.

But wouldn't a VR headset with AR capabilities be best? Than just an AR headset?
You can have different devices that goes both ways, I suspect the winning format if they can get the 'display' tech right will be a AR headset that can be used for VR purposes rather than a VR headset that has good camera passthrough for AR purposes.

Cambria is getting there on the latter front with color passthrough.

You talking about for gaming? Or just in general?

IMHO: I think they're probably always going to be different devices. VR will be the immersion device. AR will be very light weight and casual, for utility focused stuff like work, working out, maps, google search, pictures / video record.

AR gaming is going to be limited to augmenting things you can do in reality, like workout info, displaying speed when biking, etc. Pokemon GO search games. Board games. Mario Kart remote control car thing without the car. They could do some Astrobot / Little Big Planet stuff in the real world where he platforms around your furniture lol. Not sure what else. Football with the first down lines on the ground (but who would want to risk breaking it while playing football).

If there's anything that will convince me to buy more plastic shit to clutter my space is this game. I really, really enjoyed Forbidden West.

I think for mass consumption of gaming/vr movies, there will be one type of device eventually if they can get the tech right however that seems to be a larger problem that some companies initially anticipated.

I think you might have different display types for other uses on either end of the spectrum aka vr vs ar.

Agreed. That will (Would?) be a great killer app.

Also, RE 8 would be a big one for me, as I adore 7 in VR, and own the game already.

They could sell an awful lot of PSVR2s just with VR versions of existing games
They need Half Life 2 VR. I dont care if they have to send Jim Ryan down there to blow Gabe himself. It must be there on day one.

I also want the RE4 port they did for Oculus Rift.

But yes, first party is where its at, and I hope Horizon and Astrobot arent the only VR titles from Sony. i want them to go all out this time around.

GT7 will probably be pretty sick if they can get that working with the steering wheel, and just run the game as is on PS5.

Eh? OR2 sold 10 million units last year. I really think the importance of AAA games to push VR is kind of overstated because I don't think OR2 had that many of such games (especially new/original releases) and it still did a lot in sales the previous year.

Just make the games fun, inventive, clever and reasonably good-looking enough. It's really price points for headsets that are going to help drive adoption rates higher, sooner. BUT, AAA games built for VR are still important, because a lot of learning experience and tech can come from that which trickles down to smaller releases. So it can help elevate quality and scope of all games in time.

Quest 2, you mean?

I really hope this can be used on PC too. Then it will be an instant buy.

It has a single USB C cable. Even if there is no support from Sony on day one, it won't be long before someone has it running on their PC. I'm guessing within a few days.

I think people are going to be surprised how powerful the PSVR 2 is and even more surprised how much it will cost.

This is not a Quest 2. This will be a high-end headset. I'm expecting between $500 and $600.

Here's hoping. If this thing can do PSVR1 backwards compatibility and work on PC via SteamVR, plus of course has the native PSVR2 software, it will be the ultimate all in one VR solution for me.

Sony has managed to surprise on pricepoints before. Rift S was 399 and pretty good for the time. That has some form of subsidy from a big company that stood to profit from software sales on their own store. Quest is 299 and is establishing itself as a sort of baseline for vr by virtue of it's success. I'm betting on 399, for now.

There is one existing PS game that I'd love to play in VR and that's Death Stranding. I think it would make the game super immersive. Never going to happen, but a man can dream.
How would you do it in third person? Aren't most vr first person?

In my opinion the difference between the PSVR2 being a Day One buy and being something I just consider buying is whether or not PSVR1 games are backwards compatible with it. I want to finally play RE7 and Ace Combat 7 in VR.
I strongly doubt this will be the case as the entire tracking system of PSVR1 is camera/light based (even specifically going so far as to require dualshock 4 to play) PSVR2 appears to be changing EVERYTHING about tracking and controls in that regard.

Astro Bot 2 is all they need.

Astro Bot is the best game on PSVR, and most say it's a top 3 VR game all time.

The Mario 64 moment for VR, critical acclaim, etc.

That game was made in about 2 years (2016-18), and Asobi's last game was about 2 years ago, so..
Let's not get carried away, it got a 90 metacritic. That's 7 points off Mario Odyssey nevermind the goat Mario 64 :P

you have completely missed the point

Astro Bot Rescue Mission does for VR what Mario 64 did for 3D

If those Mario 64 moments cemented the power of jumping from 2D to 3D with the Nintendo 64, then the PlayStation 4's PSVR exclusive, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, does the same for virtual reality. Running and jumping will never be the same again – well, assuming VR eventually becomes as widespread as it deserves to be.

I don't have VR and probably can't afford it either, but still very excited for it. For VR, I want beautiful colorful world to immerse myself into, instead of military or post-apoc hellhole. With horrifying but beautiful monsters and such, great vistas...

They will likely be the VR Gaming market leader again if this happens. I think Sony will support it eventually, and maybe already on day one.

Because humans like to be able to access the real world from time to time even if it in 'micro-sessions' like looking a phone etc.

Quest 2 has pass-through cameras to allow this.

Conversely, if you're gaming, you want to be immersed in the game. Not see the shitty real world persistently in the background.

They aren't great camera's and they are still black and white, they are obviously becoming colour ones in Cambria
