Horizon: Zero Dawn Trailer (Guerrilla, post-apocalyptic pre-historic adventure)

Can't believe the dinosaurs roam around the world dynamically battling other tribes, and keeping the damage they take on lol. In the behind the closed door demo, apparently the Thunderjaw they came across was already at half health, and had arrows etc stuck in it from a previous dynamic battle with some other random tribe. Very cool. Also cool the way you can goad the smaller dinosaurs in to your traps, and that they have mini alpha males that defend the herd etc.

just checking in..gonna need to check the archive later. That is indeed very cool.

I wonder if there's underwater dinos at some point..would blow my mind!

this is from gametrailers?

Reflecting after a few days, and yes, this is easily game of the show.

They revealed this perfectly. Great intro trailer that's completely in-game with a fantastic musical score that segues into real time gameplay that just astonished people. I know I was in disbelief when they took control of the character that it was actually real.

And then they show a fantastic vertical slice of gameplay that showcases deeply thought-out core mechanics. This is the best that the core gameplay of a Guerrilla Games title has ever looked and combines many elements from some of my favorite games of all time. Everything looked extremely polished.

This is a total dream game for me and easily my most anticipated game now.

If this game is successful, they should make a monster-hunter multiplayer MMO type game in the next sequel.

Imagine clans from different factions (like WoW) warring against each other and trying to bring down mecha-dinosaurs as a team? Would be sick.

WAIT WHAT? THEY HAVE PERSISTENT DAMAGE BASED ON EMERGENT EVENTS?

Not really in to my MMO's. Would prefer they stick to SP RPG's. Though I wouldn't exactly say no to a multiplayer mode of some kind exploring what you've discussed.

Summary from the Gametrailers talk:

- Saw a live demo played in front of them (no hands-on). Same demo as the trailer.
- They set up a trip wire, went around it and attacked one of the deer things from the opposite side making some run into it.
- A few stayed around to fight her while the rest ran away.
- They talked a lot about there being an economy that you can trade resources in or use yourself.
- Multiple arrow types. Explosive arrows are really rare.
- Thunderjaw was at half health from fighting a different tribe.
- It has 15 different types of attacks.
- If you're far away from it, it'll stay back and attack with ranged attacks.
- They used 4 or 5 electric arrows to prevent Thunderjaw from moving.
- Showed concept art of a few different things. One of them was a town (that I think Huber said reminded him of FFXII towns) that had robotic dogs that seem to be domesticated like normal ones.
- Showed concept art of a cyborg gryphon.
- You can upgrade Aloy's skills. Multiple layers of equipment you can wear.
- 30 FPS

Edit: Added a few things I missed.

HOLY FUCK

This is amazing.

Yeah that was a stunning talk about Horizon. Loved all of it but when he said the Thunderjaw was at half health due to a dynamic encounter with another tribe who knows when with spears still stuck in its body .... Holy fuck that was MIND BLOWING

Also the fact that the Thunderjaw alone has 15 attacks it uses against you. Man, that's like Diablos with 10 more attacks to worry about and respond to.

Amazing. Simply amazing

Yeah just imagine you are out on your daily hunt and headed into some woods or something and bam you just happen across a full on battle containing a Thunderjaw and multiple members of another tribe. You can just sit back and watch it unfold and maybe take out a much weakened Thunderjaw if it wins or help out the tribe or whatever. Man that is just awesome.

He also stated the city in the concept art gave off Final Fantasy 12 vibes and there is a huge economy system in the game that the devs were super excited about

I hope it's truely dynamic, the whole Eco system and all. I just fear those are some scripted event.
Just too good to be true, this game, like a dream game.

The possibilities for this game are amazing to think about. So many interesting mechanics they can toy around with in an open world RPG setting.

Glad they're focusing fully on SP and can make it an epic and engrossing adventure. Wouldn't be surprised to see MMO/Co-op type stuff possibly get added to future versions, but I don't think it's necessary for the first outing. They need to nail down what the game is about and then try and branch out without diluting the quality.

This gen has somewhat been a disappointment in terms of new IP, but this is the first one that I think will be the next big thing to emerge solely from this gen.

They can add an optional mulitiplayer mode like that, but I would not want to be forced into it.

Micahel Huber from GT stating the cities give off a FF12 vibe... don't... do this!

As if I wasn't ALREADY hyped enough about this game he goes and says that!!!

I should also probably state this. Guerrilla, if you see this, you've made a fan out of me for western games, out of someone who generally has not been a fan of them in the past!

Only downer yet then is 30fps. But not like it was any chance in hell this was gonna be 60 xD
Game looks amazing and everything I read seems fantastic. Gah it's gonna be a long wait.

Nope. Nope. Nopity Nope Nope Nope.

Please keep your MMO, out of my single player experience.

So glad that when a dev was asked they apparently responded, "we're making a single player game thank you very much."

This.

That's totally no downer and you seem to realize it, expecting 60fps for this sort of game with graphics like that on the ps4 is simply delusional.

I love how this is a new IP from a developer that seems to get a lot of undeserved crap from around the web has one of the most talked about announcements. This thread has more pages than Uncharted, Halo, Tomb Raider, etc...

Guerrilla looks to really be onto something. I just can't believe how amazing this looks.

I think GG gets a hard time because they are seen as the company that is supposed to go head to head with Halo. Been that way from the jump. So instead of people playing their games and just critiquing them based on their own merits they immediately compare it to Halo and go from there. Along with the haters that sort of competition brings, you then have people over analyzing any potential negative area of each game and perhaps adding in a ton of hyperbole as to make it apparent Killzone cannot compete with Halo.

That's my take on it. GG did a fantastic job with Killzone 2 SP and Killzone 3 MP and Shadowfall had fantastic SP up to chapter 11 when it all fell apart and felt rushed but Shadowfall had AMAZING mp. So yeah the hatred is largely undeserved as many seem to just gloss over the Killzone franchises strengths and focus entirely on any negative. I see it in the media too and reviews. Halo 2 may have a HORRIBLENESS campaign but the MP was awesome so 10/10! Killzone 3 had a horrible campaign but amazing MP but man that SP was so bad 7/10! Titanfall may of had the worst campaign ever written but it had fun MP so 10/10! Shadowfall had a lousy last 1/3rd but great MP but still 7/10!

It's a weird narrative with their games

Hype.

sooo sooo cool looking.

My only concern about the game right now is exactly what kind of RPG elements there will really be, but otherwise it looks very cool. This is the kind of post-apocalyptic world I want to see. No zombie nonsense, or ugly worlds, it's become something totally alien and beautiful instead.

fairly run of the mill probably, loot, crafting, quests.

Horizon Zero Dawn is even better than the mind-blowing trailer made you think

Some info here. Damn seeing this get so much praise makes me so happy for GG.

This part in particular sounds so awesome!

The Thundermaul comprises 93 separate elements, each with their own hit points and effects. You’re not just shooting it any which way to grind down its health, but instead where you hit really matters, making the battle much more tactically interesting. For instance, Aloy used one of her explosive arrows to knock off the disc-launcher from the beast’s back, which she the picked up to use against it, knocking off its protective armor plating. By hitting the sensitive “muscles” peeking between the creature’s armor, Aloy can deal three times as much damage.

All these impressions make me want this game now. Although regarding the crafting, I would really hope there is some sort of TLOU type of crafting system were it actually requires some time and 'physical' action. The write up didn't make it exactly clear this wasn't the case, although it seems to suggest it's a magic instant process.

Yup I think you nailed it. Around the time Shadow Fall came out, my friend - who is sorta a causal gamer - asked me what game I was playing and I told him Killzone and he immediately said "isn't that just a copycat of Halo". I think everyone kept seeing Killzone through Halo lenses.

Didn't think I could be any more hyped but this sounds fucking awesome. Gonna be a long wait

This might not be the right thread, but anyone still have that list from Verendus where he specifically said that Sony is developing an open world game with Indian culture? :p

"The Thundermaul comprises 93 separate elements, each with their own hit points and effects. You’re not just shooting it any which way to grind down its health, but instead where you hit really matters, "

Now I get it how the combat works. At first I was a bit wary because it didn't look like the machine didn't have HP, and it seems really easy to kill him in the demo. But after reading this, now I can somehow imagine how the combat in final game will work. Basically you had to hit the same specific spot/element multiple time to even reveal the weakpoint. And we as player are totally free to experiment which spot we want to focus our attack to.

With 15 different attack, I imagine dodging enemies attack would be a challenge on it's own already. Combine that with needing to focus on attacking the same spot again and again, or setting traps and luring them to the trap. I can now see a battle can be very long, tense and challenging affair.

I also imagine different spot will give different loot. So you may want to change up your strategy if you had a specific loot you want to get. Damn I'm so hyped for this game.

Even though the three mega announcements were great (made it the best e3 ever) it's Horizon which intrigues me and excites me the most.
Just can't beat a new IP and the world they've created looks brilliant to explore.

I fell in love with it.

Was incredible.

I wouldn't mind COOP in this somehow. But as a bonus just to play with friends in this big world, not taking spotlight from single player.
