I don't know if I've desensitized myself by watching four a week or something, but I haven't really seen any movies that are actually scary. There are some good creepy ones, or "thrillers"...but nothing that really is scary. Is anyone else the same way?

Futhermore, what would be the scariest movie you'd like to see made? Is there anything that's been lacking so far that you really want to see in a film, or that you think would scare the crap out of you?

A movie where, the guy that runs around killing everybody pulls out his knife, and maliciously stabs the woman that brought her kids to see the movie.

You, my friend, have not seen Attack of the Giant Leeches. I only say that because I'm watching it right now and laughing way too hard for it to be 6AM.

I always think its great when someone comes up with the profound revelation that horror movies aren't scary. Yay, you're not a 15 year old girl! I don't even think the medium is capable of scaring, imo the closest they can get is disturbing, like scenes from Henry or a Miike movie. I consider it an accomplishment if a movie can even pull off creepy.

Getting really creeped out works just fine for me, thanks. That's about as much as you can ask from horror cinema, I think.

I can't remember the last movie that actually scared me. Definately prefer getting spooked to being grossed out. A little gore is ok...a lot=pass.

I saw The Shining the other day and it has made me feel uncomfortable being alone at night. The way the kid keeps saying "redrum, redrum..." just *bothers* me.
The Blair Witch Project has made me scared to be alone in the woods. Still. Six years later!

Horror movies wont scare ya when you grow up hehe. Its all about the bump and atmosphere. Music is huge like for instance Halloween has a great soundtrack. Another component is just how fucked up is the story like the original Texas Chainsaw massacare. After that its all about suspense and the unexpected. Alot of horror movies use dramatic irony way too much, way too many scenes building up to ultimately gore you know is fake. But there are the few who get it right like the final 10 min of halloween, surprisingly the Remake of TCM had alot of scenes that were just out of no where even though the raping of the story sucked. What really makes them good is the thrill ride, and the paranoid feeling it gives when its all done, the scenes that get ya jumping like in The Thing, or the fucked up feeling you get after watching the Shinning.

Have you seen The Exorcist? Scares the heck out of me, can't even watch it by myself. But it's more of a make-you-reevaluate-your-religious-convictions kind of scary.

The Shining is very scary too, in more of psychological way. My sister said the Blair Witch Project wasn't scary at all, so I didn't expect much, but it scared the heck out of me too. I guess people have differing levels of what scares them

Slashers don't scare me at all, except in the involuntary way, ie. oh shit, there's a loud noise and my body will jump no matter what caused it.

I tend not to watch many horror movies because I find most suck hard, but I've found a few that I really love and can creep me out. Chief among those are Alien and The Thing. Those are two films that I think go a long way to creating a real sense of terror. I'm not sure about any others really. I liked Dark Water a lot...

Donald Sutherland? I'll be checking that out.

Exorcist didn't really scaaare me. The Blair Witch Project, however.....yeah, that scared me some, I confess. Most likely because it was 'different', at the time.

I remember reading somewhere that some people have stronger reactions on a chemical level to being scared than others, hence some folks 'like' it more. My google-fu isn't strong enough to find any data, however. ;(

I have to agree here. Movies= not scary. ANd It pisses me off when a horror flick tries to thorw in comedy.

Games on the other hand, like Silent Hill, still scare the crap outta me to this day. Why can't movies be like that? Maybe its the fact that games are much more interactive in a way.

I agree with the original poster.

Horror movies don't do anything for me at all... how can someone be scared by a movie? I just don't get the appeal. They seem to be so formulaic to me, you've seen one you've seen them all.
