I've tried downloading a ton of shareware programs to try and rip a scene from a movie, but I have had ZERO luck.

Every single program sucks hard...the quality is terrible even when I max everything out.

Does anyone know where I can rip certian scenes in pristine DVD quality to AVI/MPG?

Any help is appreciated!

Is it actually impossible? Well, I need as good of quality as I can get...

Do you care how big the files are afterwards? And they have to be AVI?

Use DVD Decrypter to get the chapters you want
Might need to run it through DGIndex (aka DVD2AVI) before
...transcoding with Virtual Dub (use huffyuv codec for lossless video, files will be HUGE)

No, I don't care about the size at all...

What a bizarre way to get footage that should easily be obtainable...seeing as it's RIGHT THERE...argh.

Unless you hack into the DVD production studio and get the original masters, what you want to do is impossible. The DVD only contains the compressed video.

This is a two step process - first you need to rip the video from the disk, the edit out the specific section you want.

Use DVD Decrypter to rip the VOB files off the disk (VOB files are simply DVD format container files for Mpeg2 video/AC3 audio). If you want to rip a scene from a movie then you will need to rip the whole movie (so that'll be the largest VOB file). Then open the VOB file up in TMPG Encoder and File -> Mpeg Tools -> Merge and Cut and simply cut out the specific section you want and save the file as an mpeg file. Since you're just ripping and not compressing anything you will have the exact same quality as the original DVD.
