PS5 Pro: Developers share how they’re using new tech to enhance their games

I don't get people wanting PRO, nor the PRO itself.

Right now, 99% of the games will be games you already played, finished and maybe even platinumed; probably played more than once.

Then, by the time new games come out that truly utilizes and takes advantage of the PRO (If ever), the PS6 will be right around the corner and you'll be able to play those games enhanced and looking/performing even better.

This gen, the PRO is a bad idea, and just a way people are letting Sony SCAM them.
Same reason a sports fan buys season tickets
Same reason one would buy a slightly larger tv
Same reason one would own anime figurines etc...

I found this one even stranger. They presumably mean VRR though.

A 3700x is definitely very limiting in this game. Less intensive parts can drag up the average but it still drops into the 50s during heavy action. This video also includes newer Ryzen chips and the differences are dramatic.

Lets not forget, that PS5 (Pro) does not run 1000+ services which all fights with win scheduler + PS APIs are more efficient than Direct X, which is by design, given how many HW configurations DX has to handle.

No doubt but we'll find out soon enough. I'm just saying that people should keep their expectations in check.

It's harder to speak for the console versions but the PC version needs fast cores rather than many of them. You can see how it's mainly single-thread bound in the bottom graph in this capture while the helper threads are much less utilized.

Seems fine. Wish more games were running 120fps but makes sense with that cpu. These are likely the best cases scenarios they're using to promote it too.

So is the regular PS5 now the Series S for Sony? Is the regular PS5 going to hold back the pro, or is everything going to be developed for the pro and the regular PS5 gets lesser versions...

The PS5/Pro is better balanced for scaling than the S/X. In a sense the PS5/Pro differential is what Xbox should have released with. Almost identical CPU/RAM with a much stronger GPU.

Depending on glass half full/empty you could say the Pro will be held back sure. But its a mid gen upgrade and thats literally the intent, not to mess with the larger install base.

Mind you the only real way the Pro will be held back is that base machine will generally need non RT lighting making it less likely a dev goes all out on a RT only solution for the Pro.
