The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Yesterday I finally did a full inventory while watching football... obviously since the Ravens were doing so bad I was able to do the inventory only looking up at the TV occasionally.

Final Count:
387 movies, comprised mostly of action movies & scifi... a smattering of comedy, some animated, small # of horror, a decent amount of asian flicks as well.

125 sets (134 titles), with a couple more on order and on the way. I recently started up a Netflix account so I've been buying less. I'm trying to just buy the ones that I know I'll be rewatching a few times or that I'll definitely want to own for the future. That said, by the end of the month I'll probably be well past 140.

As of last count 385 and still going.....

Our DVD rack is starting to double back alphabetically. The vault continues to grow.....

Honestly, those with over 100 DVDs I have to ask, do you really watch them all more than once? Yesterday there was a big sale at a store and I almost picked up around 6 movies for myself at killer prices, but then I asked myself "would I really see these films more than even once?" I ended up saving myself some good money.

Good Lord. You guys have a shit-ton of DVDs. I have around 15.

Yeah, ditto here. I think I've got around 10-15 single DVDs, plus around seven TV boxsets (Five of which are Babylon 5).

I guess I don't want to blow the money on buying a movie I know I won't want to repeatedly watch.

No, why would I do that? Watch all the movies in my collection, who the hell has time for that? ;) I've got DVD's still in plastic I haven't watched, I've got DVD's of movies I've enjoyed in the theater that I just say, yeah I'd like to own that DVD just in case I want to watch it again at some point. Just like my games backlog I have a DVD backlog, but it's comforting to us to know that we can go down to our family room, dim the lights, fire up the large screen TV and surround sound and whatever mood we are in, we've got a movie for it.

Most likely I will, and I'd say at least half my stuff has been viewed several times already. Besides, film is basically my life now and my life in the future, so I very much appreciate having a lot films on hand whenever I want to glance at something. Of course, a lot of special features, commentaries, etc are great too.

If it's something I'm not sure about or something I'll likely only watch once and not want to own, then I'll Netflix it.

The basic version of DVDprofiler is free. link

I just set up my collection with it last week, in fact. You can pay $29.95 for the "pro" version (which I did), that does stuff like remove ads and adds cool features like the "upcoming titles" feature. Very very comprehensive app.

My favorite feature is the one that lets you shop for disks on your wish list. For each title, it displays the current prices at a bunch of online retailers, and you can just click to go to the order page. This screenshot (the window in the upper right) shows that feature.

You can add disks by doing a title search, entering (or scanning) the UPC code, or inserting the disk into your computer's DVD drive and it'll auto detect it. I found that entering the UPC code was the fastest method for adding all of the disks I already own.

I have a bit over 200 titles. I'd have more, but I've been selling some anime and tv series stuff. And I have sold some of my old R1 movies, which I will replace with PAL versions later.

Honestly, yes. We have quite a few that get repeated viewings. Just about anything we go to see in the theatre we buy. And you also have to figure that the DVD collection is split between my wife and I.

You have her sappy chic flicks that I can't stomach mixed in there with all my action and comedies and wrestling DVDs.

We also find ourselves becomeing the "Blockbuster" for our families. We've always got stuff out and about. I need to archive what I got on DVDaficionado or something similar.

BTW, that reminds me... my father-in-law still has my Kill Bill set....

Exactly man... I used to buy them left and right, but lately I've only been going for ones I know I'll watch, like Hero. I'll get Spiderman 2 before too long, as well, and probably The Bourne Supremacy.

I've got roughly 150, and I want to start getting some TV collections like The West Wing, Chapelle, etc.

Yep except for a couple of stupid blind buys I didnt care for I usually watch a movie a couple times within the first week I buy it.

Off hand I'd say I have somewhere around 300 DVDs, and a huge backlog. Reasons--

I'm a sucker for the $5.99 bin at Best Buy--after all, $5.99 isn't much more than you'd pay to rent. I just picked up Darkman, Casualties of War, and The Big Lebowski in that bin.

Also, there are some things I like to buy on DVD because buying them helps ensure that more films like those will be available on shelves. The Criterion Collection and Kino on Video have been getting a lot of my money lately.

TV on DVD is nice because it's commercial-free and I can watch entire seasons over a week if I want. It's nice to have boxes like the Emma Peel Avengers box or the Prisoner box, and just watch an episode or two whenever I want.

These days I rarely ever buy mainstream movies on DVD, though, unless they're super-cheap.

I think the very worst aspects is the constant re-issues of different editions of films. It's the point that I've become paranoid with every purchase. If I bother to buy a movie on DVD, I want it to be the best version. But then there's that song and dance of "dude, a better version is coming down the pipe" or "get it now before its out of print" and the such.

Yes of course you do watch them more than once, it's relative to who visits, the people in the house etc. There are some movies i haven't watched in ages but i HAVE watched all my movies at least 3 times if not more...there are some that are in the double digits.

I have about 40 movies and about 15 TV box sets. I could probably knock off maybe ten movies and still be happy.

224 now. Soon to be 225 after I go buy Dodgeball tomorrow. All of my dvds are store bought. I know lots of people burn them now. I just can't bring myself to do it. I'd rather have the real cases.

Yes, a couple of times I think. I have a DVD drive on the PC and a PS2 too...But I really don't have interest on DVD...Films I am interested on don't usually get released on DVD here...

Around 30 movies and the entire Futurama set.

I only buy movies I know I will watch more then once. I don't get how some of you are buying hundreds, I am willing to bet those people didn't even watch all of their movies once let alone multiple times.
